The College of Justice, Safety, and Military Science is Eastern Kentucky University’s first and only Program of Distinction, designated by the Council on Post-Secondary Education in 1998. POD funding has enabled college growth through the development of degree programs and upgraded building and classroom space, along with technology.

Our Schools

Our college offers unique degree programs and has a reputation for being on the frontline of learning and research in the fields of justice and safety. It is organized into two schools – The School of Justice Studies and the School of Safety, Security, and Emergency Management.

School of Justice Studies

The School of Justice Studies houses one of the largest undergraduate programs at EKU offering majors in criminal justice; police studies; social justice studies and corrections; and juvenile justice studies.

The School of Justice Studies is a School of Distinction and nationally recognized. We have nationally and internationally respected and well known faculty. We are proud of our undergraduate and graduate programs, and offer low student-to-faculty ratios.

The School of Justice Studies provides a stimulating learning environment that promotes respect, tolerance, sensitivity and an open exchange of ideas regarding a wide range of cultural and intellectual differences.

School of Safety, Security, and Emergency Management

Since its inception in the early 1970’s, the programs in the School of Safety, Security, and Emergency Management have been the first choice for students from across the nation and around the globe to prepare them for professional positions as paramedics, industrial safety managers, firefighters, fire inspectors, fire officers, fire protection engineering technologists, fire investigators, bombing scene investigators, private security professionals, risk managers, building code officials, and a wide variety of homeland security and emergency management positions.

SSEM programs contribute significantly to the diversity of the student population with a considerable percentage of all EKU international students enrolled in fire protection, occupational safety, or emergency medical care.

Aviation Briefings

Each semester, we offer multiple Aviation Briefings. These visits offer a comprehensive overview of the Aviation program, a tour of the program’s facilities (including a visit to the airport) and a forum to meet and ask questions of faculty, staff, and current students. Due to space limitations in our facilities, space is very limited at each briefing. We encourage you to register to attend as early as possible and to cancel if you are no longer able to attend to allow space for other students.

September Aviation Briefing Dates:
