Uncovering You #1

The Contract

Rate this book
When I wake up in a dark, unfamiliar room, I have no idea what's waiting for me in the shadows. My imagination conjures up demons of the worst kind.

Reality is much worse:

A collar with no leash. A prison with no walls. And a life stripped of meaning.

I am presented with a vile contract and asked to sign. It outlines the terms of my servitude. The only information I have about my captor are the two small letters inked at the bottom:

J.S.

Armed with only my memories, I must do everything I can to avoid becoming ensnared in his twisted mind games. But in the end, it all comes down to one choice:

Resist and die.

Or submit, and sign my life away.

Dark scale (1-10): 3
Mindfuck scale (1-10): 5

The full story of Lily (captive) and J.S. (captor) unfolds over multiple volumes of approximately 125 pages each, like serials. Each volume, though, is a FULL story with a climax and conclusion. Uncovering You 2, will be available April 20, 2014. Also subtitled as Submission.

This first installment served to entice and draw in the reader to HOW Lily ended up kidnapped. You are given a front row seat to her jumbled up mind and taken back in time through multiple flashbacks that slowly start to bring out the truth.

This was more of a mindfuck for the character in question, not for the reader; nevertheless it was nicely done so it gets a higher rating. No gritty scenes, but what has happened leaves much to be anticipated, despite the low dark rating.

My thoughts:

Overall, this was a fast read I liked. As a reader who loathes time gaps or any kind of leap back and forth, I was surprised that I didn't exactly hate the book structure here. The beginning was a little confusing as it depicted scenes of the future, something that was never brought up again in the rest of this book. Certain things like the contract, J.S. being a billionaire, the captivity conditions, all reminded me of other dark reads and those reminders going off in my head derailed me from fully enjoying the book. This is more of a slow mindfuck read than it is dark, and though nothing spectacular has happened so far, the buildup to the end and then the ending itself leaves a lot to be questioned. Definitely interested in seeing what the author has in store for Lily and J.S. in book 2!

Ending:

Uncovering You is out now :)) $0.99 deal! Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk or Barnes and Noble

3.5 Intriguing stars
I am so tired. I am so lonely. I am breaking, and madness is taking hold.

Uncovering You begins with Lilly waking up in a dark room, alone and confused, knowing nothing good could come of this, she realizes that she is being held captive without any clue as to why or by whom. Without any chains or rope to bind her, she is trapped with a collar, teased with the freedom that is just a few steps away, unless she wants to feel the bite of pain there is no way out.
With nothing but my thoughts for company, I draw myself back to my memories, trying to summon the strength I once had.

After receiving cryptic notes, a contract appears demanding her obedience. Her “Employer” J.S., leaves her alone with her thoughts, starving and dirty…how many days has gone by??? she is wilting away with barely enough food to live. Lost in her memories of her past, she tries to find the strength that she knows she has deep down.

She has two choices, resist and die or submit, and sign her life away.

This was a very interesting read… I have to admit I was a bit lost at times especially in the beginning where were going back through her memories, trying to understand what it would mean to her future. I felt like I was reading different stories, but one thing remains the same, she is a prisoner…Things started to click when we were introduced to her memory of a man, who had the power to do whatever he wanted, whenever he wanted. In my opinion he was an asshole, but at the same time I couldn’t help but like that about him. Lilly is a determined and stubborn, refusing help, wanting to do everything on her own, proving she is strong but at the same time naive.

It annoys me that I have to wait for more, because it was just starting to get good...but according to the author Uncovering You unfolds over multiple volumes of approximately 125 pages each. Each volume is a fully-contained story with a climax and conclusion. I started off thinking it was going to be another captive story, but something tells me were gonna get that and oh so much more. Can’t wait for the next one…

Review
I don’t even know how to start this….after I went through a bit of confusion popping back and forth between time, I sucked this book up in less than 2 hours.  I was held captive – in a good way – not like our heroine is in the story.

I loved how the book switched from the present to the far past to the near past….am I confusing you?  Well, the book doesn’t – at least not after about 10% in.

Was it dark?  Ehhhh….yes and no….not yet – this first story I believe is setting up the plot for the rest of the book.  We meet our heroine and we get a glimpse of her relationship to come with the mysterious JS.  I would say this is more of a mind fuck for the character waking up in a strange place and not having any memory of how she ended up there or why she is even there.

I also enjoyed how the author threw some mysterious happenings in the mix….I just have to say pay attention to the hole and the bird that goes “Caw Caw” hmmm??? I’m dying to know where that fits into the rest of the story.

