Top Ryne Stanek News

  • Mets' Ryne Stanek: Headed to Big Apple

The Mets acquired Stanek from the Mariners on Friday in exchange for outfielder Rhylan Thomas, Will Sammon of The Athletic reports.

Stanek has struggled in his eight outings in July, allowing five runs on five hits and six walks and striking out eight over 5.2 innings while registering two blown saves and a loss. However, he's been a solid performer on the while this season while occupying a key late-inning role for Seattle, turning in a 4.38 ERA, 1.33 WHIP, 15 holds and seven saves across 39 innings. The 33-year-old right-hander will likely work in a setup or middle-relief role in front of closer Edwin Diaz.

  • Mariners' Ryne Stanek: Records 15th hold Monday

Stanek recorded a hold in a loss to the Angels on Monday, allowing an earned run on two walks over one-third of an inning. He struck out one.

Stanek had another worrisome outing, yet he still came out of it with a counting stat in the form of his 15th hold of the season. The right-hander took his third loss against the Astros on Saturday after blowing a 2-1 lead; Monday, he walked the first two batters he faced before striking out Nolan Schanuel prior to being swapped out for Andres Munoz, who gave up a game-tying sacrifice fly to Taylor Ward that resulted in a run being charged to Stanek. The 32-year-old Stanek has now allowed at least one earned run in three consecutive appearances, the first time that's transpired this season.

  • Mariners' Ryne Stanek: Takes loss in return Saturday

Stanek (6-3) was charged with the loss against the Astros on Saturday, allowing two earned runs on two hits and a walk over two-thirds of an inning. He struck out one.

Stanek was making his first appearance since being pulled due to back spasms from an outing against the Angels in the final game before the All-Star break. The right-hander was tasked with preserving a 2-1 lead when entering in the seventh, but he immediately faltered by walking Jeremy Pena and then allowing a go-ahead two-run home run to Jake Meyers. The light-hitting Mariners were never able to make up the deficit, saddling Stanek with his second loss in the last three decisions. Stanek was able to throw 25 pitches overall, so unless reports indicating otherwise emerge, it appears his ineffectiveness Saturday was unrelated to any aggravation of the injury.

  • Mariners' Ryne Stanek: Injury further clarified

Stanek's exit from Sunday's game against the Angels after facing just one batter was due to back spasms, MLB.com reports.

Stanek issued a four-pitch walk to Mickey Moniak and was then visited by manager Scott Servais and a trainer before being pulled from the game. Servais subsequently clarified that back spasms were the source of the abrupt exit but did not provide any semblance of a return timetable for Stanek. The right-hander will naturally have an opportunity to recover during the All-Star break, but whether that will be enough time for Stanek to regain full health remains to be seen.

  • Mariners' Ryne Stanek: Exits with trainer

Stanek left Sunday's game against the Angels after walking the first batter he faced in the eighth inning on four straight balls, Shannon Drayer of SeattleSports.com reports.

Stanek came on in the eighth to protect a 2-0 lead after Logan Gilbert fired seven scoreless frames. All four of Stanek's pitches were well off the plate, and he left with a trainer. Andres Munoz, who was already the top Mariners reliever to roster in fantasy, should get the save chances going forward.
