  • Blue Jays' Chris Bassitt: No support in tough-luck loss

Bassitt (9-13) took the loss against Boston on Wednesday, allowing one run on five hits and one walk while striking out nine batters over 6.2 innings.

Bassitt was excellent in the outing, racking up 17 whiffs and tying a season high with nine punchouts while holding Boston to just a first-inning run. However, the Blue Jays' offense couldn't muster up any support, as the team was held to three baserunners and zero runs. Though Bassitt was saddled with his third loss in his past four outings, he did register his first quality start over that span. He's pitched to a 4.27 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 149:57 K:BB through 151.2 innings on the season.

  • Blue Jays' Chris Bassitt: Allows four runs in no-decision

Bassitt allowed four runs on four hits and two walks over six innings in a no-decision Friday. He struck out six in the win against the Angels.

Bassitt was tagged early in this one by the Angels, giving up all four of his runs in the second but then pitching great to get through six frames. Bassitt retired the last 10 hitters he faced, and he's now struck out five or more hitters in seven of his last eight starts. The 35-year-old ended June with a 3.24 ERA but has seen it climb to 4.41 over his last nine starts. His 6.80 ERA over those last nine starts makes him tough to trust down the stretch.

  • Blue Jays' Chris Bassitt: Allows three runs in loss

Bassitt (9-12) took the loss against the Cubs on Saturday, allowing three runs on five hits and two walks with five strikeouts over five innings.

Bassitt surrendered a leadoff homer to Ian Happ in the first inning and then yielded two more runs in the fifth. He battled through two rain delays but failed to record a win or quality start for the fifth time in six chances since the All-Star break. On the year, the veteran owns a 4.34 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and 134:54 K:BB across 139 innings and lines up for a home matchup with the Angels next week.

  • Blue Jays' Chris Bassitt: Sunk by nightmare first inning

Bassitt (9-11) took the loss against the Athletics on Sunday, allowing seven runs on eight hits and two walks with five strikeouts over four innings.

The Athletics brought 11 batters to the plate in the first inning, scoring six runs and crushing two homers before Bassitt was finally able to escape. It's been a frustrating year for the veteran, who was coming off a seven-inning gem against one of baseball's best lineups in Baltimore. However, that outing was his only quality start in seven chances since July 4, a period in which his ERA has grown from 3.24 to 4.30. He'll try to rebound in a road matchup with the Cubs next week.

Overall, Bassitt's ERA is up to 4.02 on the year with a 1.45 WHIP and 115:48 K:BB across 22 starts (123 innings). He'll look to get on track in his next start, currently scheduled as a home rematch with the Orioles early next week.