What did I not like about it?  The same complaint I have with every series that are so short….anticipation for the next book in the series….and wait…..get this…..the book doesn’t come out till the end of March….and I’ll have to wait a few weeks after that to get to the next book – OH THE HORROR…..there that is my MIND FUCK for the reader!!

I can’t give you a recap of this story since it’s too far until the release…but I will leave you with these parting thoughts….

This is the story about Lilly Rider, growing up with an alcoholic mother... proving to herself that she will never become like her, she focused on her education. Now, on her third year in College... blinded by an offer she couldn't refuse... she never expected she would end up getting kidnapped!

I can't say how much I love Lilly's character... she is tough!!! She is definitely not going down without a fight! Love her spirit and I rooted for her to never give up, to fight!!!!

The story flashes back from the past to the present. It'll give you the insight of everything about Lilly and to what lead her to getting kidnapped.

I'm curious more and more about J.S.... I wanna know more about him!!!!

This is just the beginning of Lilly's story.... and it will leave you at the edge of your seat. Reading the prologue at the start of the book has got me little confused... but knowing after, that it was just a little taste of what's to come, it's a bit frustrating cause I want more!

I wanna say more but I don't wanna spoil the book for everyone being this is a short read consisting of more or less 125 pages. This is written in Lilly's POV.

It does end in...

which left me feeling....

That said, I WANT THE NEXT BOOK ASAP!

Definitely well written.

Okay, so here's the deal, I LOVED this book. Er...novella? It's serial story and each book contains 125 pages each. The author states that each story will have a climax and a conclusion. The next book will be out on April 20 of this year. For me...the girl who just couldn't put the story down...well let's just say that's a LONG time to wait.

Lilly wakes up to a dark, unfamiliar room with no thoughts on how she got there in the first place. She has a collar around her neck that has two electrodes and a chip inside. That only means one thing...if she gets too far from where she is supposed to be, she'll get electrocuted.

Dare I say that Lilly is one tough girl. She did't have the easiest upbringing but that never stopped her from going to college. She was determined to get a degree and nothing or no one would stop her.

She gets the opportunity of a lifetime when she submits an essay where she is nominated to win the prestitious Barker Prize. An award that students get nominated for by the professors in the pyschology field. She wins.

Her life will never be the same.

The story switches back between present and past, with the beginning containing bits and pieces in the future. It is all told from Lilly's pov.

Now remember this is part of a series of volumes...so the story might have ended but there will be more. If that makes sense? I know some people don't like this but I'm surpringly okay with it.

My stop for the blog tour will be on March 25. I hope you enjoy the book as much as I have had the pleasure of reading it.

**I'm changing my rating from an extremely generous two-stars down to one after some interesting tidbits I've just come across.**

Yet another 50 shades/Bared to You, etc. etc. copy-cat. And even worse than the originals.

The h even falls into the H when she meets him. In the lobby of his office building. A la Ana/Christian and Eva/Gideon. After which he bans the fed-ex guy who accidentally bumps into her (and apologizes, the asshole) from his building. 'Cause he be a young gazillionaire who owns his own company/ies and that's how he rolls, naturally.

But apparently that's not enough punishment for the accidental nudge so he extends the ban to all of Fed-Ex entirely, indefinitely. Or until they can teach their employees to never accidentally bump into another person in a crowded lobby, and prove it to him, I guess.

Naturally Ana...Eva...I mean, Lilly is utterly impressed by this and even more impressed when he steps on the elevator and the many people already occupying it promptly remove themselves. Cause, he be scary and important. And that's hot.

He says 'impressed?'...to which she responds...'they know you'.

Yes, cupcake. Those people who work in his building, for his company, aka his employees 'know him'. Apparently well enough to disappear quickly, tripping over themselves to get away from him, or 'file out, meek as mice'. Cause he's dreamy, I'm sure. Most kidnappers are, amiright?

He calls her 'astute'.

He also has the blackest eyes she's ever seen, so black she can see the purple underneath, and then compares them to sapphires?

Astute, indeed.

I'm not even going to get into the confusing (and seemingly pointless) plot of kidnapping and contracts or the wack-ass timeline of events which go from 2014 to 'present day' - which is 2013, to six months ago, eleven years ago, one month, three months ago and back again from chapter to chapter b/c who really fucking cares?

Not to mention the chapters are rarely longer than a page - some are a single paragraph - and overall the writing is even less impressive than the H/h themselves. .

No, thanks. Not going to be continuing and certainly not if the price is going from .99c to $3.99 for a 100 page serial of craptastic quality.

