  • Rockies' Josh Rogers: Clears waivers

The Rockies outrighted Rogers to Triple-A Albuquerque on Wednesday.

Rogers will stick around in the Rockies organization after he went unclaimed off waivers upon being designated for assignment Monday. He had been serving as a reliever for the Rockies but could step into a rotation spot for Albuquerque, with whom he had previously started in nine of his 10 appearances on the season prior to getting called up to Colorado in late May.

  • Rockies' Josh Rogers: Pushed off 40-man roster

The Rockies designated Rogers for assignment Monday.

One day after getting optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque, Rogers now finds himself off the Rockies' 40-man roster after Colorado claimed lefty Antoine Kelly off waivers from Texas in a corresponding move. Before his demotion, Rogers had made five appearances at the big-league level this season, giving up seven earned runs on 12 hits and two walks over 9.1 innings. Rogers will likely stick around with the Rockies as bullpen depth at Albuquerque if he clears waivers.

  • Rockies' Antoine Kelly: Scooped up by Colorado

The Rockies claimed Kelly off waivers from the Rangers on Monday.

Colorado designated left-hander Josh Rogers for assignment to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for Kelly, a 24-year-old southpaw who offers more long-term upside but has struggled mightily in the minors this season. Between stops with Triple-A Round Rock and Double-A Frisco, Kelly has posted a 9.35 ERA and 24:22 K:BB in 17.1 innings.

  • Rockies' Lebarron Johnson: Goes to Colorado in fifth round

The Rockies have selected Johnson with the 139th overall pick in the 2024 First-Year Player Draft.

Johnson, a 6-foot-4, 210-pound righty from Texas, turned down third-round money last year as a draft-eligible sophomore. He logged a 5.60 ERA, 1.70 WHIP and an 84:44 K:BB in 72.1 innings this spring for the Longhorns. He may fit best in a relief role.

  • Rockies' Blake Wright: Selected by Colorado in Round 4

The Rockies have selected Wright with the 106th overall pick in the 2024 First-Year Player Draft.

Wright was a four-year player at Clemson and showed significant power growth in his senior season after his 2023 season was derailed by a wrist injury. He was a captain with the Tigers and is lauded for his baseball IQ, giving him a potential path to the majors as a utility option.

  • Rockies' Cole Messina: Goes to Colorado

The Rockies have selected Messina with the 77th overall pick in the 2024 First-Year Player Draft.

A catcher out of the University of South Carolina, Messina is a better hitter than defender at this stage, but he should be able to stick behind the plate. He could develop double-digit homer power while drawing his share of walks, but he'll likely never hit for a high batting average.

  • Rockies' German Marquez: Rusty in season debut

Marquez didn't factor into the decision Sunday against the Mets, allowing three runs on five hits and four walks across four innings. He struck out three.

Marquez made his first MLB start since April 26, 2023, after undergoing Tommy John surgery. He threw 70 pitches before being pulled. The 28-year-old managed to keep the Mets off the scoreboard until the fourth frame but was hit hard in the fourth. He allowed five of the first six batters he faced in the inning to reach safely, including a two-run home run to Pete Alonso. Marquez walked Francisco Lindor with the bases loaded for the Mets' third run but was able to avoid further damage by getting Brandon Nimmo to ground out with the bases loaded and end the inning. Marquez has previously been a reliable fantasy option, but fantasy managers should proceed with caution considering the right-hander's lengthy absence. The Rockies will play six consecutive games at Coors Field coming out of the All-Star break, though it's unclear when exactly Marquez will pitch.

  • Rockies' Victor Vodnik: Logs five-out save

Vodnik picked up the save Sunday against the Mets, allowing two hits and a walk over 1.2 scoreless innings. He struck out two.

Vodnik took over for Jalen Beeks midway through the eighth frame with one out and runners on second and third. Vodnik walked Francisco Lindor to load the bases and yielded an RBI fielder's choice to Brandon Nimmo before retiring Francisco Alvarez to close out the frame. Holding an 8-5 lead, Vodnik allowed a pair of singles but logged back-to-back strikeouts to close out his second save of 2024. Vodnik has cashed in on both of his save opportunities in July, and with the Rockies' current closing situation up in the air, he could see occasional save chances in the second half of 2024.

  • Rockies' Ezequiel Tovar: Slugs pair of homers

Tovar went 3-for-4 with two two-run home runs during Sunday's 8-5 win over the Mets.

