RATING: 1.5 (Still too Much) HEARTS (1 Heart for cover + .5 Heart for story.)

I have to be honest: Although the blurb spurs the feelings of a good read, Delicate Ink isn’t nearly as good as it is implied, or could have been. Rather, Carrie Ann Ryan introduces us to the chronic plague of one too many clichés in a book, and with this, the addition of one too many sub-plots, rendering a not-so-promising start to the series.

The beginning of Delicate Ink starts with the introduction of main characters, Sierra and Austin. This is not so bad in its delivery, in fact, it even sparks some feelings of interest. And perhaps, this is the worst aspect of this book as it isn’t consistent. After this, the story is a series of never ending banal events – lust at first sight, a jealous girlfriend, heroine with a tragic past, miscommunication, and even the archetypal the hero did not know about. And while these ideas are used to try to make an engaging storyline, these same ideas have been done before and, sadly, much better. Yet, to make matters worse, events from one chapter to the next do not transition well, for which the sub-plots take most of the responsibility. The side stories feel like random additions at unplanned moments throughout the novel, and do not aid in creating a solid read. There is too much going on, and none of the storylines have proper follow through or feel resolved. There is always a sense of something missing, and that feeling never truly goes away.

The main point here is that, everything about this book is superfluous, including the romance. 1. Sierra and Austin don’t make sense as a couple. 2. Sierra doesn’t want a relationship, but with a few sentences Austin convinces her to give them a try. 3. Typical alpha male starts calling heroine “baby” after the first meeting (A big pet peeve!). 4. Meaningless sex...ALL the time. 5. Random inclusion of BDSM into the story (What?). And, 6. An evident HEA . *queue eye-rolls* With each progression of these events, my initial image of Sierra as smart and courageous and Austin as attractive and mature vanished, leaving only the impression of (honestly speaking) dense and lifeless characters. I am lenient when it comes to rating contemporaries as there is at least one aspect I enjoy, but I just can’t do it with this one. I could not connect with the characters, their story, or their romance. The amount of factors derailing the story are way too prominent, in this, for me to ignore.

Ultimately, this isn’t a novel I would recommend. If anything, I’d tell you to just skip it all together, especially if you are the type of reader who appreciates actual depth and originality to their contemporary reads. Ryan attempts to make this story enjoyable with complex side stories and drama, but for all the unnecessary elements she throws in, she fails to succeed – throwing away what little potential this story starts with, instead of honing it into something remarkable, enjoyable, and different. On that note, I think it’s fair to say, I will not be continuing with this series.

This is my honest opinion. No disrespect was intended towards the author.

Stand-alone book 1.

BLURB:
On the wrong side of thirty, Austin Montgomery is ready to settle down. Unfortunately, his inked sleeves and scruffy beard isn’t the suave business appearance some women crave. Only finding a woman who can deal with his job, as a tattoo artist and owner of Montgomery Ink, his seven meddling siblings, and his own gruff attitude won’t be easy.
Finding a man is the last thing on Sierra Elder’s mind. A recent transplant to Denver, her focus is on opening her own boutique. Wanting to cover up scars that run deeper than her flesh, she finds in Austin a man that truly gets to her—in more ways than one.
Although wary, they embark on a slow, tempestuous burn of a relationship. When blasts from both their pasts intrude on their present, however, it will take more than a promise of what could be to keep them together.

Delicate Ink is my first Carrie Ann Ryan book, and while I liked her writing and even the storyline, I felt like there was too much going on. Not just with the main characters, but a few other random POV’s and storylines thrown in as well. I enjoyed the dynamic of the Montgomery family so I might try the next one in the series!

DNF. For me, the two MC's had zero chemistry. I felt like the only thing missing was the kitchen sink. Way too many plots and sub-plots, the inclusion of characters that didn't enhance the story or move it forward in any way, it just didn't work. It also needed another run through editing. No disrespect to the author and her hard work, but this was not ready for publication.

Not rating.

Only managed to get to 30%. The characters and storyline were too corny and cliche.

Sorry to say this book was not for me.

Sierra is scarred both mentally and physically but she moves and opens her own boutique. When she decides to get a tattoo to help cover the scars on her side, she comes face to face with Austin who is at first really gruff with her because he's having a bad day and because his ex won't leave him alone.

Austin is a big, bearded tattoo artist who has tattoos himself. So when Sierra walks into his shop and he thinks she's looking her prim and proper nose down at his appearance, he lashes out in a gruff manner. But Sierra is no push over and thinks Austin is good looking even if she doesn't like him.