What a great way you start a series! It definitely got me hooked from start to finish

The story is well written since I imagine the place of captivity somewhat like the movie Saw, only this is not as gruesome as the movie. So you can imagine how tense I am for Lilly.

The story is not written in sequence since it jumps from the past and the present, last month, last week and as far as eleven years ago which actually kinda confusing at first, but eventually I got the hang of it. And even though I really want to dwell on what's happening in the present, reading about the past is also important, because I get to know more about Lilly and how it all started.

There's a bit of suspense here, since the story started off as Lilly being held as a captive already. The question then is who is her captor and why.

I like Lilly's strong character because she sure doesn't give up easily and she's also not a weakling.

I was kinda sad when I reached the end of this book, because it's so short, and I really.. REALLY want to know what will happen next.. Unfortunately, I would have to wait till April for the release of the next book.

As promised, this book comes with a climax and a conclusion, so the story is not that cliffhanger. Although you sure want to know how the story will progress.

Every installment for this series is set to be released every three weeks, so you better mark your calendars now because I'm sure gonna mark mine.

"A vague longing grows deep inside me. The need for submission. A natural willingness ground into me by the madness taking hold of my mind. I feel it rising. The demonic form consumes me from the womb, sapping my strength, and breaking my resolve."

Lilly Ryder wakes alone and in a strange place...how did she get there? When the lights go on she discovers she is tied to a marble pillar and has a collar around her neck. A contract is left for her and as she reads it she feels absolute horror- she's been kidnapped- however she doesn't agree to the terms and only knows her captor by two letters, his initials: J.S.

I've been reading A LOT of dark reads lately and one thing I highly respect is when an author adds something new or an element that I haven't read before. Lilly is held captive by a new and unique method to me- there's no ropes and chains but she's just as confined.

Although this is the first part of a bigger story- it isn't too dark yet but is very suspenseful! This novella shows rather than tells and the reader can fit the pieces together as we toggle through Lilly's present predicament and her most recent memories. I am left almost as desperate as Lilly in wanting the next piece of the story!

I highly recommend starting this serial novel- but don't expect to be able to put this down!

If this wasn't plagiarism then it's at least a cheap imitation of Aleatha Romig's "Consequences" series. That being said this is what I thought of the book (story; it's a serial).
I so disliked the MC Lily Ryder. Like so many today, she feels entitled. I couldn't tell if the author thought this was cute or if she wanted us to dislike Lily. Lily thinks it's OK to steal. When she gets laid off she takes the business credit card she had been issued and uses it until the company cancels it. She goes to a job interview in designer clothes with the sales tags tucked in so that she can return them afterwords. Although Lily is "poor" she chooses to go to a VERY expensive out-of-state University and racks up a big bill when she could have gone to a less expensive in-state University. She works toward a degree in psychology. An undergraduate degree that can get her a job as a shoe salesman at the mall when she is done. No not smart
Then, (stupid part of story) she gets offered a job offer of $120,000 annual with a marketing firm. But she doesn't have any experience in marketing and that's not what her degree is in (maybe it was her minor?). What is Ms Edwards doing? I wanted to slap Lily so many times, not just because of her poor choices but also because of her atitude when things went wrong "how dare they do this to her?" stomp, stomp, break cell phone.
Jamie, only grunts 1-2 word sentences. Please people, if you're going to read this. Borrow it from a library or friend.

1 stars :(

I skipped... a lot! Just too much present then past scenes. I mean, I don't find the scenes that interesting at all, I was friggin' bored and that ain't a good thing to start a novella! the 1st book should start with a 'bang!' and I couldn't even find something that would want me to read the rest of the series. But I did coz it's a waste, I already have 1-4, so why not, the story's short..

I just hope the story peaks up... or else... i'm gonna tell my friends not to read this.. :(

Is there a way to make this a full novel? probably rearrange or rewrite things? coz shit, the scenes...arghh.. it's boring.

Uncovering You by Scarlett Edwards is the first volume of the series and each book will consist of 125 pages. Ms. Edwards informs the readers that next installment Submission will be released on April 20,2014.

