Publix Super Markets is the largest employee-owned supermarket chain in the U.S. Founded in 1930 by George W Jenkins, Publix operates 1,288 retail food supermarkets throughout Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Alabama, Tennessee and Virginia. Chairman Ed Crenshaw is the grandson of the founder. Publix processes its own dairy, bakery and deli products and acts as a distributor for all of its stores.
