  • Royals' Dinelson Lamet: Gets MiLB deal from Kansas City

The Royals signed Lamet to a minor-league contract Friday.

Lamet had remained a free agent since opting out of his minor-league contract with the Dodgers back in early June, but he's finally latched on with another organization. The veteran right-hander had been pitching mostly as a starter with Triple-A Oklahoma City, but it's not clear whether the Royals are planning on a starting or relief role for Lamet at Triple-A Omaha.

  • Royals' Drew Waters: Recalled from Omaha

The Royals recalled Waters from Triple-A Omaha on Thursday.

With MJ Melendez (ankle) landing on the injured list Tuesday, Waters will return to Kansas City to give the Royals additional outfield depth coming out of the All-Star break. The 25-year-old went 1-for-8 during his first MLB stint in June, and he's slashed .277/.362/.502 with 44 RBI across 287 plate appearances with Omaha.

  • Royals' Carter Jensen: Climbs to Double-A

The Royals promoted Jensen from High-A Quad Cities to Double-A Northwest Arkansas on Wednesday.

The 21-year-old Jensen will be getting a promotion coming out of the All-Star break, as he'll make the jump to Double-A after slashing .271/.386/.435 with 10 home runs, 16 stolen bases and a 15.5-percent walk rate. Though questions remain about Jensen's ability to stick behind the plate long term, the Royals are continuing to develop him as a catcher, which would enhance his fantasy appeal if/when he reaches the big leagues.

  • Royals' MJ Melendez: On 10-day IL

The Royals placed Melendez on the 10-day injured list Tuesday.

Melendez suffered a sprained left ankle during Sunday's 5-4 loss to the Red Sox and will miss at least the Royals' first six games coming out of the All-Star break before he's eligible for activation July 26. While Melendez is sidelined, Dairon Blanco and Garrett Hampson should see action in left field.

  • Royals' A.J. Causey: Nabbed by Royals

The Royals have selected Causey with the 138th overall pick in the 2024 First-Year Player Draft.

Causey spent his final collegiate season at Tennessee and was effective with heavy usage of both his changeup and slider. He is deceptive thanks to a sidearm delivery, though he often doesn't hit 90 mph with his fastball and gets hit hard without good location. Causey is likely to be a reliever as a pro.

  • Royals' L.P. Langevin: Scooped up by Royals

The Royals have selected Langevin with the 105th overall pick in the 2024 First-Year Player Draft.

A junior college transfer, Langevin won Sun Belt Pitcher of the Year with Louisiana-Lafayette in 2024 while finishing third in Division I with a 15.2 K/9. The right-hander doesn't pop radar guns, but his 92-95 mph fastball has excellent movement out of a deceptive low arm slot. He occasionally mixed in a slider and changeup, but he rarely had to use his secondary pitches against lesser competition. Langevin is expected to work out of the bullpen, and he could be a high-leverage option if one of his other pitches emerges as a weapon.

  • Royals' Drew Beam: Nabbed by KC at pick No. 76

The Royals have selected Beam with the No. 76 overall pick in the 2024 First-Year Player Draft.

A 21-year-old right-hander, Beam underwent an internal brace procedure on his elbow during his senior year of high school in 2021 but quickly bounced back from surgery to emerge as one of the top pitchers in the SEC. He served as Tennessee's No. 1 starter this past spring and leaned on a four-pitch mix highlighted by a mid-80s changeup and complemented by a mid-90s fastball, a low-80s curveball and a high-80s cutter. While none of his offerings profile as true plus pitches, Beam has shown the ability to spot all of his pitches for strikes and generate groundballs at a decent clip.

  • Royals' Salvador Perez: Knocks homer in loss

Perez went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and an additional run scored in Sunday's 5-4 loss to the Red Sox.

Perez heads into the All-Star break 11-for-31 (.355) with three homers and eight RBI during his active eight-game hitting streak. The catcher is up to 17 homers on the year, giving him a good chance of surpassing the 23 he hit in each of the last two campaigns. He's added 62 RBI, 38 runs scored, 16 doubles and a .282/.343/.477 slash line over 94 contests.

  • Royals' Adam Frazier: Homers in loss Sunday

Frazier went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Sunday's 5-4 loss to the Red Sox.

Frazier's homer was his first since June 8. He's gone 4-for-19 (.211) with three RBI over five games since he returned from a right thumb strain. The Royals have used him at second base, at third base, in right field and at designated hitter over the last week, which makes it appear Frazier has supplanted Nick Loftin as the team's top utility man. Frazier is slashing .211/.292/.307 with three homers, two stolen bases, 13 RBI and 20 runs scored across 185 plate appearances this season.

  • Royals' Brady Singer: Pulled in the third

Singer was saddled with the loss Sunday, allowing four runs on eight hits and a walk over 2.2 innings against the Red Sox. He struck out three.

Singer couldn't put things together Sunday, allowing separate two-run homers in each of the first and second innings, then loading the bases in the third prior to being pulled. It was the shortest outing of the season for Singer, who entered the contest having allowed only one earned run during each of his previous four starts. He enters the All-Star break ranked 10th in the majors with a 3.20 ERA to go along with a 1.23 WHIP and 99 strikeouts over 19 starts spanning 104 innings.

  • Royals' David Shields: Drafted in second round

The Royals have selected Shields with the 41st overall pick in the 2024 First-Year Player Draft.

Shields, a 6-foot-2 prep southpaw, gave up football and reclassified to be one of the youngest prospects in this year's class. He won't turn 18 until September and is extremely projectable. His fastball gets up to 94 mph now and could sit in the upper-90s in a few years. Shields' sweeper and changeup also show promise, and his athleticism aids him in repeating his delivery and throwing strikes.

  • Royals' Jac Caglianone: Goes sixth overall

The Royals have selected Caglianone with the sixth overall pick in the 2024 First-Year Player Draft.

While Caglianone was announced as a two-way player (first baseman, lefty pitcher), his avenue to providing fantasy value is as a slugging position player. In many ways, he's like the college version of Giants 2023 draftee Bryce Eldridge -- he's talented enough to be developed as a pitcher in pro ball, but he'd be assigned to one level as a pitcher and a higher level as a hitter, so scrapping pitching feels inevitable. Caglianone is a power-over-hit prospect whose production has steadily improved over his three years at Florida. He is so strong that he can hit home runs out to all fields even when he doesn't fully square the ball up, and when he does square it up, he's capable of hitting it 500-plus feet with a metal bat. The 6-foot-5, 250-pound lefty slugger slashed .414/.536/.862 with 33 home runs and a 53:25 BB:K in 63 games as a junior, but he had a 17:58 BB:K in 71 games as a sophomore, and swing-and-miss/chase concerns will follow him unless he sheds them in the upper minors.
