Player Outlook
Warren enters this season as one of the best backup running backs in the NFL, and he should be considered a high-end flex in the majority of leagues. Warren is worth drafting as early as Round 7 in all formats. He's coming off a solid campaign in 2023 with over 1,000 total yards and four total touchdowns, including 61 receptions on 74 targets. The offense in Pittsburgh should improve this season with the addition of offensive coordinator Arthur Smith and quarterbacks Russell Wilson and Justin Fields. But Warren still has to contend with Najee Harris, who should remain the workhorse for the Steelers when it comes to carrying the ball. Long-term, Warren could be the running back of the future in Pittsburgh since Harris is entering a contract year, and the Steelers appear willing to move on after this season. But in 2024, Harris should continue to lead Pittsburgh in carries, with Warren mixing in and getting plenty of work in the passing game. Warren's value is higher in PPR, but he can still be a high-end flex in all leagues this year.

  • Steelers' Jaylen Warren: Practicing, plans to play Sunday

Warren (hamstring) said that he practiced Monday, Dale Lolley of the Steelers' official site reports. Though the extent of Warren's activity in practice won't be known until the Steelers release their first official injury report of the season Wednesday, Warren said that he'll "be ready by Sunday." Assuming he's available for the team's regular-season opener against the Falcons, Warren will be in line to operate in a timeshare with fellow running back Najee Harris.

  • Steelers' Jaylen Warren: Expects to be ready for Week 1

Warren (hamstring) said Monday he expects to be ready for Pittsburgh's regular-season opener against the Falcons on Sunday, Sept. 8, Brian Batko of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. Warren was limited to light work during the portion of Monday's practice open to the media, per Batko, but he still has nearly two weeks to get fully healthy for Week 1. The third-year pro suffered a hamstring injury during the Steelers' second preseason game, but there doesn't appear to be tangible concern about his regular-season availability. When Warren is back to full health, he seems positioned to operate as a co-starter out of the backfield alongside Najee Harris, as was the case during the 2023 season. Cordarrelle Patterson figures to be the primary beneficiary behind Harris if Warren's injury does linger.

  • Steelers' Jaylen Warren: Injury downplayed by coach

Coach Mike Tomlin noted Tuesday that Warren "is out, probably out for this week," but added that the running back's hamstring issue is "not anything that's a long-term concern," Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com reports. While it's probably safe to assume that Warren won't play in Saturday's preseason finale against the Lions, Tomlin's words Tuesday would appear to bode well with regard to the running back's chances of being available for Week 1 action. Once he's back on the field, Warren will resume working in Pittsburgh's backfield in tandem with Najee Harris, a looming timeshare that should result in both players remaining on the fantasy radar this season.

  • Steelers' Jaylen Warren: Set to miss multiple weeks

Warren (hamstring) is slated to miss multiple weeks, making him uncertain for Week 1 against Atlanta, Grant Gordon of NFL.com reports. Warren suffered the injury during Saturday's preseason game against the Bills. Najee Harris would get more playing time if Warren were to miss regular-season action, with Cordarrelle Patterson potentially taking on a large role off the bench. Harris and Warren have split first-team snaps this preseason, much as they did throughout the 2023 campaign.

  • Steelers' Jaylen Warren: Injures hamstring Saturday

Warren suffered a hamstring injury during Saturday's preseason game against the Bills, Ray Fittipaldo of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. The team officially is listing Warren as doubtful to return, but such a designation should be taken with a grain of salt considering it's exhibition season and not the regular season. Still, the situation should be monitored to get a sense of its impact on Warren, fellow RB Najee Harris and the rest of the Steelers backfield. Warren is on the heels of a 2023 campaign in which he posted 1,154 yards from scrimmage and four rushing touchdowns in 17 regular-season games.

  • Steelers' Jaylen Warren: Three touches to Harris' four

Warren rushed three times for 11 yards and wasn't targeted in Friday's 20-12 preseason loss to the Texans. Warren and Najee Harris, who had 25 yards on four touches, both saw time with the first-team offense in the first quarter. The two running backs were in a timeshare last season and will likely continue to split playing time under new offensive coordinator Arthur Smith. The Steelers' Aug. 17 preseason game against the Bills offers another opportunity for Warren and Harris to familiarize themselves with Smith's scheme.

