It's a fine line between lust and obsession…

Lately, I’ve been full of questions. Then one hot summer night I find all the answers when I kiss another guy for the first time. But all too soon, he disappears, leaving me wondering who my mystery man was.

Then I can’t stop thinking about him. Even on the ball field, I’m daydreaming about his hungry hands, and the filthy things he whispered in his posh British accent.

Somehow I still win one of the biggest games of my career, and afterward the man surprises me with an invitation: “Meet me in a private suite.”

When I RSVP, he makes me an offer – one chance to try all the things I’ve never experienced. Then we’ll walk away.

But once will never be enough. Soon I’m locked into an intense lessons-in-seduction game with the secretive billionaire who keeps love at a distance, all while he pushes the boundaries of my brand new desires.

And soon I learn that all my desires come with a terrible cost, as he breaks down the walls around my heart.

A Very Filthy Game is book three in the Winner Takes All series by Lauren Blakely. This can be read as a complete stand alone. The characters from previous books make appearances but it won’t take away from your enjoyment if you haven’t met them yet.

Gunnar Ford is twenty four years old and plays professional baseball for the San Francisco Dragons. He loves baseball above all else. He’s being paid entry level pay but it still enables him to take care of his mom and put his younger sister and brother through college. Recently, Gunnar realized something very important about himself. He likes men. But he’s never taken the next step. Until that night at the club when their eyes met. When he shared his first kiss with a man that took his breath away.

Rafe Rodman is owner and CEO of his very successful underwear for men company. He makes underwear that will make men feel confident and sexy. Rafe has had his heart broken and he has no interest in ever going there again. But he can’t stop thinking about the sexy man in the club that he kissed.

These two enter into a sexy game with each other, flirting back and forth. Then Rafe takes things further when he arranges for them to meet in a private ballpark suite after a game. Rafe wants complete control and he wants to fulfill some of Gunnar’s wildest fantasies. But he wants no strings. No feelings involved.

Let me say first that these two were so hot together. Both of them are completely dedicated to their jobs and Gunnar to his family. Neither know how to deal with the physical obsession they have for each other. They were actually together very few times. So for me, I wasn’t able to really experience them the way I wanted to as a couple. I didn’t feel the emotional connection as much as I needed to. Still, it was an enjoyable book and I liked getting to know these two. There was a very short extended epilogue available that was so sweet. The next book in the series will be book four, Limited Edition Husband.

Rafe and Gunnar are back!

If you're a fan of Lauren Blakely's books, you might recall she wrote the novella Thirst Trap a while ago. That's where we first met the billionaire mogul and cocky pro baseball player. Their eyes meet across a crowded club, and there was an instant pull. Well, Lauren has expanded the novella into a full-length novel and given us more of this unforgetttable couple.

When Rafe and Gunner's eyes connect across a crowded club, there's an immediate pull between them. Both have very busy and demanding careers, and there just isn't time to devote to a full time relationship. Neither can stop thinking about the other, so they agree to a set timeline to be together, they they walk away. Yeah, right!

I can't say enough about this story, and I certainly don't want to say anything that would spoil it.
The chemistry between Rafe and Gunnar is off the charts, and their sexy time together is so, so, so hot! When they're together, everything else seems to fall outside their bubble. They're determined to keep things casual between them, while trying to ignore what's blooming in their hearts. This is a wonderful series, and I can't wait for what's coming up next.

Shane East and Joe Arden, affectionately known as #Eaden, narrate this complicated story of two men who are so drawn to one another, yet are fighting their feelings with their need to protect their hearts. This will definitely be a story I'll listen to multiple times.

I didn't really enjoy this one. I think the problem for me was the whole 'someone broke my heart therefore I will never love again because obviously everyone will break my heart'. I hate that, because it's such a stupid outlook! It genuinely frustrates me every time I read it so I will never enjoy a book that has that as it's main plot.

I did zero research on this book before purchasing the audiobook. That's on me. If I had known it began life as a serial, I likely wouldn't have purchased it. Authors are typically not adept at adapting their serials into novel format. Here, as Blakely explains in a note at the beginning of the book, none of the OTT drama common to serials was edited out. This is less a book and more a soap opera, which works for some, but simply wasn't what I was looking for today.

This was not good. I should've known better than to try another book from this series when I didn't like the prior book and the series overall has not been great. I'm going to blame my poor decision to pick this up on the fact that I have the memory of a gnat and I'm weak for the author's choice of audiobook narrators. If it weren't for the narrators, I wouldn't have even given this book a shot. I'm starting to think that's the author's ploy, write a meh book, pick great narrators to pull in audiobook sales, rinse and repeat. Honestly, I can't fault her. Make that money, girl. 😂 I bought the audiobook solely for the narrators/duet narration and listened to the whole thing. In the end, I liked almost none of it. The narration was good, yes, but even Shane East and Joe Arden couldn't make this a good book. 🫠

This authors books are so extra. They all follow a very similar story and character type but for some reason the audios are like absolute catnip to me. I can just accept that it’s over the top, get on with it and enjoy it for what it is. This one was no different.