When Sierra comes back for her second appointment to the tattoo shop, she has to talk to Austin who is going to be drawing her tattoo for her. He apologizes for how he acted the first time they met and she feels a little better talking with him. She might be a little reluctant about showing him her scars right away but he puts her at ease and tells her he can still do a drawing for her and she can show him her side when she feels more comfortable. By the time they are done, he's asking her out and she accepts. She calls to cancel when her window gets broken but he comes to her rescue and after fixing it they fall in bed pretty fast.

He seems to sense that she's a submissive and since he likes to go to a BDSM club and is a Dom, he lets her know what he expects. I actually like him even though at times he seems like a jerk. There is all kinds of family drama, secrets, a cancer scare, a crazy ex that won't eave Austin alone all the while they are trying to sort out what they mean to each other.

As if there weren't enough drama going on, people from Sierra's past start trying to cause problems for her and a new family member shows up out of the blue. I just felt like there was a lot going on in this book. I did like Sierra though, she is so kind-hearted and strong that I really took to her right away. I really thought that Austin and Sierra fit together really well. While the book was good I thought there was a lot of unnecessary drama thrown in.

Uhg. Too many story lines. Somebody really should have told her sometimes less is more. I really liked Austin and Sierra. I even liked the fact that the Montgomery family was so large, but keeping track of all of them and their respective significant others got a bit confusing. Would have been nice if we had been introduced slower without the various info dumps of every one of their complicated relationships. I didn't need to know all of that to read Austin's story. My main issues with this book was the D/s aspect and the multiple secondary storylines. I read BDSM light to hardcore depending on my mood. I have NO problem with that used in a story...if you actually use it. There is more talk about how all the Montgomerys have "kinks" than any actual kink. We never find out how a 19 year old Sierra actually got into the scene at such a young age and developed a D/s relationship with her past fiancé. We get one brief flogging scene and that's about it except for Sierra dropping into sub pose a few times. The rest of the sex was pure vanilla. Hot vanilla no doubt, but my point is, don't write BDSM just because it's the "thing" to do right now. Writing kink is not for everybody, so if you can't deliver what is expected after the tease then don't bother.
Now to the multiple storylines. How much can one couple expect to deal with? Apparently everything PLUS the kitchen sink. We've got some cancer (unresolved), a semi-stalker ex (who was completely useless to the story)a couple of dead exes, secret babies, insane parents of one dead ex, Shep and Shea's drama, unrequited crushes, marriages in trouble, etc. Just too much going on that I didn't feel added anything to the core story.

My friend recommended this author to me and I have to say I'm really glad she did. I read the first novellas so I was looking forward to this book. Austin had appeared in the first novella with Shep and Shea. Austin is Shep's cousin and they are actually very alike. Both sexy talk strong tattooed guys what more could I want. It was really good to get a bit more of Shep and Shea in this book. I really liked that they had a lil side story in this book it was great. It was also good to meet the rest of this huge family. I m really dying for more from this family. A few have really stood out so really looking forward to that.

Back to this book. Austin and Sierra are great characters they are quite different but like have some similar tastes in life. So they fit well. Sierra has had a really rough time but she is finally getting herself back on her feet with her boutique Eden. Sierra boutique is across from Austin tattoo shop Montgomery Ink. When they first met it's was the best of welcomes Austin wasnt his cheer self. He was just rude. But Sierra could help but notice of hot he was even though she could of punched him. But there attraction was instant. He liked her straight away she was the normal girl he would go for but he had to get to know her.

I really enjoyed this book and I would recommend it. The story was really good the little twist and turns were really good. Once I got stuck into the book I couldnt get enough. I had to know what was goin to happen. I liked the way the book was written as well having the side story was great i liked that. I'm really liking the other members of the family as well. I can't wait for more of this series. I have a feeling this family is goin to be one of my favourites.

4 & 4.5 STARS

This was a lively, interesting book with a fascinating plot, awesome characters, and some sizzling hot sex scenes.
Sierra Elder has finally put her past behind her and opened up her own boutique shop, right across from Montgomery Ink, where Austin Montgomery and his family hold sway. When she first meets Austin, he is rude and she decides she wants nothing to do with him. Austin has other ideas and the two start tiptoeing into a relationship. They find they are perfect for each other, with both of them wanting Austin in charge in the bedroom.
But even though they seem perfectly suited, family issues, past and present, start clouding their emotions, and threaten to derail their relationship. Can this brave, caring woman and the rough talking, overly protective man overcome the issues to find a happily ever after?
This is one of the Montgomery Ink series. Expect flogging and anal sex, but the BDSM element of the relationship is probably the least important. I will happily look for more books by this author.