  • Steelers' Jaylen Warren: Solid numbers in playoff loss

Warren rushed eight times for 38 yards and brought in both targets for 16 yards in the Steelers' 31-17 wild-card loss to the Bills on Monday afternoon. Warren logged just four fewer carries than backfield mate Najee Harris and also matched his teammate's two receptions. Warren enjoyed an expanded role in the 2023 campaign, establishing himself as a legitimate two-way threat out of the backfield with a 149-784-4 line on the ground that he complemented with an impressive 61 receptions and 370 yards on 74 targets while seeing action in all 17 regular-season games. Warren remains under contact for 2024 season at a very reasonable $989,000 cap figure, essentially ensuring he'll be back to compete for another significant role alongside Harris.

  • Steelers' Jaylen Warren: Struggles with ball security

Warren rushed the ball nine times for 33 yards in Saturday's 17-10 win over the Ravens. He added five receptions on five targets for 17 yards and also lost a fumble. The game was played in rainy conditions, which led to some sloppy play. Warren was one of the culprits by fumbling twice, one of which was recovered deep in Baltimore territory. He wasn't benched for any lengthy period of time as a result, but he was far out-touched and out-played by Najee Harris. Despite the disappointing close to the regular season, Warren had a breakout season by tallying 1,154 yards from scrimmage to go along with four total touchdowns.

  • Steelers' Jaylen Warren: Narrowly misses 100 yards

Warren rushed the ball 13 times for 75 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 30-23 win over the Seahawks. He added four receptions on four targets for 23 yards. Warren worked behind Najee Harris and was nearly doubled in total touches, though he was very efficient with his opportunity. His longest gain of the day went for 23 yards, and he also tallied Pittsburgh's first score of the game with an 18-yard scamper late in the first quarter. Warren remained the more impactful pass catcher out of the backfield to further enhance his role, and he now has at least four receptions in four consecutive games. He'll continue to work as the explosive change-of-pace back in Week 18 against the Ravens.

  • Steelers' Jaylen Warren: Contrarian DFS Play

Warren has been in a bit of an efficiency slump the last month, but I love the volume in the passing game. He has 17 targets and 14 catches in his last three games and the Steelers are 3.5-point underdogs at Seattle this week. Warren is one big play from being a steal in DFS each and every week.

  • Steelers' Jaylen Warren: Eight carries, five catches in win

Warren rushed eight times for 24 yards and caught five of six targets for 30 yards in Saturday's 34-11 win over the Bengals. Najee Harris worked as Pittsburgh's primary option on the ground, rushing 19 times for 78 yards and a touchdown, but Warren caught five passes for a second consecutive game while Harris went without a target Saturday. Warren has reached 50 rushing yards only five times in 15 games, but his steady involvement as a pass catcher gives Warren a respectable PPR floor for a Week 17 matchup with the Seahawks.

  • Steelers' Jaylen Warren: Paces Steelers in scrimmage yards

Warren rushed the ball 10 times for 40 yards in Saturday's 30-13 loss to the Colts. He added five receptions on six targets for 28 yards. Warren led the Pittsburgh backfield with 15 touches and led the team in scrimmage yards. While that says more about the state of the Steelers' offense than Warren's production, he did manage a pair of gains of more than 10 yards. He's had both inconsistent usage and production much of the season, though he now has at least five targets in consecutive games and should remain the lead pass catcher out of the backfield while splitting carries with Najee Harris moving forward.

  • Steelers' Jaylen Warren: Compiles 40 total yards in loss

Warren rushed seven times for 11 yards and secured four of five targets for 29 yards in the Steelers' 21-18 loss to the Patriots on Thursday night. Warren turned in his most inefficient game of the season on the ground, although his receiving yardage total was his highest since Week 5. The second-year pro logged five fewer carries than backfield mate Najee Harris overall, and although he was more involved than the latter in the passing game, Warren figures to remain in a complementary role in a Week 15 road matchup against the Colts a week from Saturday.

