I finished this through sheer force of will

“Q” is a tool of the highest magnitude. I mean it this guy sucks @ss. Not one redeeming quality. He’s all over the place too. He wants her, demands she marry him, coerces her into it, promises the world, but also is honest that he needs to do it for his inheritance? Like what? But then he marries her, and less than a month he’s ready to call it quits because he’s a spineless coward? Make it make sense. I’m not well versed on the finer points of BDSM but something tells me this is a really sh*tty take on the dynamics of a Dom/sub relationship. I love a good morally grey MMC but this guy was just the wooooorst. I wanted to a DNF this book but didn’t. I’m pretty sure I hate-read this to the finish.

As explosive as the chemistry was for Quentin and Vivian, the story was going in circles and did not flow well at all. Quentin wants to marry Vivian because of this instant connection he feels and he needs a wife to confirm his CEO role. He doesn't care that she's his son's ex, or about their age gap, or what people will say. Then, after so much back and forth, when they're finally married, it only takes him two days to second guess everything and push her away. Where were all those intrusive thoughts before Q! Also, why did he have her call him Q? He's not a high school basket ball player (hello OTH). The part where she about to orgasm and just keeps yelling Q Q Q Q - that was weird to read. Then there was the whole mess with her ex, his son, Felix. He asks his son to move in with him and Vivian knowing they were exes. I had figured out the truth behind Felix early on so the big revelation wasn't a surprise. What was a surprise is how suddenly, Felix goes from hating Q to calling him Dad. Excuse me, what?! The book dragged on unnecessarily in my opinion.

Dare I say I'm looking forward to June and Knox's story, but I'm scared that they will be more or less like the other stories in this series. I hope he grovels big time based on how he's treating her in just this book.

This is the story of Vivian, stood up at the altar by her best friend and fiancé, and Quentin, her fiancé's father who proposes to her immediately afterward. It’s a wild concept, but it’s a story of soulmates and love at first sight, so it’s perfect as a romance. I liked Quentin better than some of the other MMCs in the series because, right from the beginning, he didn’t try to pretend he wasn’t interested in Vivian. He was honest about the attraction he felt for her, and although he was being pushed to marry to consolidate his position with Davenport Group, he chose her for a reason. He wasn’t overly pushy or demanding, unless he was in his Dom role, and that came later—something else I appreciated. Although there was sexual tension between them from the start, they took a while to get there.

The biggest obstacles to Vivian and Quentin’s relationship are the ones they create. Initially, Vivian fights her instant desire for Quentin by making excuses—he’s Felix's father, he’s a lot older than her, they barely know one another—but the truth is, she feels an immediate connection and wants to say yes. Meanwhile, Quentin has no doubt Vivian is the woman he’s been searching for all of his life, and he pushes her to accept his proposal. Because he’s a billionaire, he uses his wealth to influence her decision. Because she is struggling financially to support herself, her sister, and her ailing father, the money is a big deal. Still, she doesn’t feel it would be right to say ‘yes’ for only that reason. Ultimately, she suspects he may be right about them being made for one another and agrees to marry him.

And then, Quentin gets cold feet after the marriage. Suddenly beset by doubts—she married him for his money, he’s too old for her, he’s not good enough for her, he’s going to hurt her just like he’s hurt everyone else in his life—he tries to distance himself from her. He keeps telling himself he’s doing this for Vivian’s benefit, but he’s eventually forced to admit, he’s trying to protect himself. The truth of the matter is, Quentin thinks Vivian is so amazing, he believes she’s too good for him and will leave him when she realizes that. Dumb-dumb doesn’t understand that putting distance between them is only causing hurt that might never occur were he to acknowledge his feelings and allow Vivian into his heart. It takes an unexpected source to knock some sense into him and change his course before it’s too late.

Unfortunately, Quentin has already done some significant damage to his relationship with Vivian and that’s going to require some groveling. The damage is not as extensive as some of the MMC’s in other books in this series, so the groveling doesn’t last as long. In fact, Vivian suspected he was being a coward when he told her he didn’t want her anymore, so although she was hurt, she was ready to forgive him fairly quickly.

