  • Marlins' Dane Myers: Placed on 10-day IL

Myers (ankle) was placed on the 10-day injured list Thursday.

Myers was diagnosed with a fractured left ankle Saturday and is expected to miss 6-to-8 weeks, so Thursday's move to the IL comes as no surprise. The Marlins will likely promote someone to provide outfield depth prior to Friday's game against the Mets.

  • Marlins' Jesus Luzardo: Taking part in strengthening work

Luzardo (back) has been participating in bike workouts and working on forearm and shoulder strengthening in recent weeks, MLB.com reports.

While Luzardo hasn't been shut down from physical activity since landing on the injured list June 22 with a lumbar stress reaction, he's yet to resume throwing after nearly a month. The Marlins transferred him to the 60-day injured list a day after placing him on the 15-day IL, so the club is already preparing for his absence to extend into the second half of August. A clearer target date for his return won't be available until he's ready to begin a minor-league rehab assignment.

  • Marlins' Josh Simpson: Throwing off mound

Simpson (elbow) threw a 20-pitch bullpen session July 9, MLB.com reports.

Simpson opened the season on the injured list after being diagnosed with left elbow neuritis, but he appeared to be tracking toward a brief stay on the shelf. However, after making a rehab appearance April 6, Simpson incurred a setback and ultimately underwent surgery later that month. Nearly three months later, Simpson is finally starting to make some real progress in the recovery process as he conducts his rehab at the Marlins' facility in Jupiter, Fla. He could be cleared to start facing hitters in live batting practice shortly after the All-Star break.

  • Marlins' Braxton Garrett: Begins rehab process

Garrett is considered asymptomatic while he continues to rehab his strained left forearm at the Marlins' facility in Jupiter, Fla., MLB.com reports.

Garrett -- who was placed on the injured list June 23 -- is focused on strengthening his forearm for now before he kicks off a throwing program. The southpaw still looks to be multiple weeks away from a return, and given their place in the standings, the 33-63 Marlins are in no hurry to bring Garrett back.

  • Marlins' Otto Lopez: Rehabs at Triple-A over weekend

Lopez (back) began a rehab assignment last weekend at Triple-A Jacksonville, appearing in three games while going 2-for-12 with a double and a run scored.

Lopez hasn't moved his rehab assignment to the rookie-level Florida Complex League while all of the Marlins' full-season affiliates are in the midst of their All-Star break, but so long as he didn't experience any setbacks with his back this past weekend, he could be ready to return from the 10-day injured list when Miami opens its second-half schedule Friday versus the Mets. Before being placed on the shelf July 4 with lower-back inflammation, Lopez slashed .252/.279/.350 with three home runs and six stolen bases across 174 plate appearances. Lopez could take back primary starting duties at second base from Vidal Brujan once he's activated.

  • Marlins' Max Meyer: Might be up next week

The Marlins could wait until at least Sunday to recall Meyer from Triple-A Jacksonville, as they would gain an extra year of club control by doing so, Ely Sussman of FishonFirst.com reports.

After throwing five-plus innings in three big-league starts to begin the season, Meyer was optioned to Jacksonville on April 15 and had been capped at four innings or less in his first 10 starts for the affiliate. He threw a minor-league season-high six innings for Jacksonville on July 9, then logged five scoreless frames July 14, so he looks to be fully stretched out at this point. Given the incentives in place, it's quite possible Meyer rejoins the big-league rotation for good next week.

  • Marlins' Declan Cronin: Stumbles into All-Star break

Cronin has posted a 3.72 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and 49:17 K:BB through 46 innings with one win, two holds and zero saves over 33 appearances.

Claimed off waivers over the winter, Cronin gave the Marlins some quality innings early in the season in a low-leverage role. The league may have figured the right-hander out however -- over his last 12 appearances, he carries a rough 8.27 ERA and 1.84 WHIP. Cronin's biggest strength is a 54.5 percent groundball rate, but he's still been somewhat fortunate to have allowed zero homers so far in 2024. If that luck runs out, further regression could be coming for his ERA. Even if Miami ships out high-leverage relievers like Tanner Scott by the trade deadline, Cronin seems unlikely to take over a prominent role.

  • Marlins' Grant Shepardson: Scooped by Marlins

The Marlins have selected Shepardson with the 155th overall pick in the 2024 First-Year Player Draft.

Shepardson is a prep righty from Colorado with a four-pitch mix. He has a chance for two plus pitches with a high-spin heater up to 95 mph and a power breaking ball. His changeup is more of a work in progress, as is his command and control.

  • Marlins' Fenwick Trimble: Lands with Fish

The Marlins have selected Trimble with the 122nd overall pick in the 2024 First-Year Player Draft.

