Lovelight #2

In the Weeds

Rate this book
Evelyn St. James isn’t the kind of woman you forget.

Beckett Porter certainly hasn’t. One incredible weekend in Maine, and he’s officially a man distracted. He’s not unfamiliar with hot and heavy flings. He knows how it goes. But Evie wove some sort of magic over him during their tumble in the sheets. He can’t stop thinking about her laugh. Her hand pressed flat against his chest. Her smiling mouth at his neck.

Also, her eyes. And her legs.

So when she suddenly appears on his farm as part of a social media contest, he is … confused. He had no idea that the sweet and sexy woman he met at a bar is actually a global phenomenon: social media influencer Evelyn St. James. When she disappears again, Beckett resolves to finally forget her and move on.

But Evelyn St. James has a problem.

Feeling disconnected from her work and increasingly unhappy, she’s trying to find her way back to something real. She returns to the last place she was happy, Lovelight Farms and the tiny town of Inglewild.

It has absolutely nothing to do with the hot farmer she spent two incredible nights with.

Nothing at all.

In The Weeds is a sweet and steamy second-chance romance about finding your happiness. It features a grumpy farmer, a no-nonsense social media influencer, a small town of busybodies, and four very cute kittens. In The Weeds is a standalone romance and is part of the Lovelight series.

In the Weeds (Lovelight #2)
by B.K. Borison, narrated by Pippa Jayne, Dane Anderson

There must be something in the water at Lovelight Farms and the surrounding little town. As with the first book, once again we have a good looking, intelligent couple being all dumb and idiotic when it comes to their romance that they are ignoring is a romance. Let us roll our eyes. But this series, this book, is so charming and cute that I can't help wanting to read the next one.

Rural life is my thing and this little town is as big city as I want to get. It has it all, a phone chain where gossip flies, unintentionally funny folks, people that will help out at the drop of a hat whether help is wanted or not. No one gets to fly under the radar. Grumpy, people and sound adverse farmer Beckett Porter certainly tries to do so but instead everyone knows his business and the more he tries to avoid his women admirers the more some of them try to throw themselves at his feet.

Social media influencer Evelyn St. James met Beckett two unforgettable (for both of them) nights, then ran into him again accidently where they proceeded to tiptoe around their past meeting, and then again when she runs away from her overwhelming career choices to rethink things. She runs to the last place she was happy, Lovelight Farms, location of her last run in with Beckett. She is really running to Beckett but won't admit it to herself or him. He's not been able to forget her for one day so this throws both Beckett and Evelyn into angst-ville since they won't talk about how they really feel about their non relationship and won't address what they both really want from each other.

The books in this series are more open door than I prefer but the story is so cute, sugary sweet more often than not, that I still like to read about these silly idiots. The couples always seem to know they are romance idiots but can't seem to help themselves. I know which couple will be the next couple not to know it and I look forward that that book, too.

When he's a CAT DAD 🧎🏼‍♀️😍🐈😺 🔝

Nice guys simply do it better. This was such a cute small town romance, a perfect light read for every season! First things first, this book is just a little over 300 pages long, and all I can say is THANK GOD. I've really had enough of romance books with little to no plotline that are 500+ pages long (we all know heheh). This contained everything, them meeting, time apart, getting back together, the banter, the (infamous) 3rd act breakup (which never hits but it is what it is) and it fit the 300 page mark. CONGRATULATIONS! The writing wasn't anything worth raving about, but it wasn't bad either. Certain scenes were so funny, screenshots were made AND SAVED!

CHARACTERS were my favorite part of this book
BECKETT was the nicest sweetest BEST man I've seen in a romance book lately. He was caring, he was hard-working, I don't want romance if it's not like this. He's THE REASON why you should pick this book up right about now! I feel like we're for some reason so accustomed to straight up RUDE men in popular fiction that every nice act feels like something revolutionary, even though it's bare minimum. Men written by women don't seem so written by women anymore, or is it just me? Well, B.K.Borison said HOLD MY BEER, I'm here to change the world of romance books, and she did THAT with Beckett. From the very first page, my knees were weak (and not from the bacteria I've caught a few days ago). He didn't do a single bad thing, he cooked, he cleaned, he farmed, he had three (can't be bothered to check if I'm right) cats, his sister tattooed him, he leaves cute notes and doodles, he adopted a DUCK (or he didn't iykyk heheh). I had no choice but to fall in love.

