Let’s start big picture.
Forget what you think you know about tiny, manicured sculpture gardens. Storm King Art Center—simply, Storm King to those fleeing the city to see it—is an extraordinary 500-acre outdoor museum just across the river from Beacon and Cold Spring, complete with works from Alexander Calder, Zhang Huan, and Sol LeWitt. In autumn, it’s hard to say what’s more striking here: the artwork or the scenery. Strap on your best walking shoes and pack a picnic. You’ll want to spend a day exploring here.

Any standout features or must-sees?
With most of the collection outside, there are no pesky limitations like ceiling height on the scale of the pieces, so artists who have built site-specific pieces have been allowed to run with their imaginations.

Was it easy to get around??
Walking shoes are a must, but much of the walking can be done on a pathway and there are trams (during warmer months) that shuttle visitors around the property.

Any tips for those short on time?
With 500 acres to explore, it's hard to appreciate Storm King in an hour. Best to plan to spend a morning or an afternoon here. You'll also want to arrive early, as on nice days there can be quite a back up on the roads leading in.
