With the King's Row team training at Halverton, Harvard decides to be romantically adventurous, while Bobby is surprised to find romance closer to home than he expected!
Meanwhile, Seiji, impressed by the hard won victories of King's Row, faces an important decision about where his loyalty should lie...

“When you start out at something, you’re full of dreams. You can be the best. In your own mind, you have limitless potential. But as you practice, your dreams give way to reality."
Jesse Coste is furious at this random kid, Nicholas Cox, who interrupted his talk with Seiji, and he begins paying closer attention to the way Nicholas fences. Seiji faces an unexpected challenge. Harvard practices being selfish with the help of Aiden.
This issue was, as all of Fence is, delightful and cute and dramatic. It's amazing how Pacat manages to make a fencing training camp for teens such a whirlpool of impeccable tea.
Aside from a lot of fencing drama laced with tons of personal drama, this issue also featured some nice character moments, such as Aiden teaching Harvard how to say no. I am very much like Harvard in many ways - someone who has a hard time saying no if someone asks me for something and prioritising myself - so I related to his absolute shock at having to say no when someone asks for his help cause he needs to help himself. That moment, with him, was a huge, huge mood. I love him.
I also really appreciated the little insight into Kyle, Jesse's cousin, as, so far, he has mainly been a privileged idiot who's annoyed me. But in this issue, seeing how But then he continued being a dick to others, and my empathy faded.
I cannot wait for the last issue - the sneak peek in Pacat's insta looked SO GOOD - but I'm also sad that this miniseries will be over cause having a monthly dose of Fence has been so delightful! I love this series with my whole being.
I need this to be in book form. Someone novelize this because I can not DEAL with the snippets…
I miss the phone calls Seiji had with his dad and if we got one of those now it’d take up a whole issue. I miss all the other little stuff that just can’t be conveyed through images.
Don’t get me wrong the art is phenomenal, but we can go back to the comics later after the ACTUAL story/plot has been told.
This definitely didn't live up to the expectations set up by the last two issues. The last two issues had really good cliffhanger-y endings which really pumped me up to read the next issue but the ending of this one is just 'eh'.
Though I do like the ending for one reason, unless and of course they fake out, we will know one way or the other how canonical the Fence books are. I mean at this point in the story, it is fair to say they are not at all canon despite the fact that they were so good that it is actually criminal to not have them be canon. But, I would like some certainty on this point especially because I want to know if Aiden and Harvard are together or not at this point. Because I want to be prepared if I'm expected to wait to see them get together in the comics. Put me out of my misery here!
I liked the message that this issue put forth about how our expectations sometimes clash with reality and how demoralising it can be. But, yeah this issue, didn't have a lot of forward momentum and considering how much the story seemed to progress in the last issue this was a bit of let down. But, still really good and I'm looking forward to see how this arc ends with the next issue.
4.5 ⭐️ wow. Why am I always surprised by Fence ???? Like for an unexplained reason it engages me so much sometimes.
Finally more action, more Nicolas progress etc.
I would definitely rate this part differently in situation of reading ALL redemption at once (you would be able to do it In January 2024). But since I’m impatient, and decided to read each individually, with no surprise I like #3 most out of 3 available. Will I like #4 more?
Not Pacat trying to convince me there will be a Harvard-centric love triangle with that cliffhanger. We all know he has eyes only for one person (even if he's much less aware of it than Aiden). Thank goodness I've already read the accompanying novels and know our ship is in safe hands 🙏