EVELYN is our female protagonist. She's a famous social media influencer and she was everything your typical influencers aren't. And by that I mean, A WONDERFUL PERSON. This woman was so kind, so gentle, so dreamy, I loved her so much. She had this beautiful chemistry with Beckett, it was all hearts and bows!

This book was spicy, but the spice wasn't graphic. It was even poetic in a certain way, and I liked that very much. We knew what's where iykyk, BUT, the focus was on EMOTIONS. AND IT DID HIT MY FRIENDS. IT . DID. HIT.

The biggest issue I had with this book was the lack of plot. The pacing wasn't bad or slow, but you can't really pace a plot if there isn't any plot. The only plot point was that 3rd act breakup, and like I said, I hate that trope, it always lowers the rating for me. If it weren't for that, this would've been a 4 star book, not 5 stars simply because it wasn't very memorable. It's gonna stick in my head as something CUTE but not much more than that, I probably won't remember anything that happened in 3-5 business days.

But still, I would recommend reading this. It's fairly short, you can eat it up in one sitting, the characters are great, the chemistry is great, it's light-hearted, it's a series of interconnected standalones, you can boost your reading challenge with this in no time!

B.K. Borison, you'll be seeing more of my face in you other book reviews soon! (and I mean that in a non-threatening way)💕💕

In The Weeds is a sweet and steamy second chance romance. Beckett and Evie journey to finding their happy is so endearing, precious and special that it fills up your heart, makes it soar, soothes it and embraces it in the most comforting hug ever. My heart just feels like it has been filled with happiness, the purest of joy, soulful warmth and unconditional love. The spice. Chief kiss* The scene when Beckett warms Evie in front of the fire up after she falls in the lake. That scene was everything.

Beckett - Bearded tattooed farmer man – “did you find your happy today "

That might. MIGHT. JUST MIGHT be better than Hades “Are you well?” ugh… If you know you know!

The stars. The oak trees. The tattoos. The earplugs.

Quotes:

“Did you find your happy today?”

“But that’s the thing about happiness, I guess. You can show whatever you want to the world and not feel a lick of it inside yourself.”

“It’s okay to want different things,” she says. “People change. You’re allowed to change. Doing less doesn’t make you less.”

I’m still smiling, breathless, when I finally make it to the bathroom. I stop and stare at myself in the mirror—my flushed cheeks and a grin that makes my face almost unrecognizable.

“I didn’t realize falling in love could be so simple. Bacon in a takeout container and earplugs in the bottom of a handbag.”

“If you think love means having to sacrifice bits of yourself to make someone else happy,” he explains. “If you’re afraid to ask after what you want. Maybe I did something wrong.”

“Sometimes love is greedy, kiddo.” My dad sets his mouth in a firm line. “Sometimes it’s a little bit selfish, too."

Christmas in July

I absolutely adored Stella and Luka's story, and friends to lovers is very much not my romance trope of choice. As someone that very much crushed on Beckett in the background of the first book, I expected more from his story. One night stand to lovers, this is not. I mean, it is, but it mostly became miscommunication, which I hate with a fiery passion. Beckett, my sexy tattooed man, get it together.

So if you're following along my holiday theme, it's not going very well. I am very much not in the holiday spirit. If you're playing 2023 Ripped Bodice Bingo, this entire series works for farm and protagonist smells like citrus.

Omggg this was literally sm fun!! 🤭🤭 The PERFECT cutesy little romance- it was super sweet, but also had lots of tension, great characters and a fun small town setting 💛💛

“It’s okay if it takes you some time to find it again. And it’s okay if you find it just to lose a bit of it here and there. That’s the beauty of it, yeah? It comes and goes. Not every day is a happy one and it shouldn’t be. It’s in the trying, I think.”

