A younger woman and a stubborn gray hair reminds Lane she’s staring 40 in the face…
Lane Ahn’s hopes of an uneventful birthday go astray when a single gray hair pushes her to make an impulsive decision. As she prepares for a date with Nanda, she’s faced with the startling realization that she’s not young anymore.
Best friend, Pax, works her magic to fix the disaster, but it’s the date that needs help. While Nanda is gorgeous, it’s the sarcastic Pauli, Nanda’s ex, who grabs Lane's attention. Their connection can’t be denied and Pax sees it, too.
Things go awry when old secrets surface and friendships are challenged. Stray gray hairs might be the least of Lane’s worries…
4 stars. Cute, a bit quirky and with an interesting cast of characters. I liked the writing style a lot and the humor in this. I liked Lane and Pauli’s chemistry a lot. I honestly wouldn’t have mind if this has been a full length novel because I wanted more of them and their relationship. It’s super short but it was a lot of fun and a quick, entertaining read.
Love the characters, especially Lane who is really trying to figure it out as most of us are. The story is sweet. The ending was exactly what I wanted, even though I could have read on for another couple hundred pages.
I really love the chemistry between Pauli and Lane. Pauli is funny because she tells jokes that older people (Lane and mine’s age) appreciate. She’s corny, but really sweet. Lane and her got into a groove really quick and seemed to have some really great chemistry. At least this is the way L.M. Bennett wrote it and I believed it.
I received a free copy of this book and I am writing a review without prejudice and voluntarily.

I loved the tone of the story. It was awkward, complicated, and messy (in terms of the characters and how they interacted with each other) but that made it more real. By the end, I desperately wanted Lane to cut everybody off and just figure her shit out lol.
Unfortunately, I had a hard time getting through these 72 pages. I had to read the first few paragraphs a few times because of all the names coming at me. The fact that everyone had short names didn’t help either. I kept forgetting who was who. But the more you read, things start falling into place. It'll frustrate you a bit if you’re anything like me, though.
I spent a lot of time rereading passages to understand what was going on, half of that had to do with the format of the story. There were a lot of cuts and jumps that were jarring and left me lost. You really do get into it though and you’ll understand the overall plot and messages. Still, I get that it’s a novelette, but the transitions could've been smoother and would've helped with slowing things down to lessen my confusion. It made it hard to keep track of the details that already passed.
It’s a sweet story, despite how messy it is, and I’d recommend it. Maybe you’ll have a better time following than I did, and it might be in your top ten this year.
the writing style and plot were all over the place and for the life of me i couldn’t piece anything together. and im not sure if it was because the book was in third person that i never knew who was talking or who was the subject of the conversation but i kept getting lost.
now the book definitely started off with a bang and lowkey had me hooked but there were so many gaps and time jumps that it was hard to keep up.
for example, our main character, Lane, was caught in bed with Pax’s wife to get back at her girlfriend for cheating on first? (idk i’m not sure as it wasn’t really explained). Then we cut to the next chapter where Lane is in a taxi that’s on the way to Pax’s job to apologize for sleeping with her wife. and then from there we jump to Lane getting ready for a date and she’s call Pax to come help her with her hair??? like when did these two even become friends??
after that everything just kinda went downhill for me. i could barely keep up with what was happening and even though it’s a short book everything felt so rushed and i hate that.
This very short tale jumped right in from the start. In fact, I had to reread the first page trying to understand what was going on. Since it is a short, there is little character development. Lane meanders her way through life a bit, before she finds her one.
