It took just one TikTok rabbit hole to convince me that not only was Bodrum the ultimate foodie hot spot of Turkey (Türkiye), but also that I needed to visit immediately.

Luckily, my boyfriend shares my passions for good food and spontaneous adventures, so it didn’t take much convincing before we booked our next trip.

Explore the glamourous Bodrum marina

Bodrum, on the southwestern coast, is surrounded by gorgeous turquoise waters. It’s also considered to be quite the celeb hangout, with plenty of stylish bars, restaurants and beach clubs to match.

Thanks to Jet2holidays’ flexible flight times and generous 22kg baggage allowance, booking was effortless, so we could focus on curating an ever-growing list of must-visits.

Having recently returned, here’s my tried-and-tested guide to the coolest places in Bodrum this summer.

Soak up the rays on Bitez beach

Endless beach days

Bodrum is home to an abundance of beaches, including the famed Bitez Beach. We rented a private cabana and sipped chilled rosé between swimming and tanning. Head to Ortakent Yahşi Beach for windsurfing, Gümbet Beach for scuba diving or Küdür Beach for the best views.

Sunset boat trips

Bodrum’s spectacularly clear water needs an up-close-and-personal viewing at least once. We chartered a traditional gulet (a yacht-like boat) for a sunset sail, complete with a private chef. Floating past picturesque islands and lush green landscapes made for an unforgettable evening surrounded by nature.

Shop in the bazaars

We spent hours wandering through the narrow alleys, breathing in the scent of freshly baked pastries and wondering how much pottery was too much for two people to bring home (answer: the limit does not exist – well, within your 22kg baggage allowance, that is). The bazaar is the perfect place to immerse yourself in local culture and pick up a few unique treasures.

Explore the historic fortification of Bodrum Castle

The ruins of Myndos

History buffs will appreciate a visit to the Ancient Theatre of Bodrum and the ruins of Myndos. Walking among the remnants of ancient walls, gates and tombs felt like being transported back in time. And those views from the top? *Chef’s kiss*

The quaint village of Gümüşlük

This charming seaside village is renowned for its artisanal shops and tranquil atmosphere. We strolled along the waterfront, exploring boutiques filled with handmade jewellery, textiles and ceramics. While you’re here, don’t miss trying Gümüşlük’s famous lokma with orange (crispy fried dough balls).

Bodrum Castle

The castle is incredibly well preserved and has gorgeous views of the waterfront. The Museum of Underwater Archaeology, housed within the castle, is also fascinating, showcasing an impressive collection of shipwrecks and artefacts like ancient coins and jewellery rescued from the sea.

Dine on fresh produce in Bodrum’s beautiful waterfront restaurants

Gourmet seafood at Yalıkavak Marina

You’ll want to do a lap of the marina before choosing somewhere for dinner – this upscale area is filled with stylish restaurants and we were spoilt for choice. Lobster, oysters and freshly caught fish come accompanied by Turkish classics and a backdrop of luxury yachts.

MICHELIN-starred restaurants in Göltürkbükü

Göltürkbükü is all about chic beach clubs and boutique hotels, and is home to top-tier culinary experiences. Think octopus carpaccio, lobster ravioli and fine wines.

Traditional dining in the meyhanes

For a more traditional taste of Turkey (Türkiye), head to a local meyhane. These atmospheric taverns serve up an array of mezze, perfect for sharing. Expect a warm welcome, cosy settings and tables filled to the brim with small dishes. The best ones are in Bodrum city centre or Gümüşlük.

Dip into the crystal waters of Gümbet Beach

Gümbet

If you’re after vibrant nightlife and endless fun, Gümbet is the place to be. We stayed at an ultra-modern resort with sophisticated bars and signature cocktails just a stone’s throw away. During the day, lounge on the golden sands or try your hand at windsurfing and jet-skiing.

Bitez

Bitez offers a serene, laid-back atmosphere. Our stay in a cosy beachfront hotel was nothing short of idyllic, with the gentle waves lulling us to sleep each night. This area is renowned for its underrated local restaurants and calm waters, ideal for a leisurely morning walk.

Yalıkavak

Yalıkavak is the epitome of luxury, with a stunning marina filled with superyachts and fancy boutiques. Days here are best spent getting pampered in a lavish hotel spa followed by a fine dining experience.
