Being a Myth Doesn’t Live Up to the Hype
Leander Mast didn’t ask to come to Rivenfield, and he definitely didn’t ask to be thrust into the middle of a neighborhood battle over an ancient tree, but as a Giwoggle—who goes wherever a witch might conjure him—he doesn’t have much choice in the matter.
And Leander definitely doesn’t count on getting stuck.
While Leander attempts to get home, struggling against the magic keeping him from stepping outside the town limits, he butts heads with Ben, his new grumpy neighbor. And it doesn’t help that Leander cut down Ben’s tree.

The Neighborhood Outcast
Ben Wise knows two things about life. Firstly, he would love to date one of the new monsters in town because humans are, without a doubt, boring. Secondly, he hates the man who took over his neighbor’s house. He’d had a running battle with the old man as well. It’s as if the universe decided to try to drive Ben insane because everywhere he goes, he runs into Leander—the jerk who cut down his tree.
The grocery store.
The local diner.
His own backyard.
Ben is plagued by Leander’s presence.
And finally, they even match on the new monster dating app Ben has been using. Ben swears he’s going to walk the other way any time he sees Leander—online or off—but fate seems to have other ideas. And Ben is furious about it.

A MM Monster romance with Grumpy/Sunshine, Neighbours to Lovers, Unexpected Rom-Com vibes! It's chaotic, made me laugh & little emotional too.
I devoured my #ARC in 3hrs. Leander & Ben are lovely 🤭.

Leander is a Giwoggle (a new-to-me shifter btw), who's conjured by magic by an Old Man in the middle of a neighbors' feud 😅 & then finds himself unable to leave. L's enigmatic, easy-going, charming!
Ben is a human, L's now "neighbor". He's not at all impressed & rightfully frustrated with L. B's prickly, haughty, snarky (& a reader!) with a hidden softness. B finds monsters fascinating, L finds B amusing 😁.

This book started adrenaline-filled, the funny moments were glorious (like the loop 🤭), L+B's chemistry is HOT from the get-go! The softness & vulnerability is sweet ❤️. Overall, a joy to read with lil cameos! RTC.

I do have Questions about where B's parents are (as we find about L's)? Also if being L's mate gives B immortality ('cause ya I'm worried lol).

This series is just not what it could be. I'm reading books with high ratings here and it just doesn't live up to that expectation I have.

In this book there's a giwoggle monster, which was a new one for me, but I feel like there could still be so much more to the story.

🔵 Giwoggle / human
🟢 Age gap - 515/ over 20
🟣 A bit of a size difference
🟡 Witchcraft
🟠 No chemistry
🟢 Knotting
🔵 Fated mates, sort of
🌶️ The only good thing in this book was the sex; t/b

The story wasn't well developed, I had so many questions and wanted a lot of things to have their epilogue.

Leander was a giwoggle and came into Ben's life by witchcraft. He cut down Ben's tree and then stayed in the house next door. Out of nowhere with no particular sudden chemistry there's an interest for Ben, the local loner, awkward and completely annoying Ben, who's looking for a monster to have a relationship with.

Leander was 515 years old, yet we know nothing about him apart from the fact that he had an eight pack.
Great.

The whole idea of Leander just squatting in the neighbour's house and using his money was absurd, even more absurd were the authorities in Rivenfield, combine that with supposed fated mates story between Ben and Leander who had zero chemistry and even worse dialogues and you've set yourself up for a disappointing day.

🟣 The only thing I appreciated was their first time having sex . That first scene was really good and well written and if that were the standard for the whole book, it'd be fantastic, I'm sure.

"We were in a trance. I kissed him and quickly lost track of how many times he whimpered and squirmed before his muscles locked up and he would scent the air with his release again. Each time he spilled over the edge, he would force more cum out of me. It was so rapturous that at one point I was convinced my soul was leaving my body to live in his."

That's just one part of it. They were having hot sex, there was a lot of knotting and the connection was definitely electrifying.

... But that was the only time. In the whole story.

Even when Leander came back and they were in a relationship and living together, there was nothing there. Ben, specifically, was an annoying and completely non fleshed out character, so I couldn't like him even if i tried.

I'm not sure there's a point in continuing with this series, it obviously isn't working for me.

