It takes nothing less than a fateful natural disaster to throw two opposites together in a ground-shakingly charming short story by the New York Times bestselling author of Drunk on Love.
This Valentine’s Day, Daisy Murray has her heart set on binge-watching rom-coms. Instead, an earthquake traps her inside a bakery with its impossibly rude and insufferably handsome owner and head baker. They already have a history: she’s always smiled, he’s always scowled. Where better to finally get to know each other than amid the disaster? Then again, they have no choice. Besides, it could have its sweet, undeniable, and unpredictable perks.
Jasmine Guillory’s Drop, Cover, and Hold On is part of The Improbable Meet-Cute, irresistibly romantic stories about finding love when and where you least expect it. They can be read or listened to in one sitting. Let’s make a date of it.
Jasmine Guillory is a graduate of Wellesley College and Stanford Law School. She is a Bay Area native who has towering stacks of books in her living room, a cake recipe for every occasion, and upwards of 50 lipsticks.
1.25⭐ It was only 40 pages, so I don’t have much to say. It wasn't anything special and I don't understand how the mmc claimed that he liked her all along, but is always glaring at her. I didn't really feel anything for this short story.
★2 stars Hmmm wasn't expecting it to get almost smutty but Daisy was a no for me 😵💫
EAT YOUR FAV BAKERY SWEETS WHENEVER YOU WANT LIFE IS TOO SHORT 🧁
----------------- Pre-Review: Lmao this one is rated even lower but I'm a sucker for punishment and can't leave the series unfinished 😅 At least it's only 40 pages! 🏃🏻♀️
Oh no... Two readings in a row that I didn't like at all
The main character is so unbearable and stupid, seriously, it's impossible for a person to be THAT stupid 💀
And...seriously? The first thing that comes to your mind after being in an earthquake is having sex with a guy who, 2 hours ago, you thought hated you? The story doesn't make any kind of sense 😭

This is the 4th novella in the Improbable Meet-Cute series, a series of 6 novellas written by popular romance authors. I've accidently went out of order while I've been reading these, and this is the 3rd book I've read from the series. I have not liked the last 2. I am starting to think novellas are just not my thing because they aren't long enough to have much of a storyline. I need more than what these novellas are giving me to get invested. This one was super corny, and there was no chemistry felt at all. I like Jasmine Guillory's books and I know she can write well so I'm not sure what happened here. This is the first one in the series I've read that has had some spice. I was thinking I was going to give up on this novella series but there is one by Abby Jiminez and I really love her books so hoping hers will be a winner for me!!!
Similar to the last book in this series (Rosie and the Dreamboat) this book takes place during one scene and I think that’s the reason I had trouble connecting with the characters and the romance. I think if this was a little longer, it would have been better for me.

I don't know what to say about this one. A grumpy man secretly in love with a client, because she's too good, too smiley to notice? Until an earthquake put them together…
Drop, Cover, and Hold On by Jasmine Guillory Improbable Meet Cute Collection. Contemporary romance novella centered around a meet cute on Valentine’s Day. All six can be read on their own. Daisy Murray has been going to the local bakery since it opened. She absolutely loves all the pastries. The owner always throws her a fierce scroll her way and Daisy is sure he hates her. So she vows to stop going. But she loves the hand pie so much she goes in anyway on Valentine’s Day where she first sees everything has been sold out and then there is an earthquake and she is stuck in the bakery with the owner.
Impressions are everything. He frowns and looks mean. She has a “resting smile face”. Their time trapped in the bakery makes them talk to each other and Daisy finds out why she always gets an extra pasty in her bag. Look beyond first impressions. You don’t know what they are actually thinking. 3.5
uh... no. i couldn't feel a single ounce of chemistry, their conversations felt weird, and the jump from that to them kissing and having sex was so anticlimactic. i'm confused on what was this 😕
Drop, Cover, and Hold On, Jasmine Guillory Narrator: Aure Nash
We finally got a kiss! And an erection! There’s nothing like a good we-almost-died make-out and near third base sesh. This is the first novella in the anthology where they actually kiss on page lol. It felt like it could’ve been pulled out of the If the Sky Is Falling anthology which is a HUGE plus.
This one felt more like a full story because it didn’t only center meet-cute…which didn’t even happy because it was a meet-disaster almost? I felt like I got to know the characters more.
✨Valentine’s Day ✨Baker hero ✨Pastry porn ✨Forced proximity ✨Grumpy/sunshine
Narrator performance: Fantastic, A+, no notes! I don’t recognize that narrator’s name so I don’t think I’ve listened to her work before, but I hope to again!

I received an eARC via NetGalley. All opinions are honest and my own.
Reread for bingo. On second listen, I’m dropping my rating to 3.5⭐️. It’s cute but not my favorite.
When an earthquake traps Daisy Murray inside her favorite bakery with the grumpy baker who does nothing but scowl, the two have no choice but to finally get to know one another.
When I think of Valentine’s Day, it’s hard not to think of baked goods and decedent desserts. Guillory takes us right there with this super cute foodie romance involving a grumpy baker and a sunshine customer who just so happens to have a “resting smile face.” I’ll admit to a moment of frustration that our MC was so blind to the obvious, but overall this adorable novella was such a ray of sunshine, I can forgive her.
Read if you like: •grumpy x sunshine •foodie romance •he falls first •forced proximity
As with any jasmine guillory book, WAY too much exposition. And the dialogue is so simplistic. Why do the characters narrate every minute thought in their heads? Its exhausting.
This is the 4th book in the Improbable Meet-Cute series on Kindle Unlimited. As I read through this series of little short stories I’m quickly realizing that they are just getting worse. I’m hesitant to keep going.
I’ve never read a book by this author. Prob not the smartest to start with this disaster. So many things wrong here but I won’t mention in an effort to not seem like a total meanie.
I listened to this on my way to work this morning. The narrator was good but the dialogue and cringey moments were just too much. The ending was awful. Not my thing.
It’s a good thing Christina Lauren and Abby Jimenez opened this series with the first two books. Read those, but I’d stop there.
Ugh I struggled with this one. It was short, which was a plus, and I did like the concept of being trapped together after an earthquake, but that was about it. I didn’t love the narrator’s voice for the MMC, which made it incredibly hard to get into. It also moved quickly, and I get that it’s a short story, I just don’t understand how you can decide you love someone and they are perfect for you without ever having a conversation with them, which is what the MMC did immediately after meeting her. Then he continued to still not talk to her for however long she was coming to the bakery. Just weird. To me it doesn’t feel believable and takes me right out of the story.
