After a four-year break, the Hungarian Charity Service of the Order of Malta is once again holding a five-day youth camp at Lake Balaton for people with various physical disabilities.

Each of the 105 young people has a volunteer by their side at all times as they enjoy swimming and the various other activities on offer.

"For us, Lake Balaton is the Riviera, so we always come here. There are bathing programme and sailing. Many people get into the lake for the first time in their lives," says organiser Alpár Lázár.

Other activities the campers can enjoy include a sports exhibition featuring para-athletes, alongside a funfair with bull riding, skill games, and target shooting.

There are even special games where they can use their mind to move balls and race cars.

Richárd Tóth is on his sixth camp and says what is great is that there are no barriers and anyone can make friends.

"The best thing is that here, disabled and non-disabled people can experience different things together," he says.

And they can finally party together. During the day, the campers sing retro hits on the sailboat and in the evening they have a beer or two during the concerts.

The whole point of the camp is to bring disabled and non-disabled people together to have fun, and to show youngsters how hard it can be living in a wheelchair.
