3.5 Stars ~ 'Porpoiseful Intent' is book two in author Tymber Dalton's 'Placida Pod' series, and features Emery and Sean. If you remember, Emery is a dolphin shifter, Sean is human, and they met and mated in the first book. This caused some difficulties with Emery's family, and his best friend, Erik, tried to kill Sean, and has since disappeared. Basically, if you missed book one, you really should read it. It's filled with excitement, action, and seriously hot mating.

I love that the author picked this story up right after the end of the previous. Emery and Sean have been mated for six weeks, and they're still deliriously happy together. Emery's dad, the alpha, gets Emery to help him start planning to host a superpod for Samhain. Which, by the way, is exactly what it sounds like. A ton of pods from all over come together to bond and celebrate in one location. This all sounds well and good, except Hurricane Franklin is heading their way, and after the last night hunt, a member of their pod has gone missing. Throw that stress in with Sean's parents staying at Emery's parents’ home during the hurricane, and there's a recipe for potential disaster.

They weather the hurricane, although Sean's parents get more than they bargained for. Sean has the bad luck to meet Wyatt in his own backyard, not knowing he's a shifter and not a real alligator. Just like Sean, I think I might've wet myself, too. When another pod member goes missing, their thoughts and suspicions turn toward Erik, and the strong possibility that he's back for revenge.

Another fun addition to the series. The plot is pretty predictable, which I'm kind of disappointed with, but it's still an enjoyable read that I can recommend.

The Romance Review

Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned. Or in this case, a man scorned by the man he loves. Erik is back to try and destroy Sean and Emery's life. Erik is still not over Emery and he will do anything, even kill, to ensure no one has Emery. In this second installment, Erik is now more than a crazy stalker. He's turned into a serial killer.

The brutal manner in which Erik kills other dolphin shifters is appalling. These are dolphins that were one time his pod mates. His single minded focus for revenge and lust for Emery is disturbing. While Erik is riding the Fatal Attraction psycho train, Sean and Emery are in family crisis mode. The reader learns more about the Alpha role as well as the responsibilities of an Alpha's mate. Sean is getting a crash course on pod politics as members of the pod are mysteriously targeted and killed off.

In case readers think this book is all gloom and doom, Ms. Dalton shows off her quirky sense of humour several times through this book. The funny episodes are a lovely counterbalance to the stresses Sean and Emery suffer through. As fans of Ms. Dalton know, she is a queen of painful angst plots that can even manifest physical pangs of the heart in a reader. In this story, she does not spare the reader any hardships and she excels with her conflicts. While she resolves each conflict, it's on her schedule, not the wishful hopes of the reader.

This book's happy-for-now ending will cause a reader to rail a bit and eagerly anticipate the next installment. This paranormal romance is recommended for m/m readers who love dolphins and sexy stubborn men.

Disappointing second book. Centers around the MCs of the first book. This one feels like a couple of chapters of a book it is not a full story. Without giving any spoilers you start and end in the same situation. It went on and on and on to fill a Siren size book but not much happens. At first I was glad Erik was finally going to get what was he was due and the book ends and all I can say is WTF are you kidding me.

I'm not really sure what to think about this... I didn't realize that it would be the same characters from the first book as the main story.. that in itself was kind of disappointing.

I thoroughly enjoyed the second book in the Placida Pod series. I liked it better than the first one. This time the sex to story ratio was really good and the characters gelled so much more.

The writing is fun and entertaining - the story of the superpod, Sean's parents finding out their son's partner is a dolphin shifter, and Wyatt the Alligator shifter all helped it along nicely. Sean and Emery are good characters and a nice couple. Eric is also back and he is causing havoc to the pod in a murderous way.

I look forward to the next installment in this series, as it ends with more to come. So bring on book #3.
