Man arrested after throwing fish tank onto I-5, assaulting trooper in Seattle

A man was arrested after he threw various items onto northbound I-5 in Seattle, including a fish tank, and later hit a Washington State trooper with a pole, according to the Seattle Police Department.

At around 5:20 p.m. on Friday, a man in his 50s allegedly threw various items off the Boren Avenue overpass onto the northbound lanes of I-5. Seattle Police say one of those items was a fish tank.

At least one vehicle was struck by the items, but no injuries were reported. Several I-5 lanes were blocked off soon after.

According to SPD, a Washington State Patrol (WSP) trooper attempted to contact the suspect and was assaulted with a pole. WSP then deployed a taser, but was unsuccessful.

SPD negotiators were called out to the scene due to the uncooperative suspect. The SWAT team later took control of the scene.

Seattle Police said the suspect was also armed with a knife and pitchfork at one point.

At around 9:07 p.m., the suspect was arrested by SWAT. He is now in the custody of WSP.

The Olive Way off-ramp and right two lanes of northbound I-5 were blocked for several hours as law enforcement worked to arrest the suspect. They are now being reopened.