Part of the plot is an exploration of Quentin’s relationship with his son Felix. Quentin was away with the Marines for most of Felix’s growing-up years, and because Felix’s mother left them when he was very young, Quentin had his aunt take on guardian duties for Felix. Felix is filled with resentment because his father was never around. Quentin is filled with guilt. This guilt is compounded when Quentin proposes to Vivian because, although Felix got cold feet and left her at the altar, he still loves her. Vivian, on the other hand, was relieved when he didn’t show up because she didn’t love him and realized she had taken on the role of older sister (aka mother) in their relationship. Ironic, since she ends up being his stepmother. At any rate, Quentin and Felix need to work through some heavy issues but end up being closer by the end.

Although Vivian changes and grows throughout the story—exploring aspects of her personality she never could have admitted to in the past (as a sub), allowing someone else to take care of her instead of always being the caregiver, and valuing herself and her art—it’s really Quentin who experiences the most growth. His hero’s journey is an internal one, naturally. Despite his macho, confident exterior, best exemplified by his role as a Dom, he’s soft and squishy on the inside. Once he admits that and owns up to his feelings, he finds the happiness that has eluded him all of his life. He comes to understand that his past does not determine his future. He can make different choices and create a life he’s proud of, one filled with love.

As the primary editor of this book, I don’t feel my review is too biased. Yes, of course, I think it’s a great book, but that’s because I offered my input to ensure it was as good as it could be.

I have to say I like the idea of this book I just don’t thinks it’s been executed right. Reading through the book is a fight between trying to enjoy it and at the same time knowing and slightly cringing that it seems like a rough draft. This book seems like the author had the story in her head, typed it out, and then didn’t refine it and sent it out. No hate to the author at all I just couldn’t get into it the right way.

I recently finished reading The Imperfect Marriage, and I must say that it was a captivating romance that kept me hooked from start to finish. The story follows Quentin and Vivian, who enter into a marriage of convenience that is mutually beneficial for both parties. Quentin needs to marry to secure his position as CEO of a Davenport business, while Vivian requires financial support to keep her business afloat.

The characters are well-developed, and their chemistry is undeniable. Quentin's overprotective nature and his genuine love for Vivian make for a compelling narrative. The author does an excellent job of evoking emotions, and the supporting characters add depth to the story. The themes of family dynamics, secrets, and personal growth are woven seamlessly throughout the plot.

The book is filled with humor, surprising twists, and steamy scenes. The author's vivid descriptions and metaphors, such as "My heart is a shark that bites its way out of my chest," are particularly noteworthy. The story is engaging and easy to follow, making it a quick and enjoyable read.

While the book has its flaws, including some cringe-worthy moments and a somewhat forced portrayal of the male lead, the overall narrative is well-crafted and engaging. The themes of love, support, and personal growth make this a compelling read for fans of contemporary romance.

Overall, The Imperfect Marriage is a captivating and addictive story that explores the complexities of a marriage of convenience.

The Imperfect Marriage
L. Steele

What. A. Ride. I'm going to be honest and say that I went into this book completely blind and had zero idea what I was in for. This was first L. Steele book. I absolutely adored the narrators and therefore I immediately needed it, right?

This was one of those books that honestly left me speechless. And then it became HIGHLY entertaining for me. At every turn, something absolutely INSANE was happening and I kept thinking: "surely not." but...spoiler alert....SURELY it did happen. I absolutely binged this audio and couldn't press stop to save my life. I feel like I blinked and this insanely long audio book was finished and I sort of stood there and was like "wow...that all really happened".

I know this isn't my typical review but I have to tell you, if you're looking for an absolute wild ride, this audio will leave you completely satisfied. I laughed and gasped and stared off into space with wide eyes so many times based on this books trajectory. I was just...highly entertained...and I think some of my friends were as well...because I basically went off and re-enacted several scenes...with my poor attempt at British accents. To my friends, you're welcome.

Another great story in the Davenport series. Meet Quentin & Vivian two very interesting people who should not be a match based on their circumstances. Vivian is over 20 years younger than Quentin, shy, always puts everyone ahead of her happiness but the clincher is that she is engaged to Felix, Quentin's son.

