This is a really great starter biography for young readers.

I read this with my 7-year-old daughter, and she found this to be a good reading level for her. with a shared first name, she is always attracted to books about Gabby and empowered women. There are a lot of great facts and trivia about Gabby Douglas that is presented in a way not to bore the young reader.

The photographs help show a sense of the range of emotions from hard work to Olympic success for her. This is a great time to get to know great examples for girls with the upcoming Olympics. I highly recommend it to any young girls.

**Spoiler Alert**
This book is a bio about Gabrielle Christina Victoria Douglas born on December 31, 1995, Virginia Beach, Virginia. She and her 3 older siblings along with her mom and da were homeless living out of a car. Her mom Natalie Hawkins decided she had had enough. She called her mom and Gabby and the rest of her family went o live wither grandma except for her father.
Gabby started off as a normal kid with a sister that did gymnastics (until she split both her wrist), Another sister who did ice skating (until she gave it up for gabby to succeed), and a brother who loved her to death.
At 6 years old she began to do gymnastics. She had some problems with racism and other things but she made it through. At age 14 she made a big decision to move to Iowa to train with coach Liang Chow. She competed against older athletes and pushed all the way until one day in practice she tor her ACL. She was out for a couple of moths but she came back stronger than ever.
Gabby then went on to compete at nationals. She did not do so well on beam but did very well on the other events which allowed her to go to the next round. At the qualifying meet gabby decided she was going to quit gymnastics but her mom nor her family would let her so she pushed on. Gabby qualified and was an official U.S.A. Olympic gymnast.
Gabby and her team "The Fierce Five" won the most Olympic gold medals which made Gabby Douglas the first African-American gymnast to win a gold medal in Olympic history. Gabby's family then moved to California but gabby and her grandma moved to Ohio. Now gabby has been the person I look up to for about 7-8 years now. I am sure she is what other people look up to as well despite the nasty comments and other bad things that has happened to her. Gabby and her family now live happily ever after.
