The rain that fell across the region Friday night and Saturday morning will give way to clear skies by the evening, but the heat North Jersey has seen for much of the past week will continue through the weekend and into next week for yet another heat wave, according to National Weather Service.

Some moderate and heavy showers hit the area Saturday morning but by mid-morning the rain had mostly moved east. North Jersey can expect some lingering light to moderate showers through the afternoon, with the rain tapering off west to east. By evening, residents can expect completely dry weather with the skies starting to clear by the evening.

The flood watch that had been in effect Saturday morning was canceled, said James Tomasini of the National Weather Service. Highs for Saturday will be in the upper 80s. The temperature will increase Sunday, when Tomasini said to expect mostly sunny skies and dry conditions with a slight chance of afternoon thunderstorms.

Next heat wave in NJ

Highs on Sunday will be in the mid-90s with a heat index value between 95 and 100 degrees.

“Because of that a heat advisory is in effect Sunday and Monday for all of northeast New Jersey except for northern Passaic County,” he said. “Highs on Tuesday also look in upper 90s as of forecast now.”

It looks to be at least the third heat wave of the summer for North Jersey.

The heat wave is expected to continue into Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service. By Thursday and Friday, temperatures will drop back into the mid-80s.
