Alec Forgive me, father, for I am about to sin. She’s my addiction. My drug of choice. Mine. But she doesn’t know that. Yet… But come Halloween night, she will be mine. Even if I need to hunt her down, Hayden Macey will be mine. Run baby run.
Hayden Everywhere I turn, I feel like someone’s there, watching me. Watching every move I make. And just to make things worse, I have to work the night of Halloween at our town’s haunted carnival. No matter where I run, where I hide, the feeling is always there. But now I’m not so sure it’s a feeling anymore…
D. Sabia, also known as Dani Sabia, is an author who writes dark romance novels, immersing readers in a world of forbidden love and twisted desires. She lives in a small town in upstate NY with her husband. When she's not writing, you'll find her gaming on her PC, reading dark romances, crafting, or, her absolute fave, napping.
...I...I'm at a loss as to how to rate this. Because on one hand, I would read more about these characters and more from the author, but on the other, some scenes made me uncomfortable and others made me cringe.
The stuff I'm about to mention is in the trigger warnings by the way, so not a spoiler, but if you don't have any triggers and want to go into this blind then you can stop reading now.
So, one of the things I want to mention is "forced piercing" in which the mc gives the fmc a piercing...by force. And as someone who has multiple piercings I was just cringing so hard at how unhygienic the whole thing had to be.
Oddly enough, this was not my first time encountering that in a book, the other one had a demon doing it, I didn't cringe any less there but I assume it was completely sterilised by demon fire or something, who knows.
Anyway, I know Alec used alcohol beforehand, but he was not a piercer and I just don't find that hot I'm sorry. He could've hurt her.
Which brings me to the dubcon which is definitely present. Hayden doesn't know who's chasing her, hunting her down and she's scared, she's saying no all the way up until she finds out it's Alec and then she's like oh now that I know it's him I find this even hotter. And yeah I'm not really a fan of that.
PLUS, ok this next bit might be a little spoilery for the smut so look away, the very first thing he did was use a knife on her before she even knew who he was...and I don't really know what it is with Halloween novella authors and shoving knives where they aren't meant to go but...
Anyway, I am not opposed to knives in books as long as they don't go up anything, and that happened here twice. The second time he shoved it in at the same time as his dick and she was a virgin too like SIR CALM DOWN. This is her first time ever and you're gonna do her like that??? In a church too??? Have some respect.
I also would've liked a bit more backstory about their prior relationship because it feels incomplete. For this type of story I think it would've worked out better if he was just a random stranger stalker because we would know exactly the same amount about him as we know about Alec.
But maybe that will be fixed in whatever comes next, their relationship could be more developed etc. Like I said, I would like to read more about them, there is something there despite what I mentioned above. But yeah, be aware of the triggers going in and don't take this book too seriously.
“Alec, wait please” I beg. He ignores me and rubs his shaft up and down a few times. “Father, forgive me,” he says with a heavy sigh, “for I am about to sin.”
the jinn in my room watching me read this book at 4 am:
Holy fucking shiznuts… I know Alec says to run but gods I want to run TO him not away!
Run Baby Run was so fucking hot that even the Devil would blush and fan himself reading it! Thank goodness D. Sabia seems to intend to write more of Hayden and Alec because I sure as hell wasn’t ready for that to be the end of their relationship. I’ve read some dark, sexy, messed up shit before but NEVER have I seen a forced piercing and Lordy did it make me feel some type of way *drools*… Clearly I’m fucked in the head and in need of more therapy.