Tovar chipped in two of the Rockies' six long balls Sunday, launching two-run homers off Jose Quintana in the first inning and Adrian Houser in the seventh. After going hitless in 28 at-bats to start July, Tovar is 11-for-25 since, with three doubles, five RBI and four runs scored. Despite the cold spell, the 22-year-old is slashing .274/.302/.462 with 14 home runs, 46 runs, 42 RBI and four stolen bases at the All-Star break.

  • Rockies' Michael Toglia: Goes yard thrice

Toglia went 3-for-4 with three solo home runs during Sunday's 8-5 win over the Mets.

Toglia notched his first career multi-homer game Sunday, launching a solo homer in the fifth, sixth and eighth innings. The 25-year-old is batting .197 with 16 home runs across 50 games this season, but he's been significantly better since becoming a near-everyday player for Colorado at the start of June. In 36 games since then, he's batting .230 with 26 RBI, 20 runs and 12 homers.

  • Rockies' Jared Thomas: Drafted 42nd overall

The Rockies have selected Thomas with the 42nd overall pick in the 2024 First-Year Player Draft.

Thomas is a college outfielder from Texas who has good bat-to-ball skills and developing power. He sacrificed some of his plate discipline in college in an effort to get to more game power, but if he can focus on the hit tool, the power could come, especially if he gets to play half his games in Coors Field. Thomas also has enough speed to potentially play center field.

  • Rockies' Brody Brecht: Headed to Colorado

The Rockies have selected Brecht with the 38th overall pick in the 2024 First-Year Player Draft.

Brecht could have turned pro out of high school, but he chased his dream of playing wide receiver for Iowa instead. With that career path not working out, he opted to focus on baseball last spring, and he's shown high-end stuff and poor control. He had a 14.2 percent walk rate in 78.1 innings as a junior after walking 18.4 percent of batters in 77 innings as a sophomore. Naturally, for a pitcher with such poor accuracy to be taken this high in the draft, Brecht has tantalizing pure stuff, headlined by a an upper-90s fastball that touches 101 mph and an upper-80s slider that touches 91 mph. Some scouts think Iowa's coaching staff is to blame for some of Brecht's issues, and given that he hasn't been focused fully on baseball for long, there could be untapped potential with the 6-foot-4, 235-pound righty. Until further notice, however, he has extreme bullpen risk.

  • Rockies' Charlie Condon: Will call Coors home

The Rockies have selected Condon with the third overall pick in the 2024 First-Year Player Draft.

Condon got to Georgia as a preferred walk-on, then his stock exploded after he red-shirted in 2022. The 6-foot-6, 216-pound corner outfielder had a 1.284 OPS and 25 home runs in 56 games in 2023 and followed that up with a .433/.556/.1.009 slash line and 37 home runs in 60 games this spring. He lowered his strikeout rate from 17.7 percent to 13.5 percent this season. Condon had a .648 OPS in 11 games in the Cape Cod League and an .840 OPS in 10 games with Team USA. He bats and throws right-handed, and while he has seen time at the infield corners, an outfield corner is his most likely landing spot in pro ball. It's possible Condon will provide a fantasy-neutral batting average, just due to his long levers and big cuts, but he could be an elite run producer in the majors during his peak years.

  • Rockies' Sam Hilliard: Hitting bench against southpaw

Hilliard is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mets.

The lefty-hitting Hilliard looks on track to serve as the Rockies' primary option in left field while Nolan Jones (back) is on the injured list, but Hilliard will likely hit the bench when the Rockies face southpaws. With lefty Jose Quintana taking the hill for the Mets on Sunday, Sean Bouchard will step in as the starter in left field in place of Hilliard, who had 5-for-13 with two home runs, one double, one stolen base, one walk, three RBI and three runs over the previous four contests.

  • Rockies' Jake Cave: Idle against lefty

Cave is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mets.

With southpaw Jose Quintana on the hill for the Mets, the lefty-hitting Cave will retreat to the bench for the series finale. Hunter Goodman will step in for Cave in right field.

  • Rockies' Elias Diaz: Resting Sunday

Diaz is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mets.

Diaz will get a breather in the Rockies' final game before the All-Star break, affording Jacob Stallings a turn behind the dish. Upon returning from the injured list June 30, Diaz had started in 12 of the Rockies' ensuing 14 games, going just 11-for-50 (.220 average) with two extra-base hits (both doubles), two RBI and one run over that stretch.
