Amazon has officially announced the dates for Prime Day 2024, its highly anticipated annual summer sale. Shoppers will have 48 hours to take advantage of discounts across various categories on Amazon’s site, including up to 40% off Sony headphones and over 60% off Amazon devices.

When is Prime Day?

This year, the event will take place on July 16 and 17, beginning at 3:01 a.m. EDT. This is a week later than expected as Prime Day is usually during the second week of July.

What is Prime Day?

The event, first introduced in 2015 to celebrate Amazon’s 20th anniversary, has since evolved into a two-day shopping spree offering significant discounts on thousands of products. In recent years, Amazon has also hosted a similar event in October, often branded under a different name, and this year introduced its first-ever Big Spring Sale Event.

Despite the extensive discounts, Prime Day is not a sitewide sale. Only Prime members can access these deals. Shoppers can expect hundreds of thousands of deals across nearly all product categories from brands such as Sony, Allbirds, and Kiehl’s, as well as Amazon’s own products.

What categories will be on sale?

The beauty of Prime Day is that every category on Amazon's site features steep discounts, from travel accessories and luggage to must-have sandals, sneakers, and hiking boots. While the discount amount varies by product, shoppers can find incredible deals on items like a four-pack of Apple AirTags or the dependable Samsonite Omni PC Hardside Expandable Carry-on, offering some of the lowest prices seen all year.

How much is Amazon Prime membership?

An Amazon Prime membership costs $139 per year or $14.99 per month. Amazon also offers a discounted Prime membership for students, which costs $69 per year or $7.49 per month, and a discounted rate for qualifying government assistance recipients at $6.99 per month.
