Jonathan is a freelance travel and arts writer, artist, art historian and award-winning tech entrepreneur based in Montenegro, Hungary and the UK. Jonathan received his BA and MA in Russian and Italian at the University of Oxford before training as an actor in Paris and then founding London’s first gallery specialising in contemporary art from the former Soviet Republics and the world’s first online application for creating and ordering tailor-made shirts. Following an 8-year change of direction, running forestry and gold mining companies in Siberia and the Russian Arctic, respectively, Jonathan returned to the UK as co-founder of an award-winning tech startup while also studying for an MA in History of Art before reclaiming his love of writing, art and travel as a profession. Over recent years Jonathan has written for digital and print publications, including Condé Nast Traveller, House and Garden, Tripadvisor, The Art Newspaper and Decanter. Jonathan's travel experience includes living with Old Believers by the Sea of Azov and Cossacks in the Caucasus at the age of just eighteen, six months travelling through the mountains and deserts of Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan at the turn of the century, and periods spent in almost every European country as well as extensive travel in the US, Caribbean and Asia. Jonathan is fluent in French, Russian, Italian and Serbian and speaks excellent bad Hungarian. When he is not writing and travelling, he loves studying languages, hiking,
visiting exhibitions, and creating sculptures, photographs and drawings.