Overall: ⭐️⭐️ Readability: 📖📖 (There were a lot of errors and mistakes, to the point that I – me, the typo queen – was bothered by it.) Feels: 🦋🦋 Emotional Depth: 💔 You know the bare minimum about these two, but it is a short story Sexual Tension: ⚡⚡ Romance: 💞 (I can LOVE dubcon and noncon but I didn’t find this book romantic at all. No feels. Only cringe.) Sensuality: 💋💋💋 The actual sex was okay to me – it was explicit but missed a lot of that emotional pull I crave Sex Scene Length: 🍑🍑🍑🍑 Steam Scale (Number of Sex Scenes): 🔥 (It’s basically one extended scene for this short story) Humor: Ummm no? Maybe? I didn’t find it funny but I think it’s there for some people Perspective: first person from both hero and heroine More character focused or plot focused? plot? Sex? How did the speed of the story feel? fast When mains are first on page together: It takes awhile, about 43% into this short story Cliffhanger: Yes – this ends with an open ending...it’s not a happy for now but kind of implied there’s a possiblity of a continuation of the relationship...the ending does say ‘the end for now….’ so I’m not sure if there’s more coming. Epilogue: There is a chapter listed as epilogue but it’s just a day or so in the future and very brief Format: read this book through kindle unlimited in e-book form Why I chose this book: I saw a post by @monsterlovers_bookclub on instagram and had to try it! (Descriptions found at end of my review)
Should I read in order? It’s fine to read this alone
Basic plot: Hayden has to work the night of the Halloween carnival and meets her stalker
Give this a try if you want: - contemporary erotic horror (not really a romance) - shorter novel - curvy heroine - stalker hero - ravishment fantasy - you’re okay with nonconsensual acts - mid to higher steam – there is basically one extended sex act, but it’s most of the story
Ages: - didn’t see them mentioned
First line: I stumble out of the house of mirrors, panting heavy and shaking.
My thoughts: Oof, I struggled with this one! I was so excited to see another short, masked hero book, but this one didn’t do it for me at all.
If you are looking for pure ravishment fantasy with lots of noncon from the hero and a touch of darkness, I think you should give this one a go!
As for me, I didn’t connect with the writing. I am VERY forgiving of typos and errors. I know they happen (just look at literally anything I post). I know editors miss things and it’s human nature. But this one felt really raw and unedited to me. Multiple (like...every page) missing commas, punctuation, missing words in sentences...repetitive. It just wasn’t very readable to me. I am all for swearing in my reads, but ‘shit’ and ‘fuck’ were in like every sentences and it just started to feel juvenile to me.
The author portrays the heroine as overweight, which I was here for! But doesn’t really comment on the hero’s size in comparison so when it’s said that ‘her small body writhing beneath me’ I was like, why isn’t he admiring her curves??
This book was mostly cringe for me, not much I loved. Along with the overtones of religion I was just not feeling it.
Few random reading stats for this author # of books read: This is my first Average rating: 2 stars Favorite book: I guess this one?? I’m thinking I wouldn’t read this author again sadly.
Quotes So, usually I will own all typos and mistakes as my own because I make them constantly. But this one I did try to copy the text verbatim – there’s a lot of typos and errors in this one, missing commas and punctuation, etc
Content warnings: These should be taken as a minimum of what to expect. It’s very possible I have missed some.
Locations of kisses/intimate scenes, safe sex aspects, consent, pregnancy/child in the story: Safe sex: Nope. Hows the consent? Oh, it’s not there AT ALL. This is a total ravishment fantasy, so if you prefer consent in your books avoid this one. Pregnancy/children in story? (Please note this is the best to my memory/note taking. If you see something I missed please feel free to message!) No children in this story or talk of pregnancy. 58% - hero chases the heroine in the house of mirrors, then a corn maze. When he catches her, he undresses her with his knife. Penetration with the knife handle. Hero binds the heroine’s wrists with a rosary. Leads soon into a church scene, where the hero gags the heroine, hangs her by her rosary beads, and puts a nipple clamp on her boob then pierces her nipple. Sex (virginity loss for heroine), then the hero pulls out, retracts his knife and DPs the heroine with his cock and knife handle

