Updated

We're still far out from October, but we might have gotten some playoff previews this past week. The American League's two best teams battled in New York, the leaders in the AL Central and AL West squared off in Cleveland and the Atlanta Braves won an interesting series against the Yankees.

Moreover, there were several surprising results involving some of baseball's best teams.

Through all of the chaos, one team made it through the week looking like No. 1 overall. So, who was it?

Let's take a look at my newest top 10, with World Series odds via FanDuel Sportsbook.

10. Boston Red Sox (42-36, LW unranked)
World Series odds: +7500

The Red Sox keep on rolling. After taking four of six from the Phillies and Yankees, the Red Sox won five of six this past week, including a sweep of the Toronto Blue Jays. Jarren Duran has suddenly emerged as one of the best outfielders in all of baseball. He stole three more bases and hit a pair of homers this past week, giving him seven on the season to go with a .288/.352/.483 slash line. Tanner Houck is still shoving, too. He's 7-5 with a 2.14 ERA this season.

9. Minnesota Twins (43-35, LW 9)
World Series odds: +2200

Royce Lewis looks like he's becoming baseball's next big star. The third baseman had another big week, hitting three more homers to give him 10 on the season. Mind you, he's played just 18 games. While injuries have plagued his young career, the sample size is big enough to confidently say: When he plays, he rakes. Pablo López rebounded from a rough patch with 14 strikeouts over eight scoreless innings against the Oakland Athletics.

8. Milwaukee Brewers (45-33, LW 7)
World Series odds: +3000

The Brew Crew avoided a four-game sweep against the San Diego Padres on Sunday, going 3-4 over the past week. Their offense finally cooled off, but they got strong performances from Freddy Peralta and Tobias Myers on the mound. Myers allowed just one run over 11.1 innings in two starts, while Peralta pitched six shutout innings against the Angels.

7. Seattle Mariners (45-35, LW 6)
World Series odds: +1700

The Mariners were humbled a bit while losing two of three to the Guardians and Marlins. Bryan Woo had his worst start of the season in what's otherwise been a strong year. For a second consecutive start, Logan Gilbert pitched eight innings of shutout ball. Pitching is what's kept this club atop the AL West for much of the season and it will have to remain exceptional for Seattle to get back to the postseason.

6. Atlanta Braves (43-32, LW 10)
World Series odds: +900

The Braves are continuing to stay afloat despite the injuries to their two top players. They took two of three from the Yankees in the Bronx over the weekend after sweeping the Detroit Tigers. Marcell Ozuna keeps crushing homers, but give credit to Atlanta's pitching staff. Chris Sale and Max Fried are performing to their star levels, and Reynaldo López is a strong (if unexpected) NL Cy Young contender. He's allowed just two runs over 17 innings pitched in three starts this month.

5. Los Angeles Dodgers (48-31, LW 4)
World Series odds: +280

The Dodgers entered last week learning that they'd be without Mookie Betts for at least six weeks. They were able to withstand the loss this past week because of their other MVPs. Shohei Ohtani has hit four homers in five games and Freddie Freeman continues to be as steady as it gets. The starting pitching has also been stellar, with Tyler Glasnow (8-5, 2.88 ERA) playing the part of the ace they acquired him to be and Gavin Stone (8-2, 3.04 ERA) coming up clutch amid injuries to several starters.

4. Baltimore Orioles (49-28, LW 2)
World Series odds: +950

Baltimore was on the wrong end of one of the more surprising series results so far this season, getting swept by Houston over the weekend. The Astros scored 27 runs in those three games. This was directly after the Orioles took two of three from the Yankees in the Bronx. The depth of the Birds' lineup was on full display in their 17-5 win Wednesday, as Adley Rutschman, Gunnar Henderson and Ryan Mountcastle each had three hits.

3. Cleveland Guardians (49-26, LW 5)
World Series odds: +2200

Don't overthink it: The Guardians are one of the best teams in baseball. They followed their series win over the mariners by sweeping the Blue Jays. Josh Naylor is still crushing the ball, hitting two homers in a game against Seattle and then another one versus Toronto on Sunday. And then there's Steven Kwan, whose batting average briefly reached .400 for the season. He's hitting .444 with four home runs in June alone.

2. New York Yankees (52-28, LW 1)
World Series odds: +450

The Yankees have cooled off, losing seven of their past 10 games and four of their past five series. But all of those series losses came against other teams in the top 10. Giancarlo Stanton was the latest Yankees hitter to hit the injured list, thinning the lineup depth around Juan Soto and Aaron Judge even further. Gerrit Cole looked good in his season debut this past week. We'll see if Carlos Rodón's past two outings are just a blip.

1. Philadelphia Phillies (51-26, LW 3)
World Series odds: +550

The Phillies reclaimed the top spot after winning four of six against the Padres and Diamondbacks. Zack Wheeler, Aaron Nola and Ranger Suárez all turned in quality starts this past week, while Bryce Harper hit three more home runs. Moreover, Trea Turner returned from injury and didn't appear to miss a beat, hitting .304 with a home run in his first six games back.

Out: Kansas City Royals (42-37, LW 8)
