Jeremy Vine viewers were surprised when they tuned in to Monday's edition to see that the broadcaster had been replaced by Vanessa Feltz. Introducing the show she gave no explanation for his absence other than to say she would be there all week.

Vanessa was joined by podcast host Gemma Forte and TalkTV presenter Cristo Foufas to discuss what was happening in the world. Topics under discussion on the opening show of the week included a chat about whether Keir Starmer has filled people with joy and they also asked if football is coming home following England's surprise change of fortune in the Euros.

Fans of the show had a lot of thoughts about the shake-up and took to X to share them. @sturgess_steve enquired: "Where's Vine, still trying to recover from Thursday's GE result. #jeremyvine."

@Scarfer13 opined: "Jeremy Vine has more holidays than Judith Chalmers. #JeremyVine." @marjieN was not on board for the change writing: "Vanessa Felts? What ? Why? #JeremyVine."

Meanwhile @ScullyScully73 joked: "WTF...!!! Turned over and it's the Vanessa show??" @suzysasha was enjoying his replacement writing: "Better than Jeremy."

At the end of May, it was announced that Jeremy is making a huge career move away from his daily show.

The star revealed his obsession with Agatha Christie inspired his first murder mystery novel Murder On Line One.

It will be published by HarperCollins next year and focuses on a Devon-based local radio host turned sleuth Edward Temmis.

The first book, part of a series, follows Edward as he meets Stevie, a woman whose gran was a devoted listener but recently died in suspicious circumstances.

Martha Ashby, of Harper Fiction, said: “Jeremy’s book has it all – a clever, funny, characterful murder mystery with a great sense of humour and remarkable emotional depth.”

Jeremy, who currently features a picture of the cover image of the tome on his social media, said as a boy he had read all of Dame Agatha’s detective novels by the age of 18.

“She has inspired me since I first read her at 11, I don’t know why I waited 47 years to dive into the world she created in my mind,” he said of Agatha.

The Jeremy Vine show is on Channel 5 daily at 9.15am.
