Penny Lancaster admits 'ups and downs' with Rod Stewart's children
Rod Stewart is known for being a big family man, as his wife Penny Lancaster opened up on how they have dealt with challenges over the years.
Sir Rod Stewart and his wife, Penny Lancaster, have shared a happy marriage for the last 17 years - but Penny, 53, recently admitted that it doesn't come without challenges.
The superstar couple share sons Alastair, 18, and Aiden, 13, together with Rod having six children to four other mothers. He is also dad to four daughters — Sarah, 60, Kimberly, 44, Ruby, 37, and Renee, 32 — and two other sons — Sean, 43 and Liam, 29.
Rod, 79, is also a grandfather to Kimberly's daughter, Delilah; Ruby's son, Otis; and Liam's son, Louie. He previously told People Magazine that he has to be "several different fathers" due to the big age gaps between his kids.
He said: "You really have to treat all of them as individuals with individual problems. As a dad, I've learned to listen and not blow my top." He added that "seeing all his kids and my wife with big smiles on their faces" is what "makes him happiest".
Speaking to Hello! Magazine, Penny admitted that they enjoy family get-togethers for big celebrations, but it can be difficult. She said "We like to take every opportunity to bring the family, children, and grandchildren together.

"Part of the family lives in America, part in England, so it requires a lot of planning, but at least two or three times a year, the whole clan comes together."
Continuing to speak about their family life, she added: "There are the usual family ups and downs. You have to use a lot of diplomacy, be patient and understanding.
"In the end it's worth it because you experience this wonderful bond that only a family can have. The epicentre of it is ultimately Rod: he's the Rodfather."

Explaining how she grew close to Rod's six children when she first met him, Penny explained: "I knew that I had to be honest with them, too, so that they would accept me. I couldn't pretend to please every single one of them, so I was just myself. It took a while, but they came to trust me."
Sir Rod met Penny back in 1999 when he agreed to let her take photographs of him on tour, and a romance soon blossomed between the pair who began a seven-year courtship.
The superstar has been married two times before Penny to Alana Stewart in 1979 and model Rachel Hunter in 1990.