Leander’s true form is a Giwoggle (google it) and can conjured to wherever he’d been called and has to fulfill any wishes. This time it’s about a tree that has to go down, and there it goes.
Ben Wise is furious the tree is down. Furious at Leander. Leander finds Ben adorable.
Ben uses the Monster Match app to date a monster, they are way better creatures than humans ha!

What started at the wrong feet, turns into something way better. Not right away, oh no, not right away.
It’s an adorable story, a fast read, original, grumpy/sunshine, fun, sweet, and a great addition to the Monster Match series.

a giwoggle was a new mythological creature to me and that made the story so much more interesting!

i enjoyed leander and ben's story a lot, and hopefully we'll get to hear ajax's story too.

it was kind of an enemies to lover type of situation and it panned out really well.

It was really cute. I loved Leander and his mischievous ways and Ben and his snarky self. These two start out enemies and work their way to more. The giwoggle is cute in his bird brain ways. The chemistry between these guys is there, though I would call this book low on the steam and a slow burn. Enjoyed all the cute banter. And the writing was fantastic.

Loved

Yet another slam dink for the Monster Match series! Let's just say these two get off to a bad start, and it takes Ben's stubborn butt to realize maybe he judged Leander too harshly for something he had absolutely no control over. They may take a minute to communicate, but when they do, it works, and they make a perfect match. They just needed open communication to understand their differences. Very quick and enjoyable read when looking for an under 150-page book. As with the rest of this highly-qualified recommendation, to giving them a try when looking for something new and different.

“The statement was a bucket of ice water dropped on my head. I didn’t want to be petty revenge. I wanted to mean more to this monster who could kiss like a god. I stumbled back a step, but he slid his firm hands around my waist and drew me in for another thorough kiss. His soft lips overpowered mine and he swirled his tongue just right.”

I absolutely adored the meet-cute in this book! Ben & Leander are the perfect example of grumpy sunshine. Leander dragged into this story by an old witch to tick off his neighbour and said neighbour is Ben, who is perpetually snarky but instantly attracted to Leander.

These two are absolutely smouldering which is only compacted by Leanders Giwoggle attempting to woo Ben and although Ben is clearly smitten with him and his beast, continues to be adorably cantankerous.

Unfortunately there were no cameos or Easter eggs in this book which made it feel a bit separate, so it brought it down to 4 stars. But I do absolutely love these two.

I had never heard of a Giwoggle before! I absolutely loved this story. Leander and Ben don’t get the best introduction to each other but that is hardly Leander’s fault. You could call it enemies to lovers but the enemies part is really very one sided as Leander quickly figures out Ben is his mate and enjoys getting a rise out of him. This book was a lot of fun and fit right in with the other books in this series I have read so far.

Leander Mast, Giwoggle (515-ish)
Ben Wise, Human (??), librarian

I know with a short book such as this not to expect much, but I did expect a little more than what we got. The author spent too much time on people/events that had no real relevance to the story so the deficiency in character development for Ben, for instance, was very evident. How old is he? Is he from Rivenfield? Does he have any family/friends? When/how did his feud with his neighbour, Mr. Nelson begin? There was far too much telling rather than showing and very little relationship development between the MCs that isn't bedroom based.

The first half of this book was pretty meh to be honest, I didn't love the meet-cute and then it mainly consisted of them crossing paths with Leander kind of taunting Ben a bit, no real chemistry. The Monster Match app is barely a blip in the story as are any of the characters from any other the other books. When they start to get together things got significantly more interesting with Leander's nesting instincts coming to the forefront, which were adorable, and them trying to fix the spell gone awry that has him trapped in Rivenfield. I wish the spells angle had been more fully explored, it was a great plot idea that could have been brilliantly expanded upon.

To be fair, I think we're all mostly here for the monster smut (which I was more than happy about), but I'd like a bit of a romance and story mixed it. This had glimpses of a four or five star read, but didn't quite manage to get there. Still, it was a quick, easy read, that entertained me for a couple hours.

Book 5/8 of the multi author Monster Match series.
I was given an ARC and voluntarily wrote an honest review.

So Leander is at the whim of witches and he hates it. Who wouldn't?! I mean one minute you're doing your thing and the next you're dragged into a pot, stinking of some foul liquid and having a crazy man demand he cut down the neighbor's tree. He wants to go home and he knows he isn't going to get there trying to talk to this crazy man. So what's a Giwoggle to do? Dig out the chainsaw and get to work.

