6 displaced after Las Vegas home catches fire from illegal fireworks

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) - Six people were displaced from a home that caught fire due to illegal fireworks, according to Clark County Fire Department.

The fire was reported around 3:33 a.m. Friday at 4959 Lana Drive near Flamingo Road and Boulder Highway. CCFD said the occupants of the home heard a loud boom before smelling and seeing smoke.

Arriving firefighters said they saw heavy smoke coming from the roof of the two-story home. CCFD said they attempted an interior attack, but the heavy fire in the attack forced them to withdraw and then attacking the roof fire.

CCFD said they believe the fire started due to an illegal firework on the roof. All six residents were displaced due to the fire.

TWO OTHER FIRES DUE TO ILLEGAL FIREWORKS

CCFD said it responded to two other structure fires on July 4 that they believe were started due to illegal fireworks.

The first was at 9:54 p.m. at 4291 Skywalker Ave., near Russell Road and Lamb Boulevard. Firefighters said they found a car fully engulfed in flames in the driveway near the home, which was close to spreading to the home. Firefighters were able to prevent the fire from spreading to the house.

CCFD said there was also fuel running down the driveway that caught fire. The fuel caused a vehicle in the street to also catch fire.

Occupants of the home said they heard noises outside the home and found neighbors attempting to put out the fire. CCFD said they believe an illegal firework landed beneath the car in the driveway, causing the fire. There were no injuries.

CCFD also responded to 2141 Geronimo Way, near Eastern and Desert Inn, around 10:33 p.m. First responders found the roof of a shed on fire, very close to a home. The fire spread to the eaves of the home and a nearby carport. CCFD said this fire was also likely due to an illegal firework.

No one was displaced and no injuries were reported due to the fire.