In the Weeds is the second book in the Lovelight series, following Beckett and Evelyn. They shared one incredible weekend together in Maine, but when Beckett woke up, Evie was gone and neither expected to ever see the other again. So when Evie suddenly appears at Lovelight Farms as part of a social media contest, Beckett is stunned and confused. Evie is feeling disconnected from her work and unhappy so even after the contest is over, she returns to the last place she felt happy- Lovelight Farms and Inglewild. Her happiness there has nothing to do with the hot farmer she spent two nights with- nothing at all...

“Maybe this is what happy is supposed to be. A person, a place. A single moment in time.”

I really enjoyed Lovelight Farms when I read it in December, so ofc i had to pick this up! And it did NOT disappoint- this was just as enjoyable, if not better, than the first book 🫶🫶

I really needed just a fun little romance when i picked this up, and it gave me exactly that 😚 B.K. Borison's writing is so enjoyable to read and i flew through this! It was around 300 pages, which is the perfect length for a romance imo- it was a quick, easy read, but still had depth 🥰🥰

The characters were all really good!! ✨️ I loved the small town setting sm, bc there were tons of really fun side characters. There was also such a sense of found family between the core group of characters, which i loveee 🥹🫶

➵ Evie: ugh she was such a good fmc!! 🫶🫶 I loved following her journey to find happiness again and she just had such a vibrant personality 💓💓 she was so fun to read about!
➵ Beckett: a grumpy farmer with tattoos and a soft spot for cute animals?! YES PLS 🤭🤭 i loved seeing him open up to evie and show his sweet side 🥹💘 but also some of the words that came out of his mouth- SIR 🥵🥵he was really hot ngl 😌
➵ Beckett's cats: i swear they were main characters in this book. they were adorableee omg 🥹🥹❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹
➵ Seeing the other people at the farm/town was so fun! 🫶🫶 I loved seeing stella and luka again, and this book made me so excited for layla and caleb's book- i can't wait to read that one next 🤭🤭

Obviously, the romance was *chef's kiss* 😌🤌 Evie and Beckett's relationship had the perfect balance between tension & angst, and cute & sweet moments ✨️ Every time Beckett asked Evie "did you find your happy" i melteddd 🥹🥹💓💓 I loved them as a couple and the ending was so cute 🤧🤧

My only issue was *long suffering sigh* the third act breakup 😃🔫 I swear, they somehow manage to ruin every romance book for me. Authors, take notes- NO ANNOYING THIRD ACT BREAKUPS ANYMORE. For the sake of my sanity, pls don't 😭🙏

Second book in the Lovelight Farms series!

This book follows Beckett and Evie, who we met in the first book. Beckett is the head farmer and half owner of Lovelight Farms and Evie is a social media influencer who is in a rut and is returning to Lovelight farms bc it's the last place she felt happy. This is also a second chance romance since Beckett and Evie had previously met during a steamy one night stand!

I actually liked this book more then the first book! I loved Beckett so much, his grumpy to her sunshine is done so well. I love how she depicted the challenges that Beckett faces with noise sensitivity and social anxiety. I also liked how Evie struggled to redefine her vision of success and happiness. They had awesome chemistry, the tension and slow burn was crazy good, especially since they had already had a steamy night!

It was a little awkward, her just showing up at this farm of basically acquaintances and being like, "yeah I am going to stay here indefinitely until I figure my sh*t out" 😂 But hey I guess forced proximity plots aren't always easy to work out so we will pretend it wasn't weird!

Also, this is the cutest town ever btw! I wish it was real bc I would move there in a heartbeat, I would be all over that town trivia night!!

There was some third act nonsense AGAIN but it wasn't as bad as in the first book but I still wish this wasn't a thing, it's unnecessary and none of us are buying it anyway😂 But all in all it was super cute and sweet and really liked it! 💙💙💙

Another great book by D.K. Borison!! This one left me smiling! In the Weeds is the second book in the Lovelight series. I recommend reading/listening to Lovelight Farms first as the characters in this book are introduced there. But, you could read this as a stand-alone, but Lovelight Farms was so good, why not read that then this! You'll thank me!