Quentin a brash, alpha male with a strong dominant personality. He is estranged from his son and trying to figure out his next steps in life after retiring from the Marines. He falls in lust with Vivian at her wedding to Felix and proposes when she is jilted.

This book will keep you in suspense, drive you to insanity with Quentin's thought processes regarding Vivian and love. The chemistry between these two is off the charts and then throw in a dom/sub relationship and you will be Hot, Hot, Hot.

This book throws such a loop that you will be stunned, shocked and devastated. Be ready to not want to put the book down once you start reading. Can't wait to read how the rest of the Davenports fall.

This was another amazing book by L. Steele!! I loved Quentin, the silver foxes and maturity trump a lot of other men. Vivian doesn't know who she is and it's been so long since she thought of herself. They both need each other and complement the other perfectly. There is some really sad news in this book, and I am still not sure how I feel about it. The blurb for the next book already has me hooked. This story, you get your very hot and spicy moments, your angst and misunderstanding, the making up, and all the other family drama you come to expect. You can read these alone. However, I think you get so much more reading them in order. I love this series and this addition doesn't disappoint!!!

I received an ARC of this book, all opinions and thoughts are my own.

L. Steele has become one of my favorite authors after ARC reading several books for her.

The Imperfect Marriage follows Quentin and Vivian’s marriage of convenience story. But it’s not just any marriage of convenience. Vivian married her ex-boyfriend’s father.

We have age-gap, we have possessive, we have forced proximity, one bed, a strong female lead, and he’s a billionaire.

L. Steele’s books never fail to disappoint. I fall in love with each new couple and these two were no different. When the spice hits, it EXPLODES. I recommend this book and any other by this author.

I absolutely found this book to be fantastic! Vivian and Q are HOT right from the start! Of course they each have their own shortcomings and insecurities that they need to work through - otherwise there wouldn’t be a story. There’s a bit of absolute heartbreak in there, but as we know, life goes on… I hope we’ll see a “fix” to that in future books. I still love that all the books are intertwined so you see people from the other series as well as The Davenport’s. Hot, spicy, emotional, pay attention to trigger warnings if you need them. Read it!

Laughter and heartbreak

Quentin and Vivian story goes from being left at the alter to marrying his father. Vivian is relieved when her groom gets a change of heart because she find her true love but there is a big heart break in this one that I did not see coming and I am kinda mad about it. Can’t wait for the next one to come out.

On my read of the first book in this series - I gave 5 stars, so I continued onto the second book because Quentin was my favorite MMC. I gave it 3 stars, and that’s me being kind. The FMC was rather annoying and the book was very repetitive. In my honest opinion, the book would have been better if it ended at 200 pages instead.

Wow! What an interesting, intense and inspiring story. This family is full of hostility, anger, and plain out competition for higher positions. This story has all the feels, emotions, and forgiveness. Beautifully written.

I really enjoyed the book! I’m shocked but actually I loved it! This author is all over book tok and I wanted to try, I love an age gap book and this one is really good!
There are a loooot of sex scenes, maybe too much? Probably no but almost💕
The book is safe and he is really a good, hot and a dirty talker hero but I care more about heroines feelings than hero’s in every book and Vivian is an amazing character! She is strong, smart and a good person she speaks her mind, she always confronts him and never doubts about their feelings. That’s why I drop one star, hero is all in 65% of the book, after they have sex, pufff he’s hesitating

Big spoiler!!!!

She is a virgin and of course she never had sex with his son, I knew that from the beginning otherwise I’d never read the book, sharing among the family is my no trope!
I’ll read the next book about June, she sounds like fun!!!

This book was TERRIBLE. I was literally so confused. I LOVE marriage of convenience books which was my only thought for downloading this book & when I tell you I only finished it because I skimmed and didnt want to DNF it. The main characters were so confusing, Vivian didnt know what she wanted but then whenever Quentin commanded her she dropped!! No man is that is hot, even as a silver fox in his case. Then there was the random break up, art show?? and his ex coming back at the end & the son not being his son!? Too much to keep up with, I highly dont recommend.