Author Carrie Ann Ryan sucked me in with her first two Montgomery Ink books and now I can’t stay away. I love this crazy, large, and very vocal family and more than that I love how they take care of one another, how the support each other, and how they use tough love when it is warranted. It really doesn’t get much better than that; the Montgomery family is the Cosby’s of this generation with a twist (a kinky one) but that makes them even more real.

It is REALLY hard not to love a man who is ready to settle down because he wants the same type of relationship his parent’s have had for years (yep, insert the “awwww” soundtrack right now). Headed towards 40, Austin hasn’t met the right woman not by a long shot and his latest ex has turned into somewhat of a stalker coming on to him at home, via text and in the tattoo shop he owns with his sister. Big, burly, bearded, and tattooed Austin knows most people look at him and figure he’s an ex-con but in reality he’s a son, brother, uncle, and an all around nice guy. Unfortunately that’s not the first impression he makes on Sierra Elder when she walks in his shop to inquire about getting a tattoo.

Sierra can’t believe the judgmental oaf she encounters when she walks into Montgomery Ink but she’s not going to let him stop her from getting the tattoo she needs to move past the scars that cover her body. Tough, smart, and resilient Sierra is bound and determined to put the past behind her and get on with living her life.

I immediately connected with both of these characters and found them so intriguing and fun. That’s not to say they both didn’t have some baggage because as the story went on their baggage kept multiplying but what I loved is that they both managed to deal with it very well. I loved that from early on Austin saw what Sierra needed and was there to help her admit it and accept it. Sierra was completely accepting of all parts of Austin even parts he didn’t know about and I admire her ability to just roll with it without freaking out. I’m sure that’s largely due to everything she’s had to deal with in the last 10 years.

Ms. Ryan weaves many side stories into this book which only added to an already intricate and satisfying love story. As always this author doesn’t fail to captivate us with her sensual sex scenes with a little bit of kink thrown in to make it that much more interesting. I thoroughly enjoyed meeting all of the Montgomery clan and seeing characters from earlier books as well. They are a colorful and entertaining group and I can’t wait to see more of them as this series plays out.

Delicate Ink features a little suspense, a little kink, a whole lot of sexy fun, two made for each other characters and it is another fantastic book in the Montgomery Ink series.

3,5 rounded up 4 stars.
I went totally blind there and was disappointed it was BDSM. Not my cuppa.
It's like long prologue for two or more family saga's. There are a lot of brothers/ sisters, cousins...
The main couple was ok. He was an asshole first, then he was all over her... Ok.
He fucked up once, but shortly made things good with her.

Delicate Ink was a kindle offer, and its price is the only reason I didn't send it back.

DI is one of those books that aren't even good enough to rant, there's really nothing to rant about. It's simply badly written.

This the only cont romance I know with infodumps. Only rather than the world building you are ragaled with the MC's past or thoughts, everything in the first chaps, with no reasons for this. But then this story moves forward on the author sayso. It lacks depth, motivation, a serious plot. Writing is absurd (a string of words put together do not make a book) so is dialogue.

There are a string of events, subplot is too strong a word, that have no reason to be there, and diluite an already non existent tension. Characters are lifeless, not even a sketch, and lack coherence to boot.

Not my cup. But atthis price you can try it on, and see if just different tastes.

This was a freebie and an ok read. I don't think I'd rush out to read more of this series.

Couple of things marred it for me. First was that he was into bdsm, seemingly from nowhere. There was a flurry of these bdsm heroes a few years ago thanks to Mr Grey and it was never my thing. In this, it seemed kind of tacked on and it jarred with me when two minutes after a really hot first kiss that had all of the feels he's thinking about her in her knees submitting to him. Yawn. What a shame as he was hot and alpha enough without all of that cliche Dom shit.

The other thing was the huge cast of characters; he's one of seven plus there's a cousin and a couple of others. I struggled to keep track of everyone tbh. I suspect they're there in part to sustain a multi part series where everyone gets fixed up in their own story eventually. Hmmm.

Complete story and free on Amazon.

Sierra Elder owns the new boutique on the same block of Austin Montgomery's tattoo shop. He sees all class, and wrongly assumes his inked bearded image is turn off for someone like her. She is offended with his initial greeting. Of course this being a romance novel, opposites attract...yada yada yada.