Beckett Porter and Evelyn (Evie) St. James met in a bar in Maine. They spent a steamy two-day hookup and Beckett thought he would never see Evie again. But here is where the first book in the series comes in handy, they unexpectedly meet again when Evie, an influencer goes to Lovelight farms (in first book) for a social media contest which Stella (from 1st book) entered.

The attraction is still there as is an awkwardness over how to react when you never expect to run into the person who rocked your world again. In this book, Evie wants a break from being an influencer. She wants to relax and unwind and decides to return to Inglewild, the town which charmed her when she went to Lovelight Farms. There is literally no room at the inn and Beckett offers her the use of his spare bedroom. Enter angst, longing, and sexy times.

This as they say, is where the magic happens. Both characters are endearing and extremely likeable. They are both attracted to each other and trying to figure out how to be in a relationship together. She is an influencer, and he is a farmer. She is outgoing and he has social anxiety disorder. They also have a whole town rooting for them! I loved their journey and how the author threw in a few cute animals as well!

This was a second chance romance that did not disappoint. I have been wowed by the two books in the series that I have read and look forward to the next one.

Another light and cozy read with sizzling chemistry. I love the writing and I devoured this book despite all the issues I had with it.

This story is better than the first one; a one-night stand turned slow burn that even though still fairytale-style wasn’t as silly.

Evie is a social media star and an influencer. When a burnout hits her she travels to the last place where she felt happy, and that just happens to be Beckett’s farm.
Beckett is an introvert with a heart of gold. He is generally more comfortable with animals and plants than with people, but it’s different with Evie…

I loved the slow burn; the chemistry was so well done! Giving them the history of a one-night stand was a neat trick; that way, all the horny thoughts were backed up with the memories of their night together playing in their heads on repeat. So hot!

But!! There’s a but, sorry. The freakin’ third act breakup again!!! Whyyyyy??😩😩😩
Maybe less ridiculous than in the previous book, but equally annoying and absolutely unnecessary.

I have a feeling the author is not aware that adding a third act breakup in a romance novel is NOT mandatory. So, my dearest B.K.Borison! Please, please, please, don’t torment your characters and readers and skip the third act breakups! I know you can do this!

""You haven't even seen the best part yet."
"I have already seen your dick, Beckett."

And with that, welcome to my review 💞
""Not enough," he says, his eyes intent on my face. "'Cause I still think about kissing you all the damn time.""

A farmer who cannot stop fostering animals in need? Who wanted to be an astronaut as a kid? Who still cannot stop looking at the stars? Who has the best family? Who does everything for the people he loves? Who writes notes and draws a map of the farm to a happy place? And this all set in an adorable town and a gorgeous farm with the best characters and cute side stories ever? YES, PLEASE 🥹
"It's Evie.
I never stood a chance."

This is my first book in the Lovelight series (yes, even though it is #2, ik) that I started because of all the good things I have heard about it and that made me apply (and receive) the arc to book #4 which will be released in like 3 weeks. So here I am, minding my own business, and BAMMM, the beautiful world of Lovelight Farms nearly knocks me out of my bed. I DEVOURED this book and the 313 pages in less than 30 hours, simply because I did not want to leave the beautiful world. I fell in love. There, I said it. I love this farm after a single book, and I can feel this becoming a comfort series of mine. 💞
"Why the hell would I crack myself open just for her to look at everything inside and decide it's not enough?"

But then why did I not give it 5 stars (3,5 to be honest)? Well, the trope of this book is basically miscommunication, and it was done in the best way possible with dual POVs and yearning, but it is still one of my least favorite tropes, so I cannot help but deduct 1,5 stars. The book says is itself:
""The miscommunication here is..." She trails off, grumbling under her breath.
"What?"
"It's extremely frustrating for me as a bystander in this relationship of yours.""

This is still such a cute book on a super cute farm in a cute town with other cute people and to die for animals and cute star gazing scenes 💫
""Haven't had Tequila since," he tells me, and I don't think we're talking about alcohol."