Ben has had it with the neighbor. If it's not one thing, it's another. The main thing they fight over; however, is his beloved tree. It's practically a national landmark it's so old. And his crazy neighbor wants it gone. He also has had the worst luck for years and he doesn't know how, but he knows it's the neighbor's fault. When he's awoken late at night, to the sound of a chainsaw, he doesn't know how much his life is about to change again.

So now Ben's tree is cut down, the neighbor is no longer a problem, but Leander is. Leander is constantly crossing paths with Ben and the fireworks keep getting hotter. What more will happen when a human who wants to date a monster and a monster who just wants to go home, are matched on a dating app?

This is a shared world book of great authors that came up with the crazy idea to have couple meet over an app. The world and character building are really good. The story is good. The chemistry is a little slow at first, due to extenuating circumstances with Ben, but it does evolve and feel natural. The mystery is a nice touch. The other characters in the book are well used. I liked the use of the monster Giwoggle, as I've never heard of them. I immediately googled it and found it interesting. I really liked Ajax and hope the author decides to write his story. I liked that even though it's a short, quick read, it doesn't feel shortened. I highly recommend this book and the rest of the series so far. Thanks to the author for letting me read an early copy.

Short and cute!

It was sometimes really sweet and had a lot that interested me, but it was not my favourite.

The interconnection was missing from this one. Like, mention of Leon/the diner and knowing which of the tester towns they were in was pretty much it. I sorely missed that extra bit that’s made this series stand out to me so much.

Then there’s the fact that it just… lacked. It was like I was only getting parts of each thing that cropped up. Information and details and trying to keep up with the rapid-fire situation changes without all of those things for the previous one really messed with me. I needed *m o r e*. It was really short, which then leads me to being frustrated, because it could’ve had the *m o r e* I wanted and needed to really enjoy it.

I know, I know. This is most likely a ~me problem~ because “I don’t read right”. I get it. But it really does need more detail and information, and it was obvious this one didn’t have the same kind of vibe as the others. I happen to really like the vibes this series has been putting out, and I just felt like I was missing too much to fully get into this one.

3.75/5. It had its wonky bits, but it all boils down to me feeling like this was 1/3rd of a novella, and I really want the other 2/3rds.

This is my first read by Ki Brightly and it is so good! I felt like I immediately slipped back into Rivenfield with the mentions of the Portal Place diner, Leon, and Nox. I love that as we read on in each book, we stay in the same or a similar world. It makes it easier to fall into the story in my opinion.

Leander is a Giwoggle, a mix of fur, hooves, and talons. He can be conjured by a witch to perform a special deed. He is pulled from his life by a witch in Rivenfield to cut down a tree. That action is what seals Leander’s fate and introduces him to Ben a grumpy, prickly man.

I think one of my favorite things about this book is how quickly it was paced. I felt like the story just started on a bang and kept going, kept rolling. It was just really smooth and exciting story. I really liked Ben. I know that’s kind of odd because he was the grumpy one. It was like he couldn’t understand why he was the way he was and was so hurt by it. I just wanted to hug him so hard. I like how Leander tried to court Ben using his Giwoggle senses and his human capabilities. This story was what I needed, a short respite from my day. It left me happy and ready to read more.

What I like about this book was the grumpy sunshine. You have a human that is grumpy and straightforward about everything that comes to his mind. Then you have a Giwoogle that wants to find his mate and not the summoned anymore by witches. The humans character is lonely because of his personality and how grumpy he gets. I like that Ben is always straightforward about everything and wouldn’t hold back when something bad happens around him. I also like that when he gets jealous, he goes talks Leander to him right away, and he’s even grumpy towards him as well like everybody else. Leander Character is great because he likes teasing Ben so he can get more grumpier and sassier. What I also like about his character as he shy when he really wants something and is hard to communicate with others about his feelings. These two together are amazing because they are enemies to lovers and then you get to read about them falling in love with each other. The other thing that I like about these two are the more time they spend with each other the more they can be themselves and do not have to hide who they are.