  • Steelers' Jaylen Warren: Efficient on limited chances

Warren rushed the ball nine times for 59 yards in Sunday's 24-10 loss to the Cardinals. Warren saw his workload diminish to its lowest mark since Week 8. He was still efficient on the ground, with his longest gain of the day going for 18 yards. More concerning was Warren's lack of involvement as a pass catcher, as he failed to record multiple receptions for just the second time this season. After briefly challenging for the lead-back role in Pittsburgh, he seems to have firmly slipped behind Najee Harris on the depth chart and will likely be reliant upon big plays for his production.

  • Steelers' Jaylen Warren: Sleeper RBs

Najee Harris is my Start of the Week for Week 13, but I like Warren as a No. 2 running back in all leagues as well. Both should have success against the Cardinals, who are No. 2 in most Fantasy points allowed to opposing running backs, and a running back has scored at least 12.7 PPR points against Arizona in every game this season. Warren scored at least 14.3 PPR points in three of his past four games, and Warren and Harris should both excel in Week 13. Last week, we saw two Rams running backs score at least 13.7 PPR points against the Cardinals with Kyren Williams and Royce Freeman, and hopefully Harris and Warren will follow suit.

  • Steelers' Jaylen Warren: Steps back against Cincy

Warren rushed the ball 13 times for 49 yards in Sunday's 16-10 win over the Bengals. He added three receptions on three targets for 13 yards. Warren lost a fumble early in the game, though he wasn't benched as a result. He nearly matched Najee Harris in workload on the ground and was more involved as pass catcher, though unlike how things have panned out much of the season, Harris bested him in terms of efficiency. Despite the average performance, the Steelers have been committed to splitting the backfield between Harris and Warren, and that's likely to be the case once again in Week 13 against Arizona.

  • Steelers' Jaylen Warren: Sleeper RBs

I'm curious to see how the Steelers offense looks with coordinator Matt Canada fired, and now quarterbacks coach Mike Sullivan will be calling plays. Warren will likely continue to split work with Najee Harris, and both are worth using as at least flex options against the Bengals in Week 12. But I'll give Warren the nod over Harris if you have to decide between the two, and Warren is hot coming into this matchup. He has over 100 total yards in three games in a row, and he's rushed for a touchdown in each of the past two games. He's scored at least 14.3 PPR points in each game over that span, and the Bengals have allowed a running back to score at least 17.9 PPR points in four of the past five games.

  • Steelers' Jaylen Warren: Top playmaker in Pittsburgh

Warren rushed the ball nine times for 129 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 13-10 loss to the Browns. He added three receptions for 13 yards. Warren was the lone bright spot of the Pittsburgh offense, as he accounted for the team's only touchdown with a 74-yard rush early in the second half. He had other big gains of 11, nine and eight yards, and on the rare occasion the Steelers were able to move the ball, Warren was responsible. He's now topped 100 yards in consecutive games and should continue to get plenty of opportunity while working alongside Najee Harris.

  • Steelers' Jaylen Warren: Another big game

Warren rushed 15 times for 101 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 23-19 win over the Packers. He also caught two of four targets for nine yards. Warren followed last week's career-best rushing tally by posting a new personal high Sunday. The tailback had a couple long runs, including a 16-yard touchdown during the second quarter. His production came while starter Najee Harris also had a good game, rushing 16 times for 82 yards and a score of his own. Despite sharing snaps, Warren's stock continues to rise ahead of Week 11's divisional clash with the Browns.

  • Steelers' Jaylen Warren: RBs to Sit

Warren has been held to under 40 total yards in each of the past two games against the Rams and Jaguars, and it's not like he's excelling in the passing game compared to Najee Harris. Over the past two games, Warren has five catches for 18 yards on seven targets, and Harris has eight catches for 57 yards on eight targets. We'll see if that continues moving forward, but this isn't an easy matchup against the Titans. I'd only use Harris and Warren as flex options, but Harris is the safer play this week when it comes to the Steelers backfield.