I also love to see diversity, and we get it, so yay 🥳❤️

Can't wait to start book #3 asap 🫶🏻

Pre-read:
It's time to start this series because I have the arc for book #4 💗 And yes, I am starting with book #2 because I am not feeling a winter book in June, but if I end up enjoying the series (And I really hope I will), I will come back to book #1 in winter.

Ahhh this might be a new favorite of the year. This had all of the small town feels with meddling neighbors and everyone wanting the main couple to be together. Evie and Beckett had a one night stand and awkwardly ran into each other again when Evie was in town featuring the farm he worked on her social media. Evie is feeling pressured and not happy with her job now, so she decides to take a break and go back to the last place that made her happy, which was the farm. I loved how Evie had to stay with Beckett and just loved being around him again. And Beckett?!? The best part of this book. He was so smitten with Evie and just wanted to be with her and I love a smitten hero. So so much! There was also so much emotion in this with Beckett being afraid of Evie leaving again and Evie really reevaluating her life. This was just so sweet and just what I needed and I loved it!!

Maybe this is what happy is supposed to be. A person, a place. A single moment in time.

In the Weeds is the second book in B.K. Borison’s ‘Lovelight’ series. I’ve been excited to read this book since I loved the first one so much, and it didn’t disappoint. Beckett and Evelyn’s story was sweet and I loved watching Evelyn find her happy and Beckett come into his own. They were great together and I’m excited to read more from this world. I’m thrilled that Layla’s book is next!

Having enjoyed book 1 I decided to jump into this sequel. This one was not for me. It was lacking somewhat in the plot department, and in the romance department as well. It was steamy but I didn't believe that there was anything other than physical attraction between the main characters. That is literally all they talked about. That's okay but not my kind of romance story. I want to be drawn into the romance and see it unfolding on the page and not just a couple of hundred pages of hot and heavy thoughts and deeds.

Evie St. James is trying to find her happy. As a social media influencer who travels and tells stories for a living, she’s feeling adrift. When her best friend/assistant suggests she goes back to where she last felt happy, she immediately knows it’s Lovelight Farms. And Beckett Porter. Who she had a wild weekend with months prior. Beckett is everything. Grumpy, sourly, introverted, and a caring soul who rescues homeless cats and motherless ducks. I loved reading about Evie’s journey finding happiness in moments, people, and places in the charming small town.

Unfortunately, like with book 1, the conflict is 100% surrounding miscommunication. Two books in a series with this trope just makes me not want to continue with book 3 right away. In the case of this book, there is but one missed conversation that sends them into a tailspin. There’s a silly little “grand gesture” that was honestly kinda cringe. But I digress. Aside from the last 10%ish, I did really enjoy this.

PS this isn’t a “holiday” book like book 1.

This was one of my most highly anticipated reads this year. One: the cover. GORGEOUS. Two: came out on my birthday so it was like fate.

Three, most importantly: I loved her debut novel, Lovelight Farms, so much last year!

This started off strong for me. There are a lot of references to when Evie and Beckett first met and first hooked up, and obviously that's their starting point. That's where their story begins. But time passes (as seen in book one) and even more so in here before they see each other again.

At most, I think they probably saw each other under 5 times? I can't remember exactly, but they have this connection from the handful of times they've seen each other and the chemistry is supposed to be explosive...

except as I kept reading, I couldn't shake the feeling that the 'chemistry' was being spoon fed to me without my actually feeling it. I'm a sucker for when I'm on the edge of my seat because the chemistry between the couple is so palpable I'm practically screaming at them. I think this could have gotten there, but I wasn't entirely convinced that they were these two people who kept having chance meetings and needed to be together.

The writing was sweet and the story was told at a decent space, but I did notice quite a bit of fragments that when I started really noticing it, I couldn't un-notice it. I love the incorporation of fragments because I feel like it changes the tone of the story. It adds this sweet touch to the way the words flow, but there might have been too much for my liking.

Overall, you'll root for Evie and Beckett. They have a ton of sweet moments and Beckett is a sucker for saying yes to everyone!! To the point that he now has a bunch of cute as fuck cats AND a duck. A man who loves animals is a man you wanna fall in love with!!