I wanted to like this but I just didn't. Q is such an ass. He spent part of the book talking Raven into marrying him, to give him a chance and hurt his son in the process but then as soon as they married he started to push her away and being cruel. He's a dick and a coward. Then you don't even get a epilogue and see if they got a HEA. It just ended by starting the next book. I almost DNF'd so many times but kept going you know " just in case" Should have followed my instincts. This is 2 days of my life I won't get back.
I also just want to add- what kind of virgin can take a rough finger fcking with 4 fingers? The fingers of a man that's 6'5"? Even in my whore phase I couldn't take 4 freaking fingers. That's just impossible to believe. A virgin that's as lose as a bucket. Yeah... Ok.

This is one of the hardest books to review. I’m still frozen and devastated. I can’t even put into proper words how I feel about this book. One of the most heartbreaking stories I ever read and will not forget. The writing is phenomenal and L. Steele’s authors writing style is being only one it’s kind and not replicable. The story begins intriguingly and ends fabulously. The tropes entwined together throughout the story. Unexpected twists weaved through the plot. I absolutely loved Quentin’s magnetic resonance and Vivian’s spirit. The supporting characters added a nice touch to the story. Just the right combination of spicy moments and sweet moments. The story ends perfectly with an epilogue that is the buttercream of the cake.
I’m so excited to read the next story in this captivating series which comes out in August.

would have been nice to know Dom/Sub trope

Dom/Sub tropes are usually dumb, so I don't usually read them. This was a dumb one and I could have avoided the loss of time it took to get through this one. I have to finish what I start, so thank you for the lack of heads up and waste if time

Thin plot; Dom/sub theme

The writing and character development are done well. But the plot line has too many holes. And there should have been a warning for the dom/sub theme.

Cheesy and overdone

This is the first book I've read by this author and I'm sure will be the last. I found the whole thing cheesy and overdone, the characters immature and what passes as BDSM is cringey.

“Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there, wondering, fearing, doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before.”

I absolutely love anything this author puts out but this one? This one got all up in every one of my feels, I’m still reeling.

Tropes for this read are:
Marriage of convenience – Fake Relationship – Ex-Boyfriend’s Dad – Age-Gap – He Falls First (and hard!)

POV: Duel
World Building: 5/5
Angst: 3/5
Banter: 5/5
Plot: 4/5 plus 1 for the plot twist!
Spice: 4/5
Supporting Characters: 5/5

Overall review: 5/5

This is book two in the Davenport series and overall, the storyline between the FMC and MMC is fantastic. There’s other drama within the story that triggered me, I’m struggling to separate that from Q and Viv – note that the drama and my trigger is NOT the author’s fault, it’s mine and something I’m dealing with, don’t let this comment deter you from reading!

This couple was adorable, the story was great, not near as angsty as I thought it’d be with an ex-boyfriend’s dad trope, but it was there. Lots of love and growth for not only the couple but family too.

Quentin: War hero. Son. Father. Uncle. He struggles in his relationships with his father, his son and nephew. Past decisions are presently affecting his relationships with all three and then imagine his surprise when he shows up uninvited to his son’s wedding only to discover that, with one glance at the bride, he's found his one true mate in life. Even more, the son leaves the bride at the altar and all he can think to do is to immediately propose. His already tenuous relationship with his son becomes even thinner when the son shows back up but realizes he missed his chance. Even with his past haunting him and troubles with family, he will do anything to have Vivian.

Vivian: Kind. Sweet. Caring. Provider for her sister and ailing father. She made the decision to marry her best friend based on financial purposes only, not out of love. All the way down the aisle she’s second-guessing her decision. Then she locks eyes with a silver fox, one she’s immediately drawn to. With that momentary stare she feels a connection she never thought she’d find. Imagine her surprise when her fiancé stands her up and the silver fox proposes? And further that surprise when she learns he’s her (now) ex’s dad!

Quentin is a strong dominant alpha and Vivian has discovered she’s eager to please as his submissive. Meatloaf? Say what now?! Cakes? Hmmm. Suckling? Okay, then!

If the story were to have a trigger warning, I’d say it’s illness and loss.

