Winter Festivities at Fernbank Museum

With Atlanta approaching freezing temperatures and the hustle and bustle of the city increases as residents indulge in gift-shopping, it can become difficult to find things to do this holiday season that’ll keep you warm, aren’t hectic and most importantly bring in the holiday cheer. Fernbank Museum is the solution! We have loads of festive fun things to do starting with the holiday edition of Fernbank After Dark: Cocktails and Candy Canes!

Escape the holiday chaos and ring in your holiday season with a festive fun-filled night featuring after-hours access to our exhibits, the captivating lights of WildWoods: AGLOW, holiday-themed activities, music and so much more! PLUS, it wouldn’t be a party if we didn’t have themed COCKTAILS available!

Fernbank After Dark: Cocktails and Candy Canes is a time for adults to unwind, connect and celebrate. Join us on Friday, Dec. 8, 2023, from 7pm-11pm for a unique 21 and up experience.

If you aren’t able to make it out to this month’s Fernbank After Dark, we have put together a list of cocktails to make at home, a DIY holiday experiment and exhibits to explore for the next time you visit Fernbank!

Specialty Cocktails to enjoy at our upcoming Fernbank After Dark or make at home!

  1. Mistletoe Martini

Ingredients:

  • 5 oz Cranberry Vodka
  • 1 oz Cranberry Juice
  • 75 oz Elderflower Liqueur

Instructions:

Combine all ingredients into a shaker with ice, then strain into a glass with or without ice.

 DIY Fun Holiday Activity!

Wanna build a snowman? Though it may not be snowing in Atlanta, don't miss out on a chance to make your own! Test out this cool experiment and make your own snow with two simple ingredients that can be found in your home —baking soda and shaving cream!

Baking soda mixed with shaving cream creates a mixture that is cold to the touch. This is due to an endothermic reaction which occurs when something absorbs heat from its surroundings.

Instructions:

You need equal parts baking soda to shaving cream. Any brand works!

Mix the baking soda and shaving cream together to make a snow-like mixture. Form three spheres to assemble into your snowman!

To get a more snow-like texture that can be packed together, just add water. For instance, if you do 1 cup of shaving cream to 1 cup of baking soda, stir in about 5 teaspoons of water a little at a time.
