Troopers are investigating a deadly crash involving a car and a pedestrian Thursday morning on I-5 in Everett.

EVERETT, Wash. - Troopers are investigating a deadly crash involving multiple cars and a pedestrian Thursday morning on I-5 in Everett.

Washington State Patrol Trooper Kelsey Harding said the crash happened in the southbound lanes of I-5 near State Route 526.

According to a release from Washington State Patrol, the pedestrian fell from the SR 526 overpass onto southbound I-5 lanes, and was struck by multiple cars. Troopers are still investigating the cause of this incident.

The pedestrian was identified as a 52-year-old Mukilteo man. He died at the scene.

The Washington State Department of Transportation said backups reached about 10 miles, as the roadway was blocked for four and a half hours. There were also backups on Highway 2, State Route 204 and State Route 9.

All southbound I-5 lanes are now back open.
