  • Angels' Jose Soriano: Dealing with arm fatigue

The Angels placed Soriano on the 15-day injured list Saturday due to right arm fatigue, Erica Weston of Bally Sports West reports.

Soriano experienced decreased velocity in Friday's start against Atlanta and was removed after 3.1 innings. The 25-year-old transitioned to a starting role over the offseason and has thrown 113 innings in 2024, by far his highest inning total since entering the professional ranks in 2017. With the Angels not serious playoff contenders, the team shouldn't be expected to push Soriano along in his recovery. Jose Cisnero (shoulder) was activated from the 60-day IL in a corresponding move.

  • Angels' Jose Soriano: Short start versus Atlanta

Soriano allowed two runs on three hits and three walks while striking out five over 3.1 innings in a no-decision versus Atlanta on Friday.

Soriano had quality starts in his first two outings of August after a tumultuous July, but he stumbled against Atlanta. He needed 76 pitches (45 strikes) to record 10 outs in an inefficient appearance that also saw him walk multiple batters for the fifth time in six outings. Soriano is now at a 3.42 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 97:45 K:BB through 113 innings over 22 outings (20 starts) this season. There was no injury reported, so Soriano is tentatively lined up to make his next start at Kansas City.

  • Angels' Jose Soriano: Sharp versus Nats

Soriano didn't factor into the decision Friday against Washington, allowing one run on four hits and a walk over six innings. He struck out seven.

After allowing a run on a pair of hits and a walk in the first inning, Soriano proceeded to blank the Nationals over his final five frames, allowing just two additional hits. The 25-year-old has held opponents to one run or fewer in four of his last five outings. His ERA is down to 3.36 on the season with a 1.19 WHIP and 92:42 K:BB across 109.2 innings. Soriano's currently in line for a home matchup with Atlanta in his next outing.

  • Angels' Jose Soriano: Six shutout frames in no-decision

Soriano did not factor into the decision in a win over the Mets on Saturday, allowing five hits and two walks over six shutout innings. He struck out six.

Soriano kept the Mets' lineup on its toes Saturday, allowing only three men to reach second base over the course of six innings while inducing 14 swings and misses. Unfortunately for the right-hander, he was unable to come away with the win due to the bullpen immediately blowing the Angels' lead in the seventh, though he's now logged a quality start in three of his last four outings. Saturday also marked the second time this season in which Soriano's hurled six shutout frames, while his six strikeouts marked his highest total in that category since May 25 against the Guardians.

  • Angels' Jose Soriano: Falters vs. Athletics

Soriano allowed six runs (three earned) on five hits and two walks while striking out two batters over 2.2 innings in a no-decision against Oakland on Sunday.

Soriano came into the contest having picked up a pair of wins while allowing just two runs over his previous two starts covering 13.2 innings, but he couldn't keep the momentum going Sunday. The right-hander got through the first two frames in good shape but allowed four hits -- including two doubles -- and two walks in the third before being pulled. Five runs scored while he was on the mound, and another was charged to him after his departure, though only three were earned due to a Brandon Drury fielding error. Soriano will try to rebound in his next start, which is tentatively slated to take place at home against the Mets this weekend.