In this first installment, it starts off with Lilly Ryder alone trapped and held captive in a dark room. Lilly tries to recall events prior events that has caused her to end up where she is. She awakes to find out that she has a collar with two electrodes attached. In this dark room, Lilly fights her captor by refusing to submit to his demands listed in his contract. She rather die and starve to death. As days slipped by, Lilly fades away and succumbs to signing the contract. What will become of Lilly as she signs away her life for 5 years to J.S.?

sticky-post-it-note_98550

My thoughts:

Uncovering You is a fast read and can be read in one sitting. This first installment is not dark or brutal at all. It’s mostly a series of flashbacks and present events that had occurred in Lilly’s life that has caused her to meet J.S. Unbeknownst to her, that one fatal meeting with J.S. will forever changed her life. Did I enjoy this book? Yes. Ms. Edwards has made me curious in wanting to know what will happen next in the next installment, Submission. My curiosity is sparked as to why J.S. wanted Lilly in the first place and what will become of their dynamic relationship. Personally, I don’t think Uncovering You: The Contract ends with a cliffhanger but it does make you eager to read more about Lilly and J.S.

Lilly Ryder is just your ordinary struggling college student trying to survive with an extremely heavy course load and mounting student loans/bills. But, she's determined to make a future for herself so she does what she needs to in order to HAVE a future. Until. She wakes up in a dark cavernous room, alone, with no idea how or why she got there. Her only clue? A note with a contract attached for her to sign from someone identifying themselves as J.S.

I found it quite interesting that this book started out with a 'book description' and message from the author putting it out there that this was the first approximately 125 page 'volume' but would include "a fully-contained story with a climax and conclusion."
in other words a 'serial series'

Oh joy ** insert snort here. I absolutely hate serial series books. Not because of their marketing, price point, or cliffhanger endings. Nope. I just feel that when I purchase a book I'm entitled to receive a complete story for my purchase without it being conditional to purchase more serial series follow ups to experience the complete story. So, as this did specify that i'd get a total story in this one 'volume' I did my one click and bought this book which was recommended by someone I have similar reading habits with and respect.

I do want to make sure that any prospective reader of this book understand this IS a dark/taboo sort of book but the magic is that it has a psychological suspense thriller slant. The fear builds with the reader as we get snap shots of historical events leading up to Lilly's present circumstance. Clues to piece together, just as Lilly was doing. It's at this point that I recommend having a notepad to jot down the different dates that are mentioned to appreciate that part of this story (you'll understand this when you ARE reading the actual book, believe me). I can't comment further on this as the spoiler code of conduct prevents me from spoiling the appreciation (or reverse) for any future potential readers. But, to read this book is to experience a mind f*ck in progress. The author totally had me at a point in the book that read "YOU ARE MINE."

Adult content. OK. This is the one gray area i'm gonna comment on. The tags do indicate the general tones/genre of this book/series so that's not breaking any 'spoiler code of conduct' info. I am putting my ONE comment about the adult content/erotica in this book into a hidden spoiler though so only read the following sentence if you feel you want/need to know that info about this book:

My issue. While the author does comment that each of her books has "a fully-contained story with a climax and conclusion" there's still a cliffhanger ending. With the next book to be released being April 20, that's not long to wait unless, like me, you read this book. Then. You'll go crazy waiting as the build up and ending is that good. Seriously. Don't think I'm kidding because I'm not. look at other reviews out there for this book who have a similar opinion. Bottom line though is that for the price of this book and the page length this IS one serial series I actually feel good about recommending. As long as you realize it has dark content that may be disturbing... but in a good way.

Technically, Scarlett Edwards did warn me:
“The full story of Lily (captive) and J.S. (captor) unfolds over multiple volumes of approximately 125 pages each, like serials. Each volume, though, is a FULL story with a climax and conclusion.”
I knew you couldn’t fit the entire story in 125 pages. I knew it was serial-like. It’s not as if I thought Lily would be free by the end. But I didn’t realize just how little I’d get in the first edition. I mean, I wanted to experience J.S. at least. Ms. Edwards did say there’d be a FULL story with a climax and conclusion, after all. And okay, technically, I got it. It did have that. Just not at all in the way I was expecting. What I did get, though, was an extremely captivating story with an even more enticing ending that has me salivating for UNCOVERING YOU 2: SUBMISSION.

Lily wakes up with a collar around her neck—no idea where she is or how she got there. She is unable to leave and forced to choose between her life and her freedom. Lily is not new to difficult decisions. She’s never had an easy life and she’s worked hard for everything she’s ever received. So she’s not about to just roll over and take this lying down. But J.S. is not a man to be refused and he seems to have no limitations on how far he’s willing to go to get his way.

Told in a series of present time and flashbacks, Lily’s story is equal parts horrifying and mesmerizing. I was completely repulsed by the lengths J.S. went to in order to force Lily into submission, but when Lily finally realizes who J.S. really is, I was equally entranced by the person he was when she met him. I have no idea what I’ll think of him in SUBMISSION but I can guarantee I’ll be waiting excitedly to find out.

