The southpaw has given up 17 runs over 24 innings across five starts in August, a span that's seen him yield seven home runs. He's now at a 4.22 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 115:41 K:BB through 121.2 innings over 23 starts this year. He's already past his previous high of 113 innings in a season, set back in 2022, and if the Giants drop much further out of the playoff race, there's a chance Harrison could be shut down at some point in September. He's tentatively projected to make his next start at home versus the Diamondbacks.

This was Harrison's first quality start over four outings in August, though facing the lowly White Sox worked in his favor. The southpaw has allowed 12 runs over 19.1 innings this month. Harrison's previous high for innings in a single year was 113 in 2022, but with the Giants just hanging on in the wild-card race, it's unlikely he gets his workload managed any time soon. He's projected to make his next start on the road at light-hitting Seattle this weekend.

Harrison rebounded after having given up four home runs in his previous start, allowing just two runs to cross the plate Thursday while avoiding the long ball for the sixth time in his last eight starts. Harrison remained in the game following a 50-minute rain delay in the top of the third but was removed with the bases empty and two outs in the fifth at just 61 pitches, a season-low total for the 22-year-old lefty. While there is no indication that an injury was the cause for his removal, Harrison did see a noticeable dip in his velocity with multiple fastballs failing to reach 90 mph. It's possible the Giants will elect to give him extra rest, but as of now he looks to be on track to make his next start, which is tentatively scheduled to take place during next week's home series against Atlanta.

Harrison had been pitching well coming into Saturday, giving up two runs over 17 innings across his previous three starts. However, he was hit hard by the Reds, with four of the six hits against him leaving the park. Two of those homers came during a disastrous fourth frame during which Harrison yielded four total hits and four runs. The four long balls were a season-worst mark for Harrison, and it was just the fourth time through 19 starts that he's surrendered multiple homers in an outing.

Harrison's career high in total innings is 113 from the 2022 season, so the Giants may keep an eye on his workload even though they remain on the fringes of the playoff race. He's projected to make his next start on the road at Cincinnati.
