Our work covers monetary, financial, and international issues ranging from the optimal inflation target to FinTech lending to global banking. We also focus on labor, housing, health care, and education in the Midwest.

Current Analysis

Through its economic researchers and policy professionals, the Chicago Fed seeks to understand the regional and national economy and the challenges and decisions that influence it. Coming from academia, banking, community organizations, and other realms, Chicago Fed research and policy staff work toward key Bank goal: Foster economic opportunity by advancing a healthy, inclusive economy and promoting a trusted financial system. Chicago Fed experts collect, shape, and share multiple streams of economic data. Among them are the Beige Book, data series chronicling financial conditions, and the searchable Local Economic Snapshot.

Academic Research Projects

The Chicago Fed runs special projects and conducts ongoing research into topics including automotive manufacturing, insurance, financial markets, replacement of lead water-service pipes, and agriculture. From seventh district regional research, economic mobility, and community development to broader microeconomic, macroeconomic, and financial research - the Chicago Fed research and policy staff work towards fostering economic opportunity by advancing a healthy, inclusive economy and promoting a trusted financial system.