Looking forward to future books from BK Borison forsure!!

"Don´t talk about her. Don´t look at her. Don´t even think about her. If I find out you´ve contacted her with any more of your bullshit, I´ll make whatever happens next look like an accident. Do you understand me?"

Oh we love a protective man around here!
This is a two POV book with the POV´s of Evelyn and Beckett and a beautiful second chance romance.

I loved the characters in this, I have to say my favorite was probably Evie´s best friend Josie. She felt like such a relatable character with her asking Evie all those really important questions every best friend would ask, for example what Beck wears to bed and if they slept together in one already....

I loved the relationship between Beckett and Evely. The chemistry was there as well as the banter and humor between them. Beckett definitely is a new book boyfriend. I mean, a grumpy, tatooed kitten dad? Hell yes.
Also the scene where they have a picnic under the stars? The cutest!

I loved the side characters and I can´t wait to read there storys as well. Becketts family was really funny, I loved his little sisters and their relationship. I really liked the family backstory as well.
The whole smalltown with it´s residents was the sweetest, I really loved the phone tree that was missused for gossip.

I really have nothing bad to say about this book, my only complaint would be that it wasn´t longer.

Overall it was such a heartwarming and funny read with loads of humors. I loved all of the characters and I loved the farm setting. I would definitely recommend this if you like a cute smalltown rom-com!

ugh i'm dnfing. I TRIED OK. i just couldn't do it. too much detail, not enough story or plot. beck is cute, but my issue lies with evie. is she african american? is she latino? indian ??? why mention brown skin if you're not going to say anything more about it? it kept throwing me off honestly. as a biracial woman, i'm very confused and would have loved more culture involved or familial references. SOMETHING.

also this book could have probably been 200 pages and still got the job done. i couldn't make it. maybe i'll try again later but it just wasn't doing the job. i'm sad

the setup…
Beckett Porter, the co-owner and farm operations manager for Lovelight Farms, is at a business conference in Maine when he stops in a bar that first night and encounters a beautiful woman sitting alone. Atypical of his normal behavior, he approaches her, signaling his interest. Soon they spent the next two nights together until he woke that final morning and she was gone. Three months later, he’s stunned to find her at Lovelight Farms, the global social media influencer Evelyn St. James who his partner invited there to participate in her contest. Evelyn is just as rattled as Beckett and disappears again soon after. Now, it’s months later and Evelyn is discontented with her life, trying to connect to what she really wants to do in life. She decides to return to Lovelight Farms in Inglewild, the last place she remembers being happy.

the heart of the story…
Neither Beckett or Evelyn had ever experienced anything like that weekend in Maine. He normally struggles with social interactions and finds the world a noisy place. She isn’t used to going to bed with strange men she meets in a bar. But both couldn’t forget that night. Her return to Lovelight Farms rattled Beckett but Evelyn was willing to explore their connection, one she couldn’t forget. I enjoyed how the town got engaged in trying to push them together, a nosiness and meddling that comes with small towns. It was also enlightening to learn that Beckett wasn’t shy and had real problems and anxieties related to social interactions. But he comes across as distant and standoffish. Despite that, Evelyn never gives up on them and he soon gives in.

the narration…
I enjoyed the narration for Evelyn as she fully embraced her character. I liked the narration for Beckett but it came across as a bit stilted. I didn’t “feel” the emotions of his character.

the bottom line…
I liked Beckett and Evelyn’s story but it didn’t have the magic of the first book. Perhaps it was because I was looking for more romance and relating. Their relationship began with lust and continued when Evelyn returned to Lovelight Farms. While the sensuality was off the charts, it seemed to define every interaction. I liked the story, particularly the charm of the town and the offbeat characters, as well as Beckett and Evelyn. I just wanted more in the growth of their relationship.

3 ⭐️ A second-chance romance with a small-town setting and loveable characters

Summary:

Two strangers part ways after an incredible weekend, expecting never to see each other again, but fate has other plans. A story between a big-time social media influencer looking to find her happy, and a small-town farmer willing to help her find it.

