Los Angeles gave Jones permission to seek a trade when it became clear the two sides wouldn't be able to work out a contract extension, and the IDP standout is now on the move. He figures to immediately shift into a starting middle linebacker role alongside Kenneth Murray for the Titans, likely bumping Jack Gibbens to a rotational gig.

Rams' Ernest Jones: Absent from practice
Jones is not practicing Monday after the Rams granted him permission Sunday to seek a trade, Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic reports.
Jones, who is heading into the final year of his rookie deal, is clearly on the trade block. That could be partially due to the fact that UDFA Omar Speights has impressed enough to secure a roster spot, per Cameron DaSilva of USA Today. Coach Sean McVay said Monday that Jones didn't request a trade, per Rodrigue, which could be an indication that the team made its own decision to move on. Jones tallied career-high totals in terms of tackles (145) and sacks (4.5) across 15 regular-season games in 2023.

Rams' Ernest Jones: Allowed to seek trade
The Rams granted Jones and his agents permission to seek a trade Sunday, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.
Heading into the final season of his rookie deal, Jones was hoping to land an extension with the Rams after registering career highs in both tackles (145) and sacks (4.5) in 2023. However, the two sides were unable to come to an agreement in the offseason and training camp, prompting the Rams to grant the 2021 third-round pick permission to engage with other teams on a trade. The Rams will presumably hope to have a trade in place before they have to trim their roster to 53 players Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET.

Rams' Ernest Jones: Back in action
Jones (knee) is returning to practice Wednesday, Cameron DaSilva of USA Today reports.
Jones missed practice earlier in the week as he tended to an injury he was dealing with during OTAs. There was initially some concern about his status as the injury seemed to be lingering, but his return for a joint practice against the Cowboys should be good news for Jones and the Rams.

Rams' Ernest Jones: Nursing knee injury
Jones was sidelined for Friday's pracice due to a knee injury, Stu Jackson of the Rams' official site reports.
Jones dealt with this same injury during OTAs and has not completely recovered from it yet. When healthy, he is expected to start next to Christian Rozeboom at inside linebacker this season. If he is ultimately forced to miss more practice time, the likes of Troy Reeder, Olakunle Fatukasi and Omar Speights figure to see more snaps.

Jones' 145 tackles (in just 15 regular-season games) set the Rams record for most tackles in a single season, eclipsing the 142 James Laurinaitis recorded in 2011 and tied in 2012. Jones is entering the final year of his rookie deal in 2024, and given the multi-faceted abilities he's showcased as the head of a young Rams linebacker corps, it wouldn't be shocking to see Jones earn a contract extension to continue his role as a leader on defense.

Rams' Ernest Jones: Not playing Week 18
Jones (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game against the 49ers, Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic reports.
Jones was among seven key contributors that the Rams listed as doubtful -- and one of five for noninjury reasons -- ahead of the regular-season finale. The Rams will be the NFC's No. 6 or 7 seed regardless of the outcome of Week 18 games, so Jones and some of the team's other stars will get a respite Sunday to avoid sustaining potential injuries in advance of the postseason. The linebacker finishes the regular season with 145 tackles, 4.5 sacks and six pass breakups over 15 appearances.

Jones recorded 13 tackles (seven solo), one quarterback hit and one tackle for loss during Sunday's 26-25 victory against the Giants.
Despite coming into the contest questionable with an illness, the third-year linebacker played every snap on defense and resumed his role as team leader in tackles. Jones' 13 stops marked his eighth time this season with double digits in that category, and his 145 tackles this season has him tied for seventh overall in the NFL with T.J. Edwards of the Bears heading into Week 18.

Despite logging a DNP on Friday due to an illness, Jones will suit up in Week 17.
