Career Opportunities

We offer many opportunities for a fulfilling career in insurance and business. If any of these positions sound right for you, we encourage you to apply.

Actuarial

Our actuaries use math, probability and statistics to predict the cost of future risks. This helps us solve problems and make sound business decisions. To do this, actuaries use advanced statistical methods, state-of–the-art software and research to increase the accuracy of our rating plans.

To become an actuary, you must pass a series of exams. Erie Insurance will help you in ways such as allowing study time during work hours and advance payment of exam fees and study materials. The types of actuaries we employ include:

  • Casualty actuaries
  • Life actuaries
  • Actuarial analysts

Claims

Our claims professionals come from a range of backgrounds—construction, teaching, law enforcement, engineering, auto repair and even medical professionals. They’re often first on the scene when our customers have a claim, and they play an essential role in making that experience as positive as possible.

Our claims employees work in roles such as:

  • Inside claims representatives, who handle minor property or auto claims, typically over the phone.
  • Claims adjusters, who specialize in one of four areas: property damage, vehicle damage, workers’ compensation, and liability. We also have adjusters that focus on catastrophe and litigation. Most claims adjusters work from home.
  • Claims support staff, who help the claims process run smoothly and answer customer questions.

Customer Service

Our customer service professionals have a variety of work experiences, but they all have one thing in common: providing outstanding service.

Our customer service professionals perform a variety of roles. Some positions require a high level of interaction with customers, agents and fellow employees. Other positions are clerical and require much less direct communication. Some customer service positions require college degrees. Other positions are open to applicants with a high-school diploma or GED. Many employees start careers at ERIE in call center positions such as First Notice of Loss (FNOL) Representatives and Customer Advocates.

Data Science & Analytics

Our data and analytics employees leverage data to inform decision making processes, add business value, and align with strategy across multiple departments.

Most positions require technical degrees or experience in analytics, strategic planning, financial analysis, information systems, etc. Many jobs in data have several levels of career progression, as well as supervisory and management opportunities.

Field Sales

Our sales employees help our Agents grow their businesses. They help maintain effective customer relationships, understand customers’ needs and promote the company’s products and services at agency and community events. Our district sales managers, for example, recruit, train, guide and motivate Agents in matters of sales, underwriting, profitability and agency management.

Some positions may require candidates to have a college degree. Candidates may also need to obtain and maintain property, casualty and life insurance licenses.

Information Technology

Whether you’re a recent college graduate or someone with decades of experience, we have opportunities to match your skill level and interest in IT. Some examples of IT careers at ERIE include:

  • Software Engineer: These experts are IT professionals with a mind for computer engineering and software development. These are the coders who help build applications, connect programs and computer systems, and specialize in data.
  • IT Administrator: These experts keep the lights on and the data flowing at ERIE. An administrator will specialize in one of several domains such as servers, networks, storage, middleware, database, unified communications or monitoring.
  • IT Analyst: It’s hard to narrow down what exactly an IT analyst does. At ERIE, our analysts range from data to systems experts. Each analyst specializes with a unique set of skills and communicates with our software engineers, project managers, business analysts and leaders to connect all the different computer systems and deliver technology solutions for each department.
  • Project Manager: Consider yourself a leader or problem solver? Project managers help plan and monitor company-wide initiatives like software development or network updates.

Most, but not all, IT positions at ERIE require a minimum of a bachelor’s degree. Some positions also require applicants to have specific skills in software development, programming, coding and more. Certain certifications and designations are also sometimes required.

Risk Management

Our risk management employees work in a variety of roles, such as:

  • Underwriter, who determines what risks to accept and helps define the amount of coverage a customer may need. Underwriters work closely with our Agents.
  • Risk control consultant, who provides an overall opinion of risks, prepares evaluation reports and performs accident investigations and consultative services.

Most positions require a bachelor’s degree, preferably in risk management, insurance or safety or related work experience and professional designations. Most jobs in this area also have several levels of career progression, as well as supervisory and management opportunities.