What I liked:

- The dual pov. That’s what was missing in Lovelight Farms, so I’m glad we got to have both Evie and Beckett’s pov and see them pining for one another. 💕

- Evie and Beckett are so adorable. I really like them as individual characters and as a couple. Beckett is the quiet, reserved guy and Evie is the social butterfly. Totally grump/sunshine vibes. Beckett grounds Evie, and Evie lights up Beckett’s life.

- Beckett steals the show. He’s a quiet, kind, sexy, tatted-up farmer who’s close to his family, has 4 adopted cats and a duck, loves to garden, enjoys cooking, dreams of the stars, and his love language is acts of service. I think we’d all like a boyfriend like Beckett.

- There were a few sweet or thoughtful quotes in this story. I've listed some of my favorites below at the end of this review.

What I didn’t like:

- Evie and Beckett’s relationship was insta-love and purely physical for most of the book. They don’t actually have sex again till around 65%, but during the Evie and Beckett pov chapters, both would have constant inner thoughts on the other's physical appearance of the other or how they wanted to jump their bones. I had a hard time understanding what it is that they have in common or talk about on a day-to-day basis because those moments were brushed over. I don’t mind physical attraction being what brought them together, but there wasn’t a lot of depth into what made them compatible and why they fell in love.

- The miscommunication issue at the end. 🙄 It was extremely frustrating that two people who have been living together and sharing their inner thoughts for weeks didn't feel comfortable admitting they wanted the other person. Like, it made sense, but also it didn't. This felt like a weak story device to force conflict right before the happy ending.

- I just don’t love the author's writing style, hence the lower rating. I read Lovelight Farms and had the same feeling but wanted to give the author another shot since I know so many love this series. And while the stories are sweet, I just don’t love the flow. The writing is often wordy and repetitive, with many unnecessary descriptions of characters, the setting, or background info that drags out the story. For example, the flashbacks when Evie and Beckett met and had their two-night stand - both people would constantly daydream about it, and it was sexy at first but became repetitive after a while. At 65%, I basically just skimmed and only read the dialogue to finish. 🤷‍♀️

Favorite Quotes:

It turns out I don't mind tequila so much when I taste it on her.

——————————————

But that's the thing about happiness, I guess. You can show whatever you want to the world and not feel a lick of it inside yourself.

——————————————

Evelyn is like a spring storm. She appears without warning, making everything around her bloom, and then leaves with the wind.

——————————————

Some of it comes, and some of it goes. It's about the trying. Settling into the happy when you find it, being okay when you don't. Feeling all the misshapen bits and pieces and where they fit together. The delightful, ordinary blank space in between.

——————————————

"It's okay to want different things. People change. You're allowed to change. Doing less doesn't make you less."

——————————————

I've thought about her laugh and her smile - prettier than all the wildflowers in the meadow and every star in the sky.

——————————————

I didn't realize falling in love could be so simple. Bacon in a takeout container and earplugs in the bottom of a handbag.

"Sometimes the right thing for one person isn't the nice thing for someone else."

Tropes: one night stand, second chance romance, grumpy sunshine.

I originally gave this 4 stars, but upon reflection I've changed it to 3. The thing is, I really wanted to love this as much as Lovelight Farms, but I just didn't.

In The Weeds follows Evelyn and Beckett as they reunite following one steamy night months before.

I loved the small town feel and characters in this book. I also really liked Evelyn, which was unexpected as social media influencers aren't normally my thing.

My main issue with this book is the romance. I just didn't feel the chemistry at all. It felt like the reader was told that they had chemistry this one weekend, and so they have it now. But it didn't follow through. They felt clunky, and I didn't really understand what they saw in each other. I also found the time jumps quite confusing - they made the book feel really disjointed.

I am looking forward to Layla's story though, so much!!

ditching social media to live off the grid with a tattooed farmer and his many animals? watching the sun set every night on his back porch? I want what she has and I’d commit crimes to have it.