This started out okay but I got annoyed with his too big family from previous, and future books. Then drama characters from her past came on the scene with their cartoon threats finally forced me to DNF. This was too close to a previous read I didn't enjoy, and didn't want to repeat the experience.

Love the Montgomery family

This is the Denver Montgomery's with some New Orleans Montgomery's thrown in. Book one is Austin and Sierra's story as headliners but more Montgomery 's as side characters and storyline holds your attention and heart with them all.
If you love some amazing characters, storyline, big family by blood and love, sexy times with continued characters, you'll love the Montgomery clan!
3.5 stars would have been 4 but ending kinda wrapped up too fast for my liking.
Hea, no ow/om, crazy ex's, and crazier ex in laws! Heat with very mild bdsm context.

I loved Austin, "yes, that's my name," he growled against her neck, one hand on her head, the other on her lower back. "You're going to be saying it over and over again soon." He's so caring when it comes to his woman, "come on, baby girl. You did so well. You look so effing hot right now with my marks on you." He picked her up and pulled her to his chest." He's protective, "Austin growled again then kissed her hard. Right there in front of the entire Montgomery clan. "For them and for you. If it wasn't for that, I'd beat the s*** out of him." He can be so damn playful, "Austin patted her a** and smiled even wider. "Eff yeah you're going to be a Montgomery. I can't wait." I can't wait for the rest of the gang to get a book this is going to be another series by Carrie that I love.

Austin Montgomery has not been in the best of tempers with an ex-girlfriend refusing to call it quits and family drama. Unfortunately, he takes his temper out on Sierra Elder who had come into his shop looking for a tattoo. Wanting a redo, Austin shows Sierra a different side of himself and they find they actually have quite a bit in common, more than they thought.

Sierra is trying to put her past behind her, but two people still seem intent on haunting her. With Austin, Sierra feels safe for once and as their relationship continues to grow, they find they have a to overcome a few unexpected hurdles that neither are sure they can handle.

The beginning of a new series by Carrie Ann Ryan, this started with a bang. Austin is pure alpha and you are instantly drawn in by his quirky family. You also get visits from some favorites from another series in New Orleans. Unexpected and thoroughly entertaining.

Weak, vacillating hero and boring heroine.

Massive info-dump with a ton of subplots and none of them even remotely interesting

Mild D/sub relationship, although -a flogger?

Don't waste your time with this boring non-romance.

I've read a few books by this author and have always been entertained so it was with great relish that I sat down to read this the first in her new series. This is a series set amongst the boisterous Montgomery family and a delight for those who enjoy reading about sexy tattooed guys and headstrong women . This larger than life family are set to charm even the hardest heart and this story about the eldest son has surprising twists that will surely keep readers rapidly turning the pages .
Austin is the eldest son but unlike most of his brothers he hasn't gone into the family construction business but instead has started his own tattoo shop . He is a man with particular "needs" and just hasn't found quite the right woman to satisfy his soul but Austin would really like to finally meet a woman that completes him. Unfortunately somehow that doesn't seem to be on the cards but everything changes when new girl in town Sierra walks into his shop!
Sierra has had a difficult few years and has finally plucked up the courage to relocate and try to rebuild her life so the last thing she needs is a tattooed hunk mouthing off at her! That's exactly what happens though when she gets on the wrong side of the sinfully sexy Austin but all is not quite what it seems. They may have got off to a bad start but Sierra is not letting that put her off and she's determined to go back and get her first tattoo. Austin knows he was an ass so when the opportunity to lay both his ink and his hands on the tempting Sierra comes he's not about to mess it up but there's something between them that just awakens all his senses. Austin is determined that Sierra will join him in exploring the connection between them!
Oo I really enjoyed this and loved the twists that the author added and trust me you won't see the big surprise coming! What I didn't like was the instant lust but that's a personal quirk of mine and I do get that for these two characters it works well. Sierra is emotionally and physically scarred and yet with Austin around she feels beautiful and I loved that he could do that for her. He seems to see the woman beneath the skin and it made me like him so much more because frankly at times I wanted to shake Austin! Still when they connected there were most definitely fireworks as the sexual tension between them was palpable. Sierra has more in common with Austin then she realises but it's a slow road to trust and so very worth it.
As for the world building well this is a family with great dynamics and I foresee lots of ways the author can take this series. It's not all hearts and flowers though so expect the unexpected as grown up issues that are not always tackled in romance do rear their somewhat ugly head at times. I found this book to be thoroughly entertaining and can't wait to see what happens next to the Montgomery clan oo and there's a certain Saint briefly mentioned who has got to be a bad boy to die for! I'm so pleased I read this book and happily recommend to anyone looking for a fabulous read!

