Nazir Unmanned Ground Vehicle (UGV)

On 18 April 2015 select units from Iran's Armed Forces held parades across the country to mark the National Army Day. The Nazir robotic robot was displayed with portable anti-aircraft missile complexes during the military parade of the Iranian Army Day. The Nazir is a remote-controlled, four-wheel-drive robot. It can reportedly be programmed for reconnaissance and combat missions within an operational range of 2 kilometers. The meaning of the name Nazir is: Luminously beautiful; observer.

This new UGV seems to be very similar to the Phantom 1 developed by the Ukrainian defense industry. During the parade, the new Iranian-made UGV was armed with two MANPADS (Man-portable air-defense systems) launchers mounted on the top of the vehicle. Brigadier General Ahmad Reza Pourdastan claimed that remote-controlled robots equipped with missiles or machine guns would accompany Iranian troops in the near future. During Irans Armed Forces Day that year, an unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) called Nazir was on display. Iran, like many other countries, is investing in the development of various unmanned military systems. The Iranian defense establishment probably sees such systems as mission multipliers, highlighting two major advantages: saving soldiers lives and making military missions more effective. In this context, Iranian developments are broadly similar to those taking place around the world. Various militaries are fielding unmanned systems for surveillance, intelligence, logistics, or attack missions to make their forces or campaigns more effective. In fact, the Iranian military has been successfully using Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs).

Iranian videos clarify that this vehicle is teleoperated rather than autonomous. The commands are sent over to the UGV remotely using wireless communication technologies, while it transfers live video feedback to the user. The UGV transmits video signals from the on-board camera to obtain navigation commands.
