Helen Iatrou

Helen Iatrou is a freelance journalist and guidebook author who writes about travel, lifestyle, yachting, sailing, small ship cruises, food, fitness and wellbeing, and sustainability. When she is not traveling, Helen is based in Athens, where she has cultivated insider Greece expertise over almost three decades. Saltwater and ink surely run through her veins. Born in Australia to parents from a tiny, remote Greek island, she grew up on the coasts of Melbourne and Brisbane before graduating from the University of Queensland with a bachelor’s degree in the Arts with a double major in journalism. Helen’s work also appears in Travel + Leisure, National Geographic Travel, CNN, CNBC, Lonely Planet, Robb Report, Food & Wine, Afar, Thrillist and more. She is also an avid sailor and diehard beach bum. Every chance Helen gets, she cruises and races sailing yachts everywhere from the Mediterranean to the Caribbean.
