Prince Harry's chief executive for his Invictus Games Foundation has stepped down after a decade in the role just a week after the duke was slammed for accepting a controversial military award in the US.

The Duke of Sussex said he was "immensely grateful" to his "friend" Dominic Reid for transforming the Paralympic-style sporting competition for wounded, injured and sick military personnel and veterans from an ambitious idea into a global movement.

Harry, who founded the Invictus Games in 2014, said in a statement: "I am immensely grateful to my friend, Dominic, whose dedication and leadership transformed the Invictus Games from an ambitious idea to an internationally recognised movement. His tireless efforts over the past decade have supported thousands of wounded, injured and sick service personnel and veterans through sports rehabilitation, helping to showcase their unparalleled strength and contribution to society."

Mr Reid's resignation comes a week after the prince was heavily criticised for accepting the prestigious Pat Tillman Award for Service at this year's ESPYs - given by sports channel ESPN to individuals in the sporting world who have made significant contributions to the lives of others.

The former soldier described it a "privilege to work closely" with Harry and said of his resignation: "[It is] the time for someone new to take this vital movement forward into its second vigorous decade. Once a member of the Invictus family, you never leave. His [Prince Harry's] concept, passion, and drive have been instrumental in our success, in particular by focusing attention on mental health in sports rehabilitation."

An earlier version of this story used the following headline 'Prince Harry reeling after key ally quits amid backlash over award'. This has been corrected because there was no evidence that the Duke of Sussex was 'reeling' following the departure of Mr Reid.

Princess Kate's heartfelt admission to Queen Elizabeth about family life

The devoted Princess of Wales normally carries out over a hundred engagements per year whilst parenting Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, eight, and Prince Louis, six, but she once had a heartfelt chat with Queen Elizabeth II about balancing work and family life.

When their eldest child was born in 2013, Kate and William were said to be against hiring additional help, but the royal duo eventually hired a permanent nanny, Maria Teresa Turrion Borrallo, who had trained at Norland College.

Royal expert, Katie Nicholl, explained Kate had opened up to the late Queen to talk about motherhood. She explained that Kate wanted to be a "hands on parent" so initially held off from hiring.

The 'real reason' why Meghan Markle won't return to the UK revealed by royal expert

Meghan Markle's decision not to come back to the UK to support Prince Harry at the Invictus Games 10th anniversary commemorative service in May comes down to an emotional reason, a royal correspondent has claimed.

There had been much speculation earlier in the year that the Duchess of Sussex would accompany her husband at St Paul's Cathedral, but it seems she was very fearful of the reception she would receive.

Jennie Bond told OK! magazine at the time: "I don't think her presence would make any reconciliation moves easier. I think she would, rightly, be nervous about the reception she might get from any public gathered outside the cathedral."

Queen Camilla's reaction to Prince Harry's brutal 'wicked stepmother' comment in Spare

Queen Camilla had a brave reaction to the "wicked stepmother" comment made by Prince Harry in his bombshell memoir, Spare.

Harry released his memoir last January, with the read featuring various attacks towards his family - in particular Prince William and the Queen.

While the Queen was reportedly left "hurt" by Harry's comments, the 77-year-old put on a brave face and made sure to continue public duty.

Writing in his new book 'Charles III: New King. New Court. The Inside Story', author Robert Hardman said that the Queen "was content to let it pass".

Prince Harry and William have 'hurdles' to overcome before patching things up

There are major hurdles to overcome before Prince William and Prince Harry can patch things up between them, an expert claims. Since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped down as senior working royals in 2020 and quit duties, the two brothers have been at loggerheads.

This also follows the high-profile interview with TV host, Oprah Winfrey, regarding intimate details of their time within the Royal Family where they also accused unidentified members of the Firm of making a remark about the colour of their son's skin before he was born.

Accusations also continued in a docuseries titled 'Harry & Meghan' aired on streaming giant, Netflix, and in Harry's bombshell memoir Spare, both released following the late Queen's passing and the commencement of King Charles' reign.

Princess Anne's reason for wearing gloves in blistering summer heat explained

Princess Anne is gradually making her return to royal duties, as she opened a new A&E unit at Worcestershire Royal Hospital this afternoon.

Royal fans were no doubt delighted that the Princess Royal appears to have made a full recovery following her hospitalisation last month for a concussion and minor injuries.

Anne was dressed today in a white and blue floral dress, paired with a dark cropped blazer and her trademark gloves in navy blue, despite the hot July weather.

Her accessories may seem unusual, but her reason for wearing gloves while out and about is not about being hot or cold but rather for hygienic purposes.

Princess Kate's secret meaning behind Wimbledon style choice revealed

The Princess of Wales sparked a royal fan frenzy last weekend after she stepped out in a stunning purple outfit during the Wimbledon finals and according to a fashion expert, there was a secret meaning behind her style choice.

Princess Kate was the epitome of elegance as she donned a lilac midi dress by Safiyaa in what was her second public appearance since announcing she was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year.

She paired the bold garment with Camilla Elphick's Lucia slingbacks in tan, a pair of gold hoop earrings by Pariah, Halcyon Day's Hammered Torque Forget-Me-Not & Gold bangle and the same brand's Salamander Torque Forget-Me-Not & Gold bangle.

Now a style specialist has claimed there may be two reasons behind Princess Kate's choice of a dress for this year's Wimbledon finals.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle labelled 'the uninvitables' by pals leaving couple fuming

EXCLUSIVE: Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been given the title of "the uninvitables" by friends after being snubbed from a number of key social events in recent years.