If you’re new to L. Steele, her books are considered standalone – but you’ll see characters from previous books and to get the absolute best experience you should really read them all if you can!

I would 10/10 recommend this read, you won’t be disappointed.

Meanwhile, I’m taking a short break to decompress and then I’ll be patiently waiting for book three of The Davenports, Knox and June’s story.

Happy reading y’all!

***ARC REVIEW*** ***POSSIBLE SPOILERS***

This book is the story of Quentin and Vivian and takes place right at the end of The Unwanted Wife (Nathan and Skylar’s story). Vivian is Talk about an awkward situation, but in walks Quentin to save the day. Quentin proposes

L. Steele did a phenomenal job at writing the emotions in this book. There was love, hate, revenge (kind of, in my opinion), heartache, loss, and pain; you name it and it was there. I wanted to cry in chapters 42 and 54; both had so much heartache and pain, you could hear both in the writing. In both chapters Quentin finds himself rethinking his marriage to Vivian (his Raven). You can hear the contemplation in the writing, he is torn on what to do because he is falling in love with her but doesn’t want to hurt her in the end. I love the way he wants to take care of her throughout the book but is afraid to let her in on his emotions. Both Quentin and Vivivan and even Felix grow emotionally and mentally throughout the book.

I can’t wait for the next one, to read about Knox and June!

Favorite quotes/scenes:

Quentin’s confession (Chapter 54): “Where you’re concerned, I lose my sanity. You’re my Raven. My Noth Star. The compass that guides me. Without you, I’m nothing. Without you, no part of my life makes sense…”

After Quentin and Ryot’s fight: “Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there, wondering, fearing, doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before.”

“I knew we were meant for each other as soon as I saw you.”

The marriage of convenience between Quentin and Vivian in The Imperfect Marriage explodes with sparks from the very first time their eyes meet when Vivian is walking down the aisle to another man. The other man just so happens to be Quentin’s son and this emotional and angsty story just gets more complicated and heartwrenching from there.

“As soon as I saw you, I knew it had to be you. The connection between us ensures anyone who sees us together will believe our story. So, you see…it couldn’t have been anyone else.”

Vivian had always put her family before herself and when she meets Quentin, he starts to encourage her to expand her horizons and to live for herself. I loved watching her blossom throughout the story from a naïve young woman to a self-assured and confident woman who knows what she wants.

“Have you ever looked at someone and realized exactly what was missing in your life? Have you seen her and known you’d do anything to be with her? To have her in your life…by any means necessary?”

Quentin was growly, possessive and so determined to make Vivian his. From the moment, he laid eyes on her, she spoke to his heart and she knew she was the one for him. Self-doubts and past pain create barriers in their relationship that they have to overcome, but these two truly understand each other and make each other better with their love for one another.

“It’s always been you, only you, from the moment I saw you. Everything in my life has been leading me to you.”

While Quentin and Vivian’s journey is full of ups and downs, their chemistry is pure FIRE and the banter between them is so much fun. Full of heartbreaking events, angst galore, and so much love, The Imperfect Marriage was an addicting read that had me captivated with Quentin and Vivian’s evolving relationship. Now I’m on pins and needles waiting for the next book in this series.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐠𝐞 is the 2nd book in The Davenports, a series by L. Steele, featuring a spicy and emotional age-gap/marriage of convenience romance with a fun twist. Vivian made her way down the aisle on her wedding day, only to find out from the best man that the groom wasn’t coming. What should have been the most humiliating moment of her life was actually a huge relief and a bit surreal, especially when a handsome silver fox offered to marry her himself. The problem? It turns out this hottie that lights her body up is her ex-fiancé’s father! The both have reasons for entering a marriage agreement despite the complication of his son. What happens when real feelings get involved, and Quentin’s 747 of emotional baggage comes out to play?