Trimble had a strong collegiate career at James Madison and has some power-speed potential after posting 14 home runs and 16 steals in his junior year. There is some concern due to struggles in the Cape Cod League in 2023, when he hit just .209 with a .562 OPS. Trimble may start his pro career in center field, but he'll likely shift to a corner spot at some point, meaning his bat will have to play up.

  • Marlins' Gage Miller: Goes to Miami in third round

The Marlins have selected Miller with the 92nd overall pick in the 2024 First-Year Player Draft.

Miller made the jump from the JUCO ranks to the SEC with Alabama in 2024 and emerged as one of the top hitters in the conference. The 21-year-old showed impressive bat speed and strength and capably handled both breaking pitchers and fastball, hitting .381 with 18 home runs in 55 games during his lone season with the Crimson Tide. While he receives high marks for his hit tool, Miller lacks speed and arm strength and could eventually settle at first base or in the corner outfield in the pro ranks.

  • Marlins' Xavier Edwards: Two pilfers in Sunday's win

Edwards went 2-for-3 with a walk, a run scored, an RBI and two stolen bases in Sunday's win over the Reds.

The 24-year-old switch hitter, acquired from the Rays in Nov. 2022, appears to be solidifying his spot as the Marlins' shortstop of both the present and the future. Edwards has multiple hits in six of the last eight games, batting .448 (13-for-29) over that stretch with two doubles, two RBI, three steals, four runs and a 4:3 BB:K. Manager Skip Schumaker has mainly had Edwards hitting fifth or lower since his promotion at the beginning of the month, but his skill set would seem very well suited for the top of the batting order.

  • Marlins' Aiden May: Drafted with 70th pick

The Marlins have selected May with the 70th overall pick in the 2024 First-Year Player Draft.

May pitched for a different college all three years and spent his junior season in the Oregon State rotation, save for a month he missed with an elbow strain. The 6-foot-2 righty's slider is his best pitch, while his 94-to-95 mph fastball is an above-average offering. He'll work on improving his changeup and control enough for him to start, but he could fit in a big-league bullpen eventually if that doesn't work out.

  • Marlins' Tanner Scott: Notches four-out save

Scott allowed two walks over 1.1 scoreless innings and earned a save against the Reds on Sunday. He struck out two batters.

Scott faced a two-on, two-out situation in the ninth inning but struck out Edwin Rios to close out the 3-2 win. He's riding a 12.1-inning scoreless streak while converting six straight save chances. He's now 14 for 16 in save opportunities with a stellar 1.34 ERA through 39 appearances.

  • Marlins' Carter Johnson: Going to Miami

The Marlins have selected Johnson with the 56th overall pick in the 2024 First-Year Player Draft.

Johnson, a prep shortstop from Alabama, has good size at 6-foot-2, 180 pounds and bats left-handed. He has a chance for average or better tools across the board, although he didn't always perform in high-profile showcase events and can be exposed against good offspeed stuff. Johnson is an average or better runner now, but he could slow down as he fills out his frame. He could eventually move off shortstop to second base or third base.

  • Marlins' Trevor Rogers: Yields two runs

Rogers allowed two runs on two hits and three walks over 5.2 innings in a no-decision Sunday. He struck out four during the win over the Reds.

Rogers worked through five shutout frames before coughing up a two-run homer to Elly De La Cruz in the sixth. It was Rogers' second straight start allowing two runs but failing to complete the sixth inning. He's 0-3 over his last 10 starts and hasn't earned a win since May 15. Despite that, he's settled into a groove recently; Rogers has produced a 3.29 ERA over 38.1 frames in his last seven outings. He enters the All-Star break with a 4.72 ERA and a 79:44 K:BB through 19 starts.

  • Marlins' PJ Morlando: Drafted 16th overall

The Marlins have selected Morlando with the 16th overall pick in the 2024 First-Year Player Draft.

A 6-foot-3 lefty-hitting prep hitter from South Carolina, Morlando's stock slipped this spring, and it was surprising to see him still go in the first round. He is an advanced hitter with the frame to hit for significant power, but he has been unable to get to his raw power in games with consistency. He has played catcher and third base in the past, but the expectation is that he will end up at first base or in left field. Morlando turned 19 in May, making him one of the oldest high-school players in the class.

  • Marlins' Dane Myers: Out 6-to-8 weeks with ankle injury

Myers suffered a fractured left ankle kicking the clubhouse door Saturday and will miss 6-to-8 weeks, Craig Mish of the Miami Herald reports.

The righty-hitting outfielder was slashing .265/.337/.422 with two home runs and four steals in 95 plate appearances. Myers had been mostly limited to starts against left-handed pitchers this season, and the injury explains his absence from Sunday's matchup against lefty Nick Lodolo.