Full break down on what my ratings above mean here: Overall: How I felt about it everything considered! Readability: How ‘readable’ was the book? Did I fly through it? Did I have to tell myself to pick it back up repeatedly? Were any passages confusing? (I will probably score like (1) is literally unreadable due to formatting/typing errors, etc (2) There were lots of errors that made it difficult to read OR It was extremely confusing and I had to reread passages to make sense of it OR I disliked it so much I had to bribe myself to keep reading (3) I didn’t really want to keep reading and would have preferred to abandon the read and start something else OR some minor continuity issues/confusion (4) I liked it fine, maybe a minor error or 2. I was happy to pick it up when I had time. (5) I never wanted to put this down. I thought about it when I wasn’t reading it. I hid in the bathroom from my kids to read. I threw inappropriate food at my children for dinner so I could read instead.) Feels: Totally subjective to each person but did the book give me any tingles? Any butterflies? Did it rip my heart out (in a good way?) Emotional depth: How well do I feel I know the characters at the end? How much did I feel their emotions throughout the story? Sexual tension: Again, subjective, but how strong was the wanting and longing to me between the characters? A book might have strong sexual tension without a single touch. Romance: Was there romance? Did romantic things happen? This can be actions/words/thoughts of the characters and again is subjective. Sensuality: This is how the intimate scenes are written. Kisses and sexual scenes – how sensual were they? Were they on the mechanical side? Was there emotional pull tied in? Were the details explicit or flowery? These are subjective but generally (1) too short to get a good judgement (2) not all what I'm looking for - very vague or flowery prose (3) either not explicit enough or not enough emotional pull (too mechanical/physically descriptive without the emotions) (4) what I love in a scene (5) absolute perfection - perfect balance of emotional longing and explicit descriptions Sex Scene Length: How long the bedroom scenes are (generally (1) is 1-3 sentences (2) is a few paragraphs to a page-ish (3) is about average, a few pages (4) more well developed scenes, quite a few pages with descriptions (4) the majority of the book takes place in the bedroom. This is always hard to tell for me on audio! Steam Scale: Generally, each flame is a scene. If scenes are super close together I sometimes combine them. If a scene is super short or so vague I don’t know what’s happening, I don’t count it. There’s some levels of grey but generally the number of flames is how many sex scenes there are (I max out at 5 so I’ll put a + after if there’s more than that)
Short and hot read for Halloween but would have benefited from being a bit longer and having more back story between the characters. I couldn’t connect with them and it all felt a bit rushed. There’s one spicy scene which is noncon but I think from the end scene it’s implied it’s actually dubcon but I’m not 100% sure. Honestly just a few more pages of context would have really helped.
I liked the addition of the 🔪 with the 🍆, not seen it done like that before.
There’s some errors including jumping between different tenses in the same paragraph and missing words, if you can get past that then I’m so happy for you because my brain cannot.
I don’t understand where the prologue fits into the story? I think it’s a tease of the cornfield scene later on in the story but what happens doesn’t quite match up so I’m not sure.
It’s the end “for now” so hopefully Alec and Hayden will get something full length because I’d like to see more of them.
I think I’m desensitised to triggers now because I didn’t find this dark but make sure you check the warnings before you read!
I want more... I need more from these characters. This was dark, dirty, spicy 5/5, and mmm just so damn good. Mask man and a curvy virgin... oh it's just so good for being such a short book. I will be telling all my friends to read this for Halloween spicy reads. If you loved That Sik Luv like I did! Well this has those same vibes. I could go on and on about it but instead of reading my review go read this book.
This was a GOOD short read! I love the vibes, and the spice was 🥵 Alec is the kind of toxic that you’ll never openly admit to loving, but crave in private. Holy boy in the streets, psychotic demon in the sheets. I may be biased because I really enjoy a holy man theme, but this was hot AF. I really hope we get to see more of their story!
This was quick, dirty, and utterly taboo. I liked the whole chasing and tying up thing, the stalking, and most of the sex was hot. I am personally not into knife play, but it fit into the story. Alec was a true villain, masquerading as the pious son of a preacher and took great pleasure in his sacrilegious debauchery.
Spice: 3/5
Triggers: noncon, knife play, violence, fatphobia (from side character, some internalized), stalking, choking, kidnapping
I’m sorry, this book was very repetitive and the sentence structures along with the typos made me want to gauge my eyeballs out with a rusty spoon.
