  • Browns' D'Onta Foreman: Returning to Cleveland

Foreman agreed to a new contract with the Browns on Thursday, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports.

Foreman was among Cleveland's initial roster cuts Tuesday, but the looming release of quarterback Tyler Huntley creates a spot for him to return to the team, which was always the plan. With Nick Chubb (knee) and Nyheim Hines (knee) both out the first four games of the season and potentially longer, Foreman will be positioned for a potentially significant role out of the backfield. Jerome Ford projects to be the Browns' starting back until Chubb is able to return, but Foreman and Pierre Strong (ribs) could rotate in.

  • D'Onta Foreman: Let go by Browns

Foreman's contract was terminated by the Browns on Tuesday, Kelsey Russo of the team's official site reports.

Following the move to cut Foreman, Jerome Ford and Pierre Strong are the only two running backs on the Browns' initial 53-man roster. Look for the team to make additional moves to bolster the backfield, however. As for Foreman, he's now a free agent, but it's plausible that Cleveland could elect to bring him back in the coming days, Field Yates of ESPN reports.

  • Browns' D'Onta Foreman: Staying sidelined

Foreman (ribs) will not practice Tuesday, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports.

Foreman suffered the injury during Saturday's preseason game against the Seahawks. The severity of the injury and how long the Texas product may be out is still unknown, but he is one of multiple Browns running backs dealing with injuries, which will likely have an impact on Cleveland's final 53-man roster.

  • Browns' D'Onta Foreman: Injures ribs Saturday

Foreman sustained a rib injury during Saturday's preseason contest in Seattle, Kelsey Russo of the Browns' official site reports.

After a three-yard carry on the first play of the second quarter, Foreman needed assistance to make his way to the sideline tent and then walked slowly to the locker room, at which point the health concern became clear. The Browns are banged up at running back at the moment, with all of Nick Chubb (knee, PUP), Pierre Strong (rib) and Nyheim Hines (knee, NFI) not practicing at the moment. Considering it's exhibition season, the team likely will exercise caution with Foreman, instead rolling with Aidan Robbins and Jacob Saylors for the rest of Saturday's game.

  • Browns' D'Onta Foreman: Big workload against Vikes

Foreman carried the ball 10 times for 18 yards and a touchdown and caught all five of his targets for 46 yards in Saturday's 27-12 preseason loss to the Vikings. He also returned one kickoff for 21 yards.

Foreman was not part of the starting lineup, but he did enter on the opening series once the Browns reached the red zone and punched in a one-yard TD to cap the drive. With Jerome Ford sitting out and Nick Chubb (knee) not ready for game action yet, Pierre Strong got the start Saturday in the Cleveland backfield and played only two series before checking out. Foreman then played into the third quarter, and he wound up leading the Browns in touches and yards from scrimmage. The journeyman made a solid case to begin the season as the No. 3 RB behind Ford and Strong, but Saturday's usage could also have been a sign the Browns are showcasing Foreman for a potential trade.

  • Browns' D'Onta Foreman: Back at practice Thursday

Foreman (neck) is participating in Thursday's practice, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports.

Foreman is back on the practice field for the first time since suffering a scary neck injury Aug. 1, for which he had to be transported to a hospital via helicopter for evaluation. X-rays and CT scans showed no major damage, however, and after roughly a week of recovery time the veteran running back has been cleared to resume practicing. He'll resume competing for backfield snaps with Jerome Ford and Pierre Strong, while Nick Chubb (knee) and Nyheim Hines (knee) continue to work back from their respective ACL tears.