This is the first long book in this series and it's amazing ^^

Austin was introduced in the first novella and it was apparent that he was not feeling right, but we were kept clueless till this book.

I liked the main characters, and the Montgomery Family the most. The main couple were strong mentally and emotionally, facing what been thrown at this in their short relationship isn't easy. I liked the steel on Sierra the most, having a past like that then knowing her boyfriend's father is having cancer then a love child of the boyfriend show up may have bulked some but not her. I liked that she fit in in his life, that he does the same in hers.

- I loved how they instantly settled into a family situation so smoothly, loved how the kid attached himself to Sierra at once, how the dad and the son were so identical in looks and behavior that it was more than cute, I loved the confession time at the last chapter when it started with the kid.

- I noticed something, Austin wasn't the type who deals with crisis's right or instantly, he just freezes but after a while he can start reacting, first it happened with his father's news, then the appearance of his son, slowly he's recovering and joining in.

- The old in-laws were beyond crazy, they literally were mental, they needed to be taken not just to jail but a mental facility years ago, the things they said and did were beyond obsession.

- I didn't liked the secret thing that happened between Shep and Shea it was really idiotic and in a way strained their relationship a bit, but the good thing about the men in this series is that they are pushy, when they want something they push for it.

- And the stalkers part in this book was in a way creepy, the ex from one side, then the ex-in-laws for another side, and both were stalker-like

Overall, *thumbs up*

I took a break from some serious reads to read—what I thought—would be a quick and fun romance. While it WAS quick, it was also very clearly not for me and kind of a mess. I'm not going to review this in full because to be honest... I didn't feel strongly enough about Delicate Ink to write a lot about it.

Too trope-filled, kind of confused as to whether it wanted to be a BDSM novel or not, and wayyyy too many side characters and sub-plots introduced for a first novel in a romance series. Agh.

Delicate Ink was my first ever Carrie Ann Ryan book, and I will definitely read more by her! Sierra and Austin were both great characters to get to know. And I loved Austin's huge... family ;)
The tattoo part of the story was well done (and now, I want another tattoo!), as was the way Sierra's past caught up with her at the most inopportune time.
Well written, with a pinch of suspense, this romance worked very well for me.

I first read the book with the story about Alex and Tabby (Ink Exposed (Montgomery Ink # 6)) so I came back to read the series from the beginning.
I recommend reading in order because in addition to the story about the main couple there are also several background events that are interesting for understanding the facts in the series. Throughout the reading we learn about the lives of the other brothers as well and the curiosity about the other books increases.
I liked the heroes and recommend reading.

I spotted DELICATE INK while perusing my BookBub deals. It was my first time reading a Carrie Ann Ryan novel, but the sexy tatted muscles synopsis called to me. I mean, ink, piercings, sexy bearded men? Hell yeah I picked it up! I’m so thankful I did because now I have so many wonderfully dirty books to binge read.

DELICATE INK is a delicious erotic contemporary about two unlikely people drawn to one another by unwanted attraction. As they continue to grow closer, they must confront scars from their past to secure a future together. While perhaps the plot isn’t the most original, the execution gave me a new favorite author!

Austin Montgomery, the oldest of eight and co-owner of Montgomery Ink, the hottest tattoo parlor in Denver, is ready to settle down, but believes his look and occupation will make it difficult for him to attract the right woman for him. Though sparks fly when they first meet, he certainly doesn’t believe Sierra right for him. Though he’s instantly attracted to her, he quickly dismisses her as too snobby and “ritzy” for his taste and wrongly assumes she wouldn’t be able to handle his flavor of kink.

“No matter what scars you have, Sierra, you’ll always be beautiful. No amount of ink or scars will make your skin anything but perfect to me.”

Disappointed, I was about to label the man a judgmental jerk when he swiftly warms up to Sierra the more he got to know her. He even – gasp! – apologizes for being an asshole and judging a book by its cover. Nothing is better than when a main character realizes he isn’t perfect and owns up to his mistakes.

Sierra Elder is also a character one can’t help but cherish. She’s a strong and independent woman who goes out of her way to overcome her worst fears, even when she’s shaking in her boots. I admired this about her – and couldn’t help but want to give her cuddles of encouragement!

DELICATE INK was a naughty and heart-warming romance with a full cast of characters to fall in love with. It’s perfectly re-readable and I cannot wait to read more of the Montgomery family!
