Tea: A nice solid flavor.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It's another book I've reread more then once.Though this is an old book, I thought the story was really good. I don't know how historically accurate it is, as far as the Druids, and the history of the area. I honestly didn't care, because I was caught up in the characters.
Set in Celtic times, it follows a young girl, who becomes captured and turned into a slave...and escapes only to be confronted to the man who raped her. And while it may seem odd or hard to believe, she ends up falling in love with him. The story is about their struggle to survive, and keep their lives, land, and their culture against the invading Romans.
Great characters, good action and intrigue, albeit probably flawed historically.
A nice enjoyable read for a weekend get away or a daily life book retreat.

I see some reviews that are really negative on this book, but I loved this when I was a teenager and have purchased it and reread it at least 4 times since then. Melangell is a young girl who admittedly has a really harsh and horrid life, but she tries to see the beauty in everything. There are some things true that are far-fetched, such as her marrying her original rapist happily a few years after it all happened. The story does follow other characters and it paints a more vivid and detailed world for us. The change in characters is seamless and there is plenty of action and mystique (on the druid side of things) to keep the overarching plot moving along.
Remember, this book was published in 1989, so some things would not have aged well but those are minor. I really enjoy the story, I enjoy the characters and I would have loved to see some of the men in Nechtan's band of warriors get their own stories eventually.

This book is such a disappointment that the copy I just bought will be destroyed by fire. No one should read this and anyone that likes it is sick in the head. Disgusting. I'm so disappointed that this came from a fellow woman... her only excuse if your generous enough to give her one is that she was born a while ago and rape want treated like such a bad thing. Apparently this author got off on it so much so that she wrote a book about a chick falling in love with her rapist.