Disappointing after the enjoyment of book one

2.5*

There's an author note at the start which explains that this was originally written and released via Amazon's Vella program.

And it's very obvious. This approaches soap opera levels of choppy chapters in which either something sexual happens or where there's an overly dramatic conversation lacking depth.

The author notes it was reworked for release but, sadly for me, who adored book one, it's not good.

There doesn't seem to have been much in the way of condensing bitty chapters into expanded and fully fleshed-out ones, the dialogue is mostly surface subjects only.

There's hardly any time given to them being together outside of the sexy times, so I'm completely unsure how I'm supposed to buy into them falling for each other.

There's no real secondary plotline at all, Rafe's purchase of a company in England seems thrown in just to make him have to leave San Francisco.

And they have one night - in which Gunnar bottoms as his first fully penetrative encounter - and it's given the full weight of a life-changing experience, for them both, and then he walks away.

Rafe's hesitance is explained by his getting burned by an ex-lover, understandable, but Gunnar's reasoning is down to him not wanting to lose a bet with his teammates.

Also in England, we have solicitors, not attorneys, and the last time I was in Covent Garden,(somewhere I've been to frequently, including the two years I lived in London), I don't ever remember being able to look down on a river, not even from buildings close to The Savoy.

I wish Lauren had left this book as a Vella release and done something different for the third book in this series.

Lauren Blakely's newest M/M story, A Very Filthy Game, is one that will completely mesmerize you. The characters, the storyline, the chemistry, the s*x......everything about this story is addictive! Gunnar and Rafe will absolutely steal your heart all while causing your Kindle to overheat because this story is sizzling H-O-T. It's funny, sexy, swoony, and totally satisfying.

Gunnar and Rafe are two famous figures. One, a young professional baseball star, and one, an uber-successful businessman. The moment they meet in a club, you can feel the sparks and their chemistry. These two are vastly different yet they really complement each other. Gunnar knows exactly what he wants and Rafe is the consummate teacher, pushing Gunnar in all the right ways. I loved how easygoing these two were together. Gunnar was able to knock down Rafe's walls and loosen him up. He turned Rafe's world completely upside down! Of course, it's not all smooth sailing for these two hotties. But they fall hard for each other and thankfully they find their happy ending.

Blakely brings back some old favorite characters to support Gunnar and Rafe and as usual, I adored catching up with them. There's so much to love about this story which makes the reading experience a great one. It's funny, it's emotional and it's sweet but sinful, the perfect combination. 5 stars

A Very Filthy Game is book 3 of the Winner Takes All series by Lauren Blakely. It is told from both points of view with a happy ending.

WHAT TO EXPECT:
✔️ big city
✔️ sports romance
✔️ billionaire
✔️ MM

Gunnar and Rafe are rich and famous of their own accord. Gunnar is the San Francisco Dragon’s third baseman and Rafe Rodman is a fashion mogul.

Although Gunnar loves wearing Rodman underwear, they’d never met until they’re both at the same club, at the same time and share a scorching hot kiss. But Rafe has go, leaving Gunnar no other choice but to post a racy pic of himself inviting Rafe to “come get him.”

While neither of them want a relationship much less love, Gunnar wants to safely explore his brand new desires and Rafe is more than willing and up to the task. Their chemistry is sizzling, their banter is flirty and seductive and their connection is undeniable, but is it worth risking their hearts?

I’m a huge fan of Lauren Blakely. She has a wonderful way of combining, heat and heart in appealing stories, with charismatic characters you can’t help but root for. A Very Filthy Game is no exception, it’s just a bit naughtier and I loved it. I only wish we could’ve gotten a bit more.

This was a little meh for me. It wasn't bad. I just felt like it lacked flow and chemistry. The ending was also kind of abrupt. Maybe because it was originally made for Vella and not made as a book. I’m not sure it translated to a full novel.

Rafe and Gunner are both likable enough but it lacked emotion and any in-depth background and knowledge. We know Rafe had been hurt significantly in the past but not only was that never truly explored, he never shared all of it with Gunner. He'd lost his parents in his 20s but that's not mentioned but once.

As much as I enjoyed Gunner, he was a bit one dimensional. Its great he was taking care of his family but we never got to really explore the loss of his father and how his family had to adapt. Also, him needing every penny to pay for his family while on a MLB salary as a starter was a pinch unnecessarily dramatic.

