Working in Erie, Pennsylvania

Erie, Pennsylvania, located on Lake Erie, has a lot to offer whether it’s entertainment, food or culture and is the home of Erie Insurance’s Home Office.

A Great Place to Live and Work

You’ll get the big city feel with the benefits of a small town in Pennsylvania’s only Great Lakes city. Erie is also centrally located and is only a few hours from major cities, including Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Buffalo and Toronto, Canada.

In Erie, there’s always something to do during all four seasons. Popular events include CelebrateErie, a four-day summer street festival, and local heritage festivals that take place throughout the year. There are also plenty of parks and green spaces in the community for everyday use and more than 25 golf courses.

Our city is also a hub for education. There are five local institutions: Penn State Behrend, Edinboro University, Mercyhurst University, Gannon University and Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM). There are many excellent choices, both private and public, for primary and secondary schooling in Erie as well.

Presque Isle

Presque Isle State Park draws more visitors every year than Yellowstone National Park. During the summer, you can explore the 30 miles of freshwater shoreline by hiking, fishing, biking, boating or just enjoying the beach. This “almost island” also features miles of biking and hiking paths. You can watch the Summer Concert Series on Beach 1 or catch the sunset from Beach 6. If you’re feeling adventurous, hike out to Gull Point, Presque Isle’s protected wildlife refuge.

Arts and Culture

The arts are prevalent in downtown Erie. Keep an eye out for the unique bike racks installed downtown and the colorful decorated fish and frog sculptures around town that were commissioned in the past. Both the Warner Theater and Erie Playhouse provide entertainment year-round, as do a number of local bands and dance groups. The Erie Art Museum and Children’s ExpERIEnce Museum are centrally located downtown and offer diverse experiences to museum-goers.

Local Attractions

Other attractions like Waldameer Park and Water World and the Erie Zoo provide fun for all ages. Visit the largest indoor water park east of the Mississippi, Splash Lagoon, and ride any of their seven slides or hop in the wave pool. Erie also has several skating rinks, mini golf courses and a vibrant waterfront to explore. Take a trip down to Presque Isle Downs and Casino for horseraces and gambling.

Sporting Events

If you’re a sports fanatic, you’re in luck. Erie is home to many opportunities to watch, and play, sports. Cheer on the Erie Otters hockey team, or Seawolves baseball team. If you enjoy playing sports, there are plenty of year-round sports leagues to join and golf courses to play in the summer. In the winter, take a short drive to Peek ’n Peak Resort and Spa to experience skiing, snowboarding or tubing.

History

Erie has a wealth of historic landmarks and museums that appeal to all ages and interests. Many are also close to downtown or only a short walk or drive away. You can visit the Erie Maritime Museum, the Firefighters Historical Museum, the Warner Theater and the Perry Monument on Presque Isle, to name a few.

Dining and Nightlife

With our wide selection of dining and nightlife options, there’s always somewhere new to go in Erie. You can’t go wrong with dinner and a show, whether it’s at Keller's: A Modern Magic  and Comedy Club or the Erie Insurance Arena, which hosts a number of big name performers every year.