According to a source close to the couple's London set, talk amongst high society is that the Sussexes are being deliberately left off guest lists for fear that they too could be tarred with the same brush.

"Harry and Meghan are being left off guest lists for friend's weddings and other events due to their estrangement from the Royal Family," said the source.

"There is genuine fear that if the Sussexes are invited to a wedding or a christening, it could leave that family excluded from the social circuit which would be one of the biggest faux pas imaginable."

Prince Harry and Meghan are just 'background noise' to Prince William and Kate, says aide

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are "background noise" compared to the Prince and Princess of Wales, blasted one royal expert.

Speaking to Closer Magazine, former royal butler Paul Burrell - who worked for the Royal Family for more than 10 years - has sent a stark warning to Harry and Meghan.

The former royal butler claims that Prince William, 42, won't take any more of the Sussexes' "cheap shots from across the pond" and that the pair have become nothing more than "background noise".

Princess Kate makes 'bold' move as she prepares for major role

The Princess of Wales is slowly transitioning her wardrobe as she prepares for the next major chapter in her life - that of being the future Queen, a fashion expert has claimed.

Princess Kate has been wowing royal fans with her wardrobe ever since she came into the spotlight during the early days of her relationship with Prince William.

Her impact on the fashion industry was very obvious from early on, when, after the official engagement announcement to the Prince of Wales, her now-famous dark blue Issa wrap dress was sold out in minutes, marking the beginning of the "Kate effect."

But it looks like Kate has slowly started shifting towards "bolder" looks which are reminiscent of the late Queen Elizabeth and according to one style expert, there could be a good reason why.

Meghan Markle's neighbour takes subtle dig as Duchess makes huge career move

Meghan Markle has suffered a rather awkward embarrassment as it has emerged that an online seller has been using her brand name, American Riviera Orchard, to flog adult items.

The news was reported in the Montecito Journal, which details the exploits of Meghan and Prince Harry's neighbourhood and some of its most famous residents.

The online shop has used Meghan's brand name to sell anti-monarchy products, including an adult colouring book entitled Working Class Royalty for £7.75 ($9.99).

The site launched after the Duchess of Sussex announced her new range earlier this spring, although there is still no word yet on when her products will be available for the public to buy.

Meghan Markle 'not interested' in late Queen's 'kind' offer when she joined Royal Family

Meghan Markle had no interest in the late Queen Elizabeth II's "kind" offer when she officially joined the Royal Family, claims former royal butler Paul Burrell.

The late Queen is said to have highly respected Meghan, who married Prince Harry in 2018, and wanted to make sure she knew that it was ok if she wanted to "continue" with her acting career.

According to Mr Burrell, the late monarch candidly spoke to Meghan about her career and was "very kind" to her - but the 42-year-old thought it was more important to focus on being a royal.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle suffer fresh blow to Netflix deal following Emmy snub

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have received yet another blow over their deal with Netflix as the duke's Heart of Invictus docuseries failed to get a nomination for the 76th Emmy Awards.

Whilst the consideration period for the Emmys spanned from June 1, 2023, to May 31 2024, Heart of Invictus did not secure a nomination among any categories.

Meanwhile, David and Victoria Beckham's eponymous documentary for Netflix was nominated for five awards.

Prince Harry misses Princess Kate the 'sister he never had'

Prince Harry once described Princess Kate as "the sister I've never had and always wanted", but a royal expert has since claimed the Duke of Sussex is now full of regret over the state of their relationship.

Kate and Harry have been estranged ever since the latter moved to the US with his wife Meghan Markle, and he wrote many negative things about her and Prince William in his memoir Spare.

Royal author Tom Quinn told The Mirror: "He really misses that warm, uncomplicated relationship, and he is torn between loyalty to his wife and regret about the loss of the woman he was so close to. Losing Kate was Harry's second great loss after losing his mother."

Rare boost to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle as 'perfect route' back to Firm revealed

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle may not be finished as royals, according to leading commentators, after claims there are two people who could help get them back into the Firm: their children, Archie and Lilibet.

GB News's Patrick Christys suggested to royal expert Kinsey Schofield that the California-based couple could "surely use the grandkids as a way back" into the picture.

The US pundit agreed that the children would be a "perfect" way to bridge the gap between the Sussexes, the King and Queen and the Prince and Princess of Wales.

Inside Zara Tindall and Prince William’s close bond during ‘awful year’

As Prince William continues to support both his father King Charles and his wife Kate, Princess Of Wales in their respective cancer battles, the future monarch has amped up his duties in order to help take the strain off his poorly family.

Yet while a busy schedule of royal engagements, doting dad duties and charitable commitments continues to keep the Prince occupied, one huge source of support that has helped to lessen the strain is his cousin Zara Tindall.

Ever since infancy, the pair have always been close, with one insider even likening their relationship to the “big sister William never had.”

Both the Prince and Zara, who is the daughter of Princess Anne and ex-husband Captain Mark Phillips, grew up alongside each other, and through much of their childhood were virtually inseparable, often attending many similar events together along with their respective siblings Prince Harry and Peter Phillips.

Among them was UK Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner, who was overheard telling the monarch that England's loss in the final was "agonising".

The King agreed, before sharing his thoughts about Mr Southgate - saying he feels "so sorry" for him.