Bravo, Scarlett Edwards. You accomplished your goal. I’m mad you’re making me wait but I will wait. I just hope at the end of this series I will understand why you tortured me with tiny morsels instead of a few longer and more substantial books.

Brilliant, intriguing, suspenseful. Each tidbit we are given only enhances the need to read more. To ascertain more information as to what is going on, who is JS and where this story is going!
Lilly wakes up a captive with no knowledge who took her or where she is our why she was taken. The only hint is the signature at the bottom of her "contact", JS. Woven between the present, and recent past, as well as snippets as to Lilly's upbringing, we are pulled into an interesting beginning.

I'm hooked... on to book two...

The Contract is the first installment of what promises to be an extraordinary series!
We meet Lilly as she wakes up in a unknown place, which she can not escape from. She is being held captive, but doesn't know why or by whom. We follow her as she looks through the recent events in her life for reasons that could have lead her to this place.

That is when she is presented by her captor (that she still hasn't seen and remains unknown) with a contract... which she can simply not accept.

At the bottom of the contract, I see a small written note:
In short... (I flip the page over)
YOU ARE MINE.

A trial of strength between Lilly and her captor then starts, and the consequences for her might be to give up her freedom, or pride... or even her life.

Lilly has everything I'm looking for in a female character. She is incredibly strong-minded, but remains realistic, which is why I could completely relate to her. I also loved the flashbacks and the glimpse of her childhood, that were definitely useful to understand her personality.

I am also completely intrigued by JS... I can not wait to learn more about him. I must say I already love to hate him!

I found this book really captivating, I could not put it down. It was short (as announced by the author, each book in the series should be about 125 pages), and felt to me like watching the first episode of a new TV series. There are lots of things that are left unexplained, but you just know that you loved this first episode, the characters, and that something really big is coming in the next part.

I definitely can not wait to read the next book... and obviously the wait shouldn't be too long as the second part should be released on April, 20th!

Uncovering You basically sets up the story of how Lilly Rider came to be a captive. We get flash backs from her past leading up to this point in her life.

I have to admit though I was a bit upset to find out this is a serial because I already have so many books on my TBR and I knew if I liked this first book I'd be adding more to my TBR. But shit I couldn't help but enjoy this, serial be damned!!! I think this is going to become quite addictive for me.

Here is what amazes me even more, J.S...we hardly learned much about him, yet I am so utterly captivated by him and left licking my lips with excitement over him.

How does an author do that with so little information given?

Okay....looks like I'm hooked! Bring on more please

Uncovering You: The Contract –

In this page turner Lilly awakens in a dark room with no recollection of why or how she got there.

Once her memories begin to come back we learn more about the type of person Lilly is and the grit of her foundation.

Lilly is very ambitious and is driven to improve her livelihood. Along the way she is offered the opportunity of a lifetime, the perfect college internship.

Unfortunately, Lilly’s life takes a dramatic turn and when she awakens next she is alone in a dark room with only a collar around her neck to keep her company.

Lilly works her way thru her memories to current day; from these memories she figures out who is keeping her captive and forms a plan of revenge and payback.

Unfortunately, we won’t learn more until the next book in the series – Uncovering You: Submission Submission (Uncovering You #2) by Scarlett Edwards

This started out great. In fact, up until about 85% or so, I was fully invested in this well written and well thought out book. And then it got a bit silly as soon as Lilly met JS.

In scenes eerily reminiscent to Bared To You, Lilly met JS in the foyer of his building, and was thrust into his arms due to a wonky high heel. Yes, it was THAT cheesy.
Then he went all hot and cold and aggressive and very unlikeable. I really liked Lilly though, and I enjoyed the flashbacks to her past.

Another thing that annoyed me was that I found it very hard to believe that it took her two weeks in captivity to realise who JS was.
Up till those points, the book was excellent, clever and engaging, before it got all 'Alpha Male 101'.

A good, albeit short, read, but the ending turned me off.

DNF AT 20%

I could not get into this book. I was in the mood for something dark and it just didn't draw me in. The prequel is odd. It's dates that start out latest, the back up and back up from a couple days to six months at a time. Then the book is present time. I'm confused just writing that. Bummer.