While their connection at the club was fun and sexy, it didn't feel Intriguing. And everything that followed felt like it was orchestrated to get to the next spicy scene - none of which were very hot. Maybe its cause they lacked emotion.

Plus, their rationales for not being able to be together were invalid and felt like cop outs. Being busy was basically the reason. They both also referred to breaking up but they were never together. They got each other off like twice and had fucked once. It was weird. Meanwhile, all these other players and business ppl have relationships.

I don't know. It just felt rushed and void of deep feelings. I think it just lacked the substance of other LB books.

Oh, my, that was bad. No story, no feeling, no depth. Just cliche after cliche, what with the 34-year old billionaire selling underwear and the 24-year old athlete with the Shakespeare references. The seduction lessons consisted of... two blowjobs and a fuck. This was also the whole extent of the "relationship" before declarations were made... Just a waste of time.

**I received an advanced copy of A Very Filthy Game by Lauren Blakely and this is my honest review**

Nothing matters more in the whole damn world than this chance at love and happiness.

I’ve been so excited for this story since I listened to the tiny snippet of their story at the end of the Winning With Him audiobook and let me tell you it did not disappoint.

***

We’ve heard all about the Rafe Rodman from Grant’s love of the fancy underwear and honestly he was everything I thought he would be. A smoldering man with a delicious accent.

Gunnar is a hotter baseball player that we’ve met multiple times that is just starting on his journey of discovering his sexuality when he has one hot night with a stranger he met at a club.

They live such different lives on opposite sides of the worlds but does that even matter when you can’t keep your hands off each other?
***

Lauren is truly killing it with her mm releases and this story is no different. The storyline was original and had you hooked from the very beginning. The dynamic between these two was so easy going but when it came time Rafe was ready to show Gunnar everything he knew 🥵

We get a few really nice cameos from characters we know and love and truly it made my heart smile.

I love this story. I love this world. I will read 75 more mm books set in this universe.

Rafe is a self made business mogul and Gunnar is a young MLB baseball star. It’s an opposites attract, instant chemistry romance with the virgin hero trope as well.
It’s a fun, flirty and super sexy MM romance that’s fast moving and over the top in fun ways.
I love the taunting and teasing nature of their interactions. I love the smoldering and explosive chemistry between them. They are a bit into slightly k!nky (mildly) games and it’s a hot part of the story.
A self made billionaire and a MLB player in the beginning of his career make for lots of entertaining and steamy times.
They’re both determined that career is everything and they believe they don’t have the time or capacity to fit an emotional relationship in. That created some mild angst in the story and a lot of longing, flirting and teasing between the pair.
I really liked Gunnar’s playful, cocky and sweet personality.
Rafe is a bit buttoned up by appearances, he’s very caring and he lets loose privately, it’s a great contrast.
I love the way social media, tv and interviews played a cute part in their flirty games. It’s such a fun aspect.
It was a fun, light romance with great characters, banter and naughty shenanigans. I enjoyed this extravagant escape romance and the fun characters. It’s super hot and smexy as well. It’s a lot of fun.

Gunnar is the third baseman for the Dragons. Rafe is a fashion mogul. At the same party, they share a steamy moment that has them wishing for more and has Gunnar posting a thirst trap to catch Rafe’s attention.

The chemistry sparks from there and as they spend time together, realize they can’t fight the attraction between them. But Rafe doesn’t do relationships and Gunnar is just starting to explore his bi side. Both traits make for some resistant characters and a lot of back and forth.

I loved these two together. They seem in some respects to be opposites, but in the very best ways. Though Gunnar isn’t experienced with men he knows what he wants, and Rafe is all for pushing boundaries for himself while protecting Gunnar’s image. Though they didn’t tease each other long, the build up of tension kept it so that even after they gave in the tension stayed high.

This was a flirty, spicy, chemistry filled story of testing limits, trusting instincts and going after what the heart wants. Once again, Lauren has written a story that keeps the pages moving with intense characters, dramatic situations, and a little bit of exhibition. This was an absolutely entertaining read!

I tried… I wanted to like this, but it just wasn’t for me. Truthfully, I didn’t particularly care for either Gunner or Rafe. Besides physical attraction I didn’t see what they saw in one another.

I know plenty of readers liked their story, but I’m sorry to say, I didn’t.

4/5 ⭐️ 4/5 🌶️

Lauren writes such good MM stories. I loved this forbidden, age gap, possêssive trope story about Gunnar and Rafe.

Gunnar and Rafe meet one day at a night club and the tension is real. They continue to unintentionally/intentionally run into each other over the next week. The tension and banter is so good with them. Gunnar is new to his biawakening and wants to experience all the things with sêxy 10 years older than him CEO millionaire Rafe.

