Free Agency

2020 Browns free agency preview: Market could be full of options at cornerback

The new league year is just around the corner, and the Browns' roster could have a bit of a different look to it by this time next month.

Throughout the week, we're going to break down Cleveland's roster situation at each of its position groups and look across the league at the top names likely to hit free agency starting March 18.

We're continuing this weekend with a look at the cornerbacks, where Cleveland has some young, talented players but also plenty of room for more reliable depth.

Who's back?

Denzel Ward - A Pro Bowler as a rookie, Ward was solid during a second season in which he was sidelined for four games because of a hamstring injury. He intercepted two passes and returned one for a touchdown.

Greedy Williams - The second-round rookie was also sidelined for four games with a hamstring injury but was a reliable starter when healthy.

Terrance Mitchell - The veteran appeared in 15 games and started four. He's started 11 games in his two seasons with the Browns.

Tavierre Thomas - For a second straight year, Thomas proved to be one of Cleveland's most valuable special teams players.

Robert Jackson - He appeared in six games and was almost exclusively used on special teams.

Donnie Lewis Jr. - The former seventh-round pick spent most of the season on the practice squad and did not appear in any games.

7. Byron Jones, Cowboys - He's expected to cash in big after his fifth season as an every-game starter in Dallas.

21. Chris Harris Jr., Broncos - The four-time Pro Bowler has been one of the best at his position for years and looks to have a few more years left in the tank.

34. James Bradberry, Panthers - He's started all but four games in his first four NFL seasons and is entering his prime after collecting a career-best three interceptions in 2019.

46. Logan Ryan, Titans - This will be Ryan's second trip into free agency after three seasons in Tennessee. Ryan has 17 career interceptions and has been a near-every-game starter since 2015.

47. Kendall Fuller, Chiefs - A key piece in the trade that sent Alex Smith to the Redskins in 2018, Fuller has been solid wherever he's played. He's just 25 and entering his fifth season.

53. Trae Waynes, Vikings - A former first-round pick, Waynes could hit the market after five solid seasons in Minnesota.

55. Bradley Roby, Texans - His first season outside of Denver was limited to 10 games because of injuries. The former Ohio State star has nine career interceptions and three touchdowns.

65. Darqueze Dennard, Bengals - He's been a valuable member of Cincinnati's defense ever since he was selected in the first round back in 2014, but he's been hampered by injuries in each of the past two seasons.

67. Eli Apple, Saints - Another former Ohio State star, Apple found new life in New Orleans after struggling with the Giants.

69. Ronald Darby, Eagles - He hasn't played close to a full season since 2016, but Darby has proven to be solid when healthy.

79. Jimmy Smith, Ravens - A nemesis of Cleveland's for years, Smith could hit the market after nine seasons and 83 starts in Baltimore.

86. Bashaud Breeland, Chiefs - He could be on his fourth team in as many years, but Breeland will do so after one of the best of his six NFL seasons.

87. Prince Amukamara, Bears - A first-round pick back in 2011, Amukamara was an every-game starter in Chicago for the past three. His best season came in 2018, when the Bears were one of the league's most dominant defenses.
