These Are the 16 Greatest Fall Candles of All Time

“It smells like a crackling fire, cookies in the oven, a hot cup of tea, and a soft blanket all wrapped together.”

By

I’d like to think I fall far from Christian girl autumn, but there is one thing I know I have in common with the Addisons and Kayleighs of the world: I love fall candles.

A good bonfire and some hot apple cider? Oh, I can’t wait. Historically, I’ve been a summer lover, but this year, the season fell flat for me. Too hot, too humid, too rainy. I’m ready for crisp September days, and I bet you are, too.

If you’re looking to get a jumpstart on decorating for the fall season ahead, you’ve come to the right place. Ahead, I’ve rounded up a curation of my favorite fall candles, plus the scents that customers say they can’t get enough of.

Garden Dreams

Loewe Beetroot Candle

Beetroot Candle

Beets aren’t the first produce item I think of when I hear “autumn,” yet this candle, which comes in a handcrafted vessel, hits all the right notes.

Scent notes: Beetroot essence

Wax type: 100% vegetable wax

Burn time: 30 hours

The Decorative Candle

Dash of Cinnamon

Diptyque Cannelle Cinnamon Candle

Cannelle Cinnamon Candle

Everyone is familiar with Diptyque, but did you know that this cinnamon scent was among the first three candles ever launched by the brand? Rumor has it, it’s what’s always burning at London hotspot Sketch.

Scent notes: Cinnamon bark

Wax type: Mineral (paraffin)

Burn time: 50 hours

Customer review: “This spicy candle is perfect for the fall. The scent is very strong and quite long-lasting.”

Pumpkin Season

Nest New York Pumpkin Chai 3-Wick Candle

Pumpkin Chai 3-Wick Candle

Call me basic but I love a good pumpkin spice! And chai? Don’t get me started...

Scent notes: Wild pumpkin, masala chai, cardamom, ginger, cinnamon

Wax type: Soy

Burn time: 75-100 hours

Customer review: “Wonderfully warm and comforting scent! Not too overbearing and does not smell artificial. I bought a couple extra to use throughout the year!”

Sugar and Spice

Maison Francis Kurkdjian Pain d’Spices Candle

Pain d’Spices Candle

If you’re a fan of Maison Francis Kurkdjian’s Baccarat Rouge perfume, I’d highly recommend checking out the house’s candles, too.

Scent notes: Orange, honey, cinnamon, anise

Wax type: N/A

Burn time: 45 hours

Around the Campfire

Replica By the Fireplace Candle

By the Fireplace Candle

Growing up, I had a campfire-scented candle that my mom let me buy at the mall. To this day, it’s a fragrance that’s close to my heart. Maison Margiela gives similar vibes in an elevated way with this orange-infused rendition.

Scent notes: Orange flower, clove oil, chestnut accord, vanilla accord, pink pepper, guaiac wood, Peru balsam

Wax type: Mineral (paraffin)

Burn time: 40 hours

Customer review: “Pure bliss. As soon as I unboxed this, my whole room was lit with the sweet fragrance. It gave off the scent even without lighting it. It has beautiful aroma like woods and nature. The only thing is I wish there was a lid. Overall, this is the best candle I’ve ever had.”

Unique Scent

D.S. & Durga Breakfast Highlands

Breakfast Highlands

My favorite thing about fragrances is their ability to bring you back to a certain place and time, or maybe somewhere you’ve never been. This candle is just that, designed to remind you of a hyper-specific setting. In this case, it’s breakfast in the Scottish countryside.

Scent notes: Oats, biscuits, hay, scotch marmalade, tea, smoke, heather honey, toast, gorse

Wax type: Soy

Burn time: 60 hours

Customer review: “The aroma is complex and comforting. Very hygge!”

Nostalgic Notes

Byredo Choco Mascarpone

Choco Mascarpone

Take the name of this candle with a grain of salt; most reviewers echo that the nostalgic smell was not what they expected. Imagine: less like mascarpone, more like a chocolate jelly ring and a cup of joe.

Scent notes: Roasted coffee, jasmine, bitter chocolate, patchouli, brown sugar

Wax type: Paraffin blend

Burn time: 60 hours

Customer review: “If you don’t like coffee, you may not like it. To me it’s more of a floral tiramisu scent. The coffee is noticeable. The candle is very elegant and burns long, so it will last me the entire season if I use sparingly.”

Mouth Watering

Literie Hot Roasted Nut Cart

Hot Roasted Nut Cart

As a New Yorker, there’s no shortage of vile odors wafting through these city blocks. The glorious saccharine smell that surrounds Nuts 4 Nuts carts, however, are one of the Big Apple’s greatest charms.

Scent notes: Burnt sugar

Wax type: Soy and coconut blend

Burn time: 50 hours

If you could find a way to bottle up the Parisian mindset and sell it, you’d be set for life. This isn’t exactly that, but it’s pretty close.

Scent notes: Patchouli, amber, lavender

Wax type: Vegetable and tallow

Burn time: 50 hours

Customer review: “This is the scent of a well-kept French home.”

Tried and True

Ralph Lauren Sandalwood

Sandalwood

I love a complicated, layered fragrance with obscure notes just as much as the next person, but sometimes a straightforward candle is the way to go.

Scent notes: Sandalwood

Wax type: Soy

Burn time: 50 hours

Kitchen Essential

Molton Brown Recharge Black Pepper

Recharge Black Pepper

One of the best things about Molton Brown candles is that you can buy refills and reuse the vessel. On another note, reviewers say this peppery scent is especially good for neutralizing cooking smells in the kitchen.

Scent notes: Heated black pepper, coriander, vetiver

Wax type: N/A

Burn time: 60-70 hours

Customer review: “I bought this a month ago, and I love it so much that I’ve been burning it every day! It’s great and so useful that it has a refill. It looks classy, too.”

Skylar Fall Cashmere

Fall Cashmere

I’ve never understood how “cashmere” is meant to conjure a strong olfactory response, honestly. But cozy wool fabric is pivotal to the season.

Scent notes: Cinnamon bark, roasted almond, spiced ginger, clove, matcha, sandalwood, caramelized vanilla, white musk, amber

Wax type: Soy and coconut blend

Burn time: 45 hours

Customer review: “It smells like a crackling fire, cookies in the oven, a hot cup of tea, and a soft blanket all wrapped together. I burn it all weekend to give me that autumn feeling. Comfort!”

Although you might not recognize the name, labdanum is a fairly common natural aromatic that’s often used to create amber scents. Its profile is woody with notes of leather and moss.

Scent notes: Patchouli, labdanum, vanilla

Wax type: Mostly soy with some paraffin

Burn time: 90 hours

Customer review: “Complex and comforting while exquisitely fragrant but not overpowering. Worth every penny. My favorite scent when my soul needs soothing.”

Snif is one of my personal favorite fragrance brands, and its bundle option is top-notch. Choose your three favorites from options like Sweet Ash, Instant Karma, or Off the Grid—because variety is the spice of life.

Scent notes: (Sweet Ash) juniper, fir balsam, tonka, vanilla bean, white moss

Wax type: Soy and vegetable

Burn time: 50 hours

Customer review: “Love at first sniff. Very earthy and campfire-y, but faintly sweet like you can smell the marshmallows roasting.”