The unique premise of this one sucked me in right away! I was also pleasantly surprised by Vivian’s strength. Sometimes when books have a BDSM theme, the heroine can come off as weak in all areas, but she was wise beyond her years and had an admirable fortitude and compassion about her that just really resonated with me. I loved that Quentin was an emotionally wounded Veteran, because I have a soft spot for those! I will admit, though, that he gave me a bit of whiplash as he worked through his insecurities. Though the age gap is mentioned many times in the book, I felt like Vivian was plenty mature for him, despite her lack of experience. I loved their instant connection that definitely seemed to be more than physical. Although anytime they explored their spicy chemistry, it was explosive and HOT!🔥 I liked the pace they took things, too. This book had it all— great characters, witty banter, family drama, a little action, angst, and dramatic twists and turns. I expect this author to throw in big twists, but one in this book, broke my heart and I still haven’t recovered! Tissues are required!!😭 Overall, it was an entertaining ride, and the bonus epilogue was perfect!! I can’t wait for the next story!!

I received an ARC for free, and am leaving this review voluntarily.

Read an excerpt:
"Give me. My. Drink," I choke out.
"Not happening." There’s a finality in his voice, a resoluteness that slices through the thoughts in my head. It pushes something in me to bend and obey, a-n-d…
No. Absolutely not. I set my jaw, turn to the bartender and scowl. "Another drink, please."
"You will not give her another drink." My ex’s father pulls out his wallet and throws a few notes on the counter.
The bartender seems taken aback. He looks from Quentin to me, then back at Quentin. A look of comprehension comes over his features and he scoops up the notes.
“Hey!” I try to get his attention, but he’s already moved away.
Fine, I can help myself. I reach over and grab the bottle of Jose from under the counter, but Quentin snatches it from me.
“Gimme that!” I attempt to grab it.
He holds the bottle out of reach. “You’re leaving.”
“No, I’m not,” I argue.
“Yes, you are,” he says in a slow, patient voice that brooks no argument, but which also makes me feel like I'm younger than him. And I am younger than him. In comparison to his age and experience, I'm a novice. Damn him for highlighting our age gap. For bringing home that he's the father of my now-ex, and it’s a pipe dream to think we could ever have anything when it's forbidden and all wrong.
“You can’t tell me what to do,” I seethe.
"Sure I can." He nods slowly.
Anger suffuses my guts, floods my chest, fills my blood, and spurts out through the pores of my skin. "Who do you think you are?" I snarl.
"Your-husband-to-be.”

This was such a fantastic read. Quentin is at his son's wedding when he first sees Vivian. She is walking down the aisle. He is gob-smacked. He can't quit staring at her. She is breathtaking. Vivian continues down the aisle, even though she can see her husband to be is not in attendance. What else is she supposed to do.Where is her fiance and why isn't he here? She has a feeling this whole wedding was a mistake. I mean he's her best friend. Maybe this is a sign. When she finally is in place, contemplating what should she should do, she sees Quentin and she is struck by how gorgeous he is. When the best man tells her that he got a text and the groom isn't coming, Quentin walks up, drops to one knee and proposes. She's in shock. She's never seen this man before. Who is he? He might be absolutely gorgeous, muscular and sexy as hell.....but he is also a little crazy. I mean who does that? She doesn't know that the man in front of her on bended knee is her no-show groom's father.
This begins the tale of emotional journey. Quentin is determined to marry Vivian. Vivian is unsure what to do. Can Quentin make her an offer she can't refuse? Well, I guess the title of the book answers that question. But there is one thing no one but those who read this book know. It is a major twist involving another character. A well known character. A mind blowing, unexpected turn of events. Right here in this book.
This book is one in a long series that started with the seven. If you want to go on one incredible ride, start there. Every single book is an amazing five star plus read. I wholeheartedly recommend this book and this author.

You’re going to love Quentin and Vivian
Confident, ex-military, dominant Quentin crashes his son’s wedding and meets the woman he has to have.
He needs a wife to secure his position as CEO (yep, granddad is at it again). And he finds her.
Did I mention Vivian is the woman his son was marrying?
Vivian finds herself stood up at the altar and step in Quentin. The rest as they say is history. Quentin and Vivian are perfect together and you’re going to love their story. Innocence, BDSM, angst, family issues and of course a HEA.
But be prepared…there is a twist you will not see coming. It that will leave you shocked, frozen and devastated. I just can’t get past it. I’m still trying to wrap my head around what has happened.
Another must read L. Steele book.
And as usual…it does NOT disappoint.