Holy CRAP….!!! That’s my first thought after finishing this short. I can’t really call it a book since it’s only took me a few hours to read it, but be WARNED do not start this late at night because you will not be able to stop until you reach the end. I feel teased by all this information and I want the next book like yesterday.
I wouldn’t say this is a cliff-hanger per se’ but with it being a serial series, there is a lot of unsolved situations. I certainly want more… NOW!!!

The story starts off a bit choppy. Only in the sense that the prologue has about three short time views, which made more sense as the story continued. From flashbacks to the present time, Lily tries to recover her memories and find out why and how she landed in insanity. When she first wakes up she is blindfolded, collared, strung (literally with thin fishing wire) to a large pillar in the middle of a humongous stone room with no recollection as to how she got there.

Slowly memories return and Lily almost wishes they didn’t. As a Yale student, Lily is determined and dedicated to her future. When an opportunity arises for a one in a lifetime internship in California, Lily can’t say no and decides to take time off of school. With the amount of money she will make, she’ll be able to take a huge chunk out of her student debt. Everything seems wonderful, her internship provides housing and the chance to work with hardened professionals doing what she loves. Until the client backs out and Lily is left stranded, jobless, homeless and with no hope for going back to school until the following year.

While trying to figure out her life the mysterious J.S. comes on the scene. Lily can’t figure out why a ruthless mogul tycoon would want to meet with her, she hopes for a job but doesn’t hold her breath. Just as I was so involved in the story it ended. Lily’s memories return and she believes she knows who her capture is. All the torture of complete darkness and not being able to eat is taking its tole, but Lily refuses to sign the elusive contract where she will essentially be someone’s slave, available to and for their every whim. Lily would rather die. But when she thinks she has it all figured out she makes a plan of her own. Sadly then it ends. There was no bomb or questioning if someone will die, but man I want this next book. I can’t wait for more, fans of dark romance will definitely find a place for Uncovering You on their bookshelves, though cliff-hanger haters (like me) may want to wait it out. This was short but not in any way less awesome or captivating. The ending is bearable but I’m having a serious book hangover and I’m ready to beg Scarlett for more…. Oh wait, I already did!!

So this series is evidently a number of books released about a month or so apart. As some of you know, I hate this. I abhor it. I hate reading a book in an hour and then have to wait a month until the next installment and I usually shy away from doing reviews for these type of books. I would just rather read one long book. With that being said, I was not aware that this was one of these type of series and I am soooo glad I didn’t know ahead of time because I probably wouldn’t have read it.

I loved this freaking book!!! While it was not long at all, the content was riveting. Everything is described to a “t” and I felt like I was there. To sum it up, a girl wakes up in a room that she is not familiar with and soon realizes she has been kidnapped. As she is trying to figure out what happened she starts having flashbacks from her childhood and I just know that somehow these flashbacks are connected to her current situation…at least I hope it is. I mean why would she be having them right? I don’t want to give away too much because as I said the book is very short but what I did read made me want to read more and I was so frustrated knowing I will have to wait. This series I will absolutely be making an exception for because I NEED to know who this is and why he is doing this!!!

I don't know WTF I just read, this better be good and worth the cliffhanger and I better get a clever, bloodthirsty heroine and not a poser...

============================

UNCOVERING YOU: THE CONTRACT may be part of a serial but it does have a climax, some sort of a conclusion and a mean left hook! In 125 pages I'm invested in the story and feel fiercely protective of Lily, like her I want to castrate this dude, J.S., and serve him his own balls on a silver platter. At the same time I also feel that these two will frustrate me so much so I'm bracing myself in having to deal with yet another rich, "eccentric", socially awkward, emotionally handicapped, borderline sociopath guy and a girl who's been broken she'll actually forgive and fall in love with her captor after enduring such atrocious acts done in the name of "love". Anyway, fans of dark erotica, i.e. Skye Warren and C.J. Roberts; psychological thrillers like Aleatha Romig; or if you're just sick in the had like me, you'll surely get a kick out of this.

Strangely enough, the writing wasn't the major issue in Uncovering You, although there was certainly room for improvement in that area. Rather, the main problem was the lack of a believable or entertaining plot. What sort of idiot advertising company exec would offer a $120,000 contract to a still-in-school psych major with no practical real-world experience? Sorry, but that just doesn't happen. Not only that, but I'm fairly certain that being forced to either sign a contract or die from starvation would qualify as being under duress. I'm still scratching my head over how Lilly, who is apparently such a "smart" girl, wasn't able to figure that one out.

What's worse is that there wasn't even any erotica in this "erotica" book! I suspect that is being saved for future novellas. Sadly, I won't be reading any further to find out.