Mr Beckett Porter🤤😭❤️🫶🏻
- a man who adopts stray kittens and ducklings.
- a man who asks you if you “found your happy today”.
- a man who wear earmuffs to drown out the noise when everything gets too loud (honestly same).
- a man who threatens death on any asshole who hurts his sisters.
- A Man. Period.

Beckett is the second Lovelight man to absolutely RUIN my expectations of men. Honestly, B K Borison needs to stop because at this rate the (still to be confirmed) love of my life doesn’t stand a chance😭

There are not enough stars for this book in Beckett's big old sky.

"I didn't realize falling in love could be so simple. Bacon in a takeout container and earplugs in the bottom of a handbag."

This review is incredibly daunting for me because I simply cannot put into words everything this book means to me.

Everyone wants this kind of love. This big, quiet, safe, loving, respectful kind of love. And Becs brings it to life in technicolor.

I have a soft spot for a big man with a tender heart. And man… Beckett has literally blown every single one of my book boyfriends out of the water.

I really can’t do it justice so let me just say this. If you want to find your happy, read this book. And then read it again.✨ 💐 🤍

This was so beautifully written. I felt like I was there watching this all fold out between the characters. I absolutely LOVED the chemistry between the two main characters. It is such a great story that keeps you reeled in to see how it all unfolds! Beckett will forever be my favorite character! The narrators are absolutely SPOT on. I think they made this story even more real to me.

I received this audiobook from NetGalley and the publishers to read and review. All of the statements above are my true opinions after fully reading/listening to this book.

What a lovely read. Becs has such a beautiful way with words, weaving atmosphere and scene and feeling into her narrative while balancing that with dialogue whose flow and punch is truly the stuff the best books are made of.

The gentleness of this story’s unfolding, the reflective, sensual, tender path Evie and Beckett take to find their way to each other, is as comforting as it is lush. Add on the delight of a Stars-Hollow-vibes to the small town of Inglewild and its memorable, lovable townspeople, and I’m utterly smitten.

When Beckett and Evelynn first met, their attraction had been so powerful that they hadn’t needed words. Both knew it was only going to be a fun weekend, that they were too different to search for more. But neither of them has been able to forget.

We just keep missing each other. Every time we collide, something is slightly off. We smack into each other and go ricocheting back into space, a million miles between us. ()
A misalignment, maybe?
A missed opportunity, certainly.

A missed opportunity is how I feel about this book. The beginning of their love story was only shown in a few glimpses, making me feel like I received a book without the first chapters. Maybe those of you who enjoy romances that start with a one-night stand will be able to look past that, but I spent half the book trying to catch up with what they were feeling. I never managed to quite understand why they couldn’t stop thinking about the other, why they were so much into the other despite common sense telling them it wouldn't work. I needed to see them that first nights, really see them, not just a prologue and a couple of blurred scenes.

It was especially frustrating because I love everything else. B.K.Borison knows how to write the kindest, most beautiful and good-hearted heroes. Beckett was the type of person whose major flaw was being too good, always trying to make all people he cared about happy even if that meant getting his feelings destroyed. A man who would carry you without a second thought just because it was so good you can’t feel your legs-I mean, it was kind of his fault. He only wanted to stop feeling lonely, to find a girl to spoil and live happily ever after in his beloved little town. How was I supposed to not fall in love?

“Did you find your happy today?”
I ground my teeth and shook my head. ()
“You want a hug?”

I didn’t have strong feelings for Evie-I think that’s all Becket’s fault for being too good and made me want to protect him at all cost-, but they made a beautiful couple and deserved a better start than the one shown here. Although my favorite part was the relationship with the secondary characters and the whole small-town vibe. I can’t remember the last time I fell so hard in love with a setting, with all the population of gossip-lovers determined to solve everyone’s problems. I’ve seen reviews of people saying there were too many secondary characters going on, but that was the highlight of this book for me. I haven’t read the first book yet, but if you love small-town romances, I highly recommend book 2 and 3.

“You are not tired of me yet?”
“If you’re waiting for me to be tired of you, Evie,” he raises his hand and catches a strand of my hair, curls it around his finger and tugs once. There’s an answering pulse low in my belly. “You’re gonna be waiting a long time.”