The content warnings at the beginning are a little questionable because it states that only a few are listed but not all of them and at the end of the list it says “and sooo much more…” this should’ve been a sign for me not to read this, not because I could potentially find something triggering (which is very hard for me to do) but because it probably showed that what I was about to consume wasn’t gonna be any good.
Not to mention, THE PLOT HOLES.
How did she lock the door from the outside if she was already inside the attraction? According to the book, it can’t be unlocked from the inside.
Tell me why she recognized Alec’s voice in the corn maze when she couldn’t see his face but then when she saw and heard him at the church’s doors 10 minutes later she didn’t put two and two together until it was too late. Also, her wrists were bound by a rosary… has the author ever touched one of those? They’re so fragile and always break.
You’re also telling me that this deranged psychopath hung her by her wrists on a nail (with a brittle rosary holding all of her weight, mind you) and she gave in and kissed him back to bite his tongue instead of kicking him on the balls? What’s biting gonna do?
A perfect opportunity was wasted when instead of grabbing the candles and dripping wax on her naked body he just decides to pierce her nipple????
And then after being obviously raped by this monster she shows up to the church service the next Sunday? IF THIS IS NOT DELULU I DON’T KNOW WHAT IS.
Rant over.

"Father forgive me," he says with a heavy sigh, "for I am about to sin"
Damn, this story was hot as hell! I just love a bad, dirty, church boy and Alec was exactly that! It was only 51 pages long, so I didn’t expect much out of it, but I’ll be damned if I wasn’t pleasantly surprised. Was it perfect? No, it wasn't. There were some editing issues with grammar and punctuation, but that didn't detract from my enjoyment. I do however, wish this had been a full length novel as what I read only increased my appetite for more.
While the author has provided a good basis for the characters, I can't help but feel that the story would have been so much better if she'd included some character development and introduced the plot in a way that didn’t just focus on the carnival night.
However, there is a silver lining, as the end of the story is titled “The End...for Now”, so I’m hoping that the author will use this as an opportunity to do some rewrites and take this story to a "darker" place. But for now, this is a really good Halloween novella with the potential of becoming so much more. I will definitely be back for the next book!
“Keep f*cking around, and an alter cloth won’t be the only thing g@gg!ng you,”
I'm angry with this book, angry at it for being too freaking short! Idk what it is with carnival settings this Halloween, but I'm here for it 😍😍
Alec is completely unhinged, and for being a Preachers Son, dripping with sin. I need more, I need to understand where his obsession with Hayden started!
In just 51 pages, I found myself wanting more of these characters. After this book, and that sik luv, I will never look at churches the same! 🙏🏻😳
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Spice level: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ Run Baby Run by D. Sabia Was looking for a quick read before the end of June and this book came up in my suggestions. This book was a good short read, especially if you’re missing Halloween in this summer heat! Hayden feels like she’s being watched ever since attending the church camp. Her best friend signs them up to work the Halloween carnival. Alec has been watching her from a distance since he was her counselor at the church camp. He’s been watching her, waiting for Halloween to have her. No one will suspect a thing since Alec is the preacher’s son. “Father, forgive me, for I am about to sin.” Please check triggers before reading 🖤
This was a quick 50 page read. It was okay. Still entertaining, but I didn’t feel that “wow” factor. I loved the concept of the preachers son. There were quite a few missing words that I kept getting hung up on, but like I said, overall entertaining if you’re looking for just a quick read in between longer books or something spooky. Takes place at a carnival and then a church, and he’s masked.
Run baby Run...right into Alec's arms🔥🔥🔥Holy hell, this was hot. Thank God it sounds like the author plans to give us a full length book about Hayden and Alec because I was left wanting so much more.
I went in with high hopes for a good predator/prey fic, but the amount of punctuation errors and the fact that it was obvious at some parts that there was no copyediting threw me off. I finished it so there's that, and I liked the characterization of the main characters.
Short super spicy novella! Halloween themed and a masked stalker… check your trigger warnings for sure! If you don’t have any triggers this one’s for you!
