  • Commanders' Jamison Crowder: Rested for final preseason game

Crowder didn't play in Sunday's 20-10 preseason win over New England.

It's a good sign for his odds of having a spot on the initial 53-man roster, and Crowder might even get some early season snaps on offense after the Commanders traded Jahan Dotson to the Eagles and left themselves with an extremely thin WR room. Crowder mostly seems to be around for punt returns at this point in his career, but he could get a look in the slot as well, especially if the Commanders want to play Olamide Zaccheaus on the perimeter.

  • Commanders' Jamison Crowder: Staying in Washington

Crowder agreed to one-year deal with the Commanders on Wednesday, Josina Anderson of CBS Sports reports.

Crowder spent his first four NFL seasons in Washington from 2015 through 2018 and made his way back to the Commanders last fall. He had one big game in a Week 8 loss to the Eagles but mostly served as a return specialist and depth receiver. Crowder turns 31 in August and may not have a guaranteed roster spot heading into training camp this summer.

  • Commanders' Jamison Crowder: Finishes year with 16 catches

Crowder finished the 2023 season with 16 catches for 159 yards and a touchdown on 20 targets and 35 punt returns for 278 yards over 17 gam es.

The 30-year-old slot receiver rejoined his original NFL team -- he was a fourth-round pick of Washington in 2015 -- after a three-year stint with the Jets and four games with the Bills in 2022. He mostly working as a punt returner but also came up with a 7-95-1 receiving line Oct. 29 against the Eagles when injuries thrust him into the lineup on offense. Crowder drew six targets the following week and then only five more the rest of the season. He's scheduled for unrestricted free agency again this offseason, with punt returns and a backup slot role representing his best path to sticking around in the NFL for another year.

  • Commanders' Jamison Crowder: Playing time takes hit Week 13

Crowder went without a target while playing five of the Commanders' 55 snaps on offense in Sunday's 45-15 loss to the Dolphins.

Crowder had logged double-digit snaps in four of the Commanders' previous five games while producing a 13-130-1 receiving line on 16 targets, but he dropped to sixth in the pecking order at receiver Sunday with all of Terry McLaurin, Jahan Dotson, Curtis Samuel, Byron Pringle and Dyami Brown seeing more playing time. Though the Commanders could look to work Crowder in more at the expense of either Pringle or Brown coming out of their Week 14 bye, McLaurin, Dotson and Samuel are locked in as Washington's clear top three wideouts when healthy.
