NORTHEAST REGION: 2020 Census
The region is made up of six states in New England and three in the Middle Atlantic.
MIDWEST REGION: 2020 Census
The Midwest has five states in the East North Central part of the region and seven in the West North Central.
SOUTH REGION: 2020 Census
The South Region has eight states and the District of Columbia in the South Atlantic, four states in East South Central and four states in West South Central.
WEST REGION: 2020 Census
The West Region is made up of 13 states: eight in the Mountain West and five in the Pacific division.
ALABAMA: 2020 Census
The Yellowhammer State’s population increased 5.1% to 5,024,279 from 2010 to 2020.
ALASKA: 2020 Census
The Last Frontier State was the least densely populated state in 2020 with a population of 733,391 (1.3 people per square mile), up 3.3% from 2010.
ARIZONA: 2020 Census
The Grand Canyon State’s population grew 11.9% to 7,151,502 from 2010 to 2020.
ARKANSAS: 2020 Census
The Natural State’s population grew 3.3% to 3,011,524 from 2010 to 2020.
CALIFORNIA: 2020 Census
The Golden State’s population was 39,538,223 in 2020, a 6.1% increase since 2010 but slower than its 10% gain in the previous decade.
COLORADO: 2020 Census
The Centennial State’s population was 5,773,714 in 2020, making it one of 13 states and the District of Columbia that grew by 10.0% or more from 2010 to 2020.
CONNECTICUT: 2020 Census
Of the 47 U.S. states that gained population from 2010 to 2020, the Constitution State’s 0.9% growth to 3,605,944 was the slowest.
DELAWARE: 2020 Census
The population of The First State increased 10.2% to 989,948 from 2010 to 2020.
DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA: 2020 Census
The Nation’s Capital joined 13 states with the biggest growth spurts from 2010 to 2020, with its population jumping 14.6% to nearly 690,000.
FLORIDA: 2020 Census
The Sunshine State’s 14.6% population growth from 2010 to 2020 pushed it past New York as the nation’s third most populous state.
GEORGIA: 2020 Census
The Peach State, with a 2020 population of 10,711,908, added 1,024,255 people last decade, making it one of five states with the largest numeric increases.
HAWAII: 2020 Census
The Aloha State’s population grew 7.0% to 1,455,271 from 2010 to 2020.
IDAHO: 2020 Census
The Gem State was second to Utah in population growth, jumping 17.3% to 1,839,106 from 2010 to 2020.
ILLINOIS: 2020 Census
The Prairie State’s population declined to 12.8 million in 2020. Only two other states lost population: West Virginia and Mississippi (along with Puerto Rico).
INDIANA: 2020 Census
The Hoosier State’s population was 6,785,528 in 2020, up 4.7% since 2010.
IOWA: 2020 Census
The Hawkeye State grew 4.7% to 3,190,369 from 2010 to 2020.
KANSAS: 2020 Census
The Sunflower State’s population grew 3.0% to 2,937,880 from 2010 to 2020.
KENTUCKY: 2020 Census
The Bluegrass State added 166,469 people since 2010, a 3.8% increase to 4,505,836.
LOUISIANA: 2020 Census
The population of the Pelican State increased 2.7% to 4,657,757 from 2010 to 2020.
MAINE: 2020 Census
The Pine Tree State’s population was 1,362,359 in 2020, a 2.6% increase since 2010
MARYLAND: 2020 Census
The Old Line State added more than 400,000 people from 2010 to 2020, raising its population to 6,177,224.
MASSACHUSETTS: 2020 Census
The Bay State added more than 480,000 people last decade for a total population of 7,029,917 in 2020.
MICHIGAN: 2020 Census
The Wolverine State grew by 2.0% or 193,691 people from 2010 to 2020, raising its population to 10,077,331.
MINNESOTA: 2020 Census
The North Star State added 402,569 people from 2010 to 2020, bringing its population to 5,706,494.
MISSISSIPPI: 2020 Census
The Magnolia State’s population declined 0.2% from 2010 to 2020 to 2,961,279.
MISSOURI: 2020 Census
The Show Me State’s population increased 2.8% to 6,154,913 from 2010 to 2020.
MONTANA: 2020 Census
The Big Sky Country State grew 9.6% from 2010 to 2020, raising its population to 1,084,225.
NEBRASKA: 2020 Census
Population of the Cornhusker State grew 7.4% to 1,961,504 from 2010 to 2020.
NEVADA: 2020 Census
The Silver State population grew 15.0% to 3,104,614 from 2010 to 2020.
NEW HAMPSHIRE: 2020 Census
Population of the Granite State increased 4.6% to 1,377,529 from 2010 to 2020.
NEW JERSEY: 2020 Census
The Garden State gained almost 500,000 people from 2010 to 2020, bringing its population to 9,288,994, a 5.7% increase.
NEW MEXICO: 2020 Census
The Land of Enchantment State’s population was 2,117,522 in 2020, up 2.8% from 2010.