I enjoyed that Gunnar wasn’t afraid to ask for what he wanted and I really loved that Rafe wanted honesty and asked for it right off the bat. The smüt was incredible and I loved their story!

5 ⭐️ 3 🌶️

I bought this book because I love Lauren Blakely’s MM books & for the narration because, Joe Arden & Shane East, but then this book was a surprise 5 ⭐️ BANGER for me. Haven’t read any in this series and kind of went in blind and was pleasantly surprised. Obviosuly the narration was 🔥 with those two but the story line was SO good & hot. Rafe & Gunnar had legit everything; chemistry, romance and sinfully sweet spice! Can’t wait for the next In the series.

DNF 9%. Blah. All sex no substance. Maybe if the author had spent a chapter or two on character development and built up some tension betw the MCs, I would’ve been on board. As it was everything centered on sex and sex talk pretty much right out of the gate and I was completely uninterested.

Not into the whole "let's turn this serialized story into a book" thing *shrugs*!! By the author's own admission, the format is obviously different in that the chapters are shorter, the drama is on steroids, and the "HEA" (from what I've heard) is lazy, sloppy, rushed, and practically non-existent!! Nope, being a part of the adorers of the MM genre, I have ridiculously specific [and high!] standards and expectations!! Put your back into it, make a concerted and proper effort (and mean it)!! I will only be borrowing this from Kindle Unlimited and will NOT be purchasing it, it's not worth it!! Author, if you half-ass it and don't care, then I definitely don't fucking care!! Also, I think the whole milking serialized stories by turning them into books is what dilutes a genre and encourages quality deterioration!! I never want this serialized bullshit to become a "thing" and I definitely don't want to just "give it a shot"!! NO, I WILL NOT ENCOURAGE HALF-ASSED, LAZY, SLOPPY EFFORTS OR WRITING!!! I will NOT perpetuate or enable an author's excuse to do just that!!! NO!!! I want this author's REGULARLY WRITTEN MM books, because THOSE I absolutely buy and adore, and those are definitely FANTASTIC AND EXCELLENT!!!!

A baseball M/M romance?! Yes, please!

This is part of the Winner Takes All series, which I highly recommend reading, but can be read as a stand alone. We meet Gunner, our baseball player in this series. He has just discovered that he likes men as much as women, but he has yet to be with a man. In comes Rafe. A British billionaire who makes his fortune designing men's fashion. Including under wear. They meet at one of Rafe's favorite bars and it is the most cutest and hottest meet cute ever!!

Rafe has been hurt in the past and is not interested in a relationship. He just wants to have fun. Gunner has never been with a man and just wants to experiment with his new sexuality. But after one night together, they both can't seem to get enough of each other.

Loved this story so much! A very easy read with very little drama. The audio is amazing!

𝐀 𝐕𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐅𝐢𝐥𝐭𝐡𝐲 𝐆𝐚𝐦𝐞, the third book in the Winner Takes All series by Lauren Blakely is Rafe and Gunner's story.

A glance at a nightclub and a sexy suggestive post on social media trigger a very filthy game of seduction between Rafe and Gunner. Both too consumed by their professions they agree to just a fling only to end up breaking down each other's walls.

Rafe and Gunner are so much more than I expected them to be. The book for sure lives up to its name and is very filthy and steamy. I loved the lessons that Rafe put Gunner through and when Rafe finally came to the realization that he could have both his career and Gunner.

Shane East and Joe Arden were perfect as always and make a great pair narrating together and the fact it was duet narration made it even better.

Get ready for... mm, billionaire, sports (baseball), first times, forbidden, exhibitionism kink, strangers to lovers, and dual first-person point of view.

I have enjoyed numerous stories by this author. I quickly became captivated by Gunnar, the quirky and charming third basemen of the Dragons. He has plenty of personality and is generous to a fault. The gifted baseball player enjoys life and wants to widen his physical experiences.

He meets a gorgeous stranger with a lot of alpha vibes at a club. Gunnar finds out this compelling man is Rafe, the owner of a very successful men’s underwear line. The molten chemistry continues and doesn’t abate even after they connect.

The author noted that this was like a late-night soap opera that was very sensual. I think this sums up the book perfectly. Instalust morphs into instalove with a healthy serving of angst that really didn’t seem to make sense.

The men crave each other, but Rafe’s past makes him wary, and he equates having a love life this obsessive with making his business suffer. I never quite understood the connection but went with the flow.

I loved Gunnar but had a hard time warming up to Rafe. I never truly saw them as an equal couple. I’m sure this was on me, and I would definitely encourage this smoldering romance to others. I am just not the biggest fan of too much angst combined with instalove, but I do hope this book makes you smile. Happy reading!