This book is part of the multi-author Monster Match series. This is the story of Leander Mast and Ben Wise. Leander is a Giwoggle and has no control of when or where a witch may conjure him. He has to complete the task and then he gets to return to his regular life. The problem begins when he is summoned to Rivenfield and told to cut down an ancient tree. But things take a turn for the unusual and Leander is stuck in Rivenfield and can not leave. His only enjoyment is teasing/annoying his new next door neighbor. Ben is the local librarian and his life has been cursed since his fight with his neighbor. When Leander saves his life while cutting down the tree, Ben doesn't care. Leander is the enemy. This is their story. This is a fun story. I enjoyed how Ben and Leander eventually begin to work together to fix Leander's problem. The book is written well and easy to read. I look forward to more by this author.

I received a complimentary advanced review copy from the author and I am voluntarily leaving a review.

Clucky in Love

Ben is a librarian in Rivenfield - A Human and Monster town - and is quite grumpy, has lots of failed dates, almost like he's cursed, and has a vendetta against him by his ornery old neighbour Mr Nelson, who wants him to chop down his old Oak tree.
Mr Nelson isn't just a horrible neighbour; he's a witch. With the power to call and command a Giwoggle - a sort of bird/wolf hybrid that once summoned can only be free when the job is completed.
Unfortunately for him, in his human form he's cutting down the tree but it falls on Mr Nelson killing him instantly and he's trapped.
Fortunately, people accept he belongs in Nelson's house and he enjoys tormenting the cute bow-tied librarian Ben.
When the moon transforms him for the first time, his furry side keeps kidnapping Ben and cuddling him in a nest of blankets and pillows.
This one is adorable and very funny.
Ben is the grumpy to Leander's sunshine and despite themselves, they end up falling for each other.
There's lots of heat and a tonne of sweet.

Conjured Chaos Kisses

This is the 5th installment of the multi-author series Monster Match that follows the love story between Leander the Giwoggle and the town outcast Ben.

Leander is summoned too Rivenfield by a witch with the instruction to cut down his neighbors tree. Ben, being said neighbor is justifiably irate with Leander when he discovers him in his backyard doing his neighbors bidding. When Leander’s crimes against old trees is complete he finds himself trapped in Rivenfield and extremely interested in his new prickly neighbor Ben.

This book strongly character based with a double pov. It was so sweet and fluffy and I absolutely loved it! Leander is is such a cinnamon roll of a monster who wants to do nothing more than to Ben happy. This quickly become on of my favorite books from the Monster Match Series!

A Bit Disappointing

I’ve really enjoyed the other books in this series so far, but this one didn’t really seem to mesh or fit with the others. For one, the Monster Match app seemed more of an afterthought and was barely used, and that’s honestly one of the things I like about the series. For another, it didn’t really incorporate much from the other stories behind a couple vague, quick references to other characters through limited interactions.

The story itself also felt super rushed and a little underdeveloped . I thought meeting a new type of monster/creature would be fun and interesting but the lore was a little lacking. I also didn’t care for the characters. They were a bit flat and generally unlikeable. I honestly didn’t care about the romance at all. If the book hadn’t been so short, I probably would’ve just skipped this one. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't my cup of tea.

Leander is stuck in Rivenfield. A native of Pittsburg, he can't leave Rivenfield because the task he was conjured for remains incomplete. Old man Nelson, a witch wanted a neighbor's tree to be cut down since most of the oak's leaves fell into his yard in the fall.
Leander commits arboricide and as the tree falls, it squashes Nelson. So their deal can't be completed. Ben, the tree's owner comes out of his house to yell at Leander and sees the tree hit his nasty neighbor.
Ben thinks Leander is a murderer as well as a tree killer. Leander thinks Ben is cute. And his mate. Their courtship is full of snark. And lust. Leander is a sweet Giwoggle, Ben is a grumpy human. They are precious together with a strong and sexy chemistry. Secondaries are okay. The author puts most of their work into creating these two. A fun, quick read. Another winner for the Monster's Match series.

Conjured Chaos Kisses

‘With a gasp, I opened my mouth a bit, and he took it as an invitation to launch a full-scale invasion. A low growl slid out of Leander, and I sighed happily. “Never been able to let go,” he whispered against my mouth. “What do you mean?” I asked. He leaned far enough back to look into my eyes, gaze searching mine. “No one’s ever known what I am when we slept together.” A giddy thrill careened through my chest and left me feeling lighter than air. “I’ll be the first?” “Only if you go inside with me.”

Thank you for the ARC read, I voluntarily give this book an honest review. Once you open this book you are about to be hooked all over Leander and Ben!
Being summoned was a real drag! The person on the other side didn't care, what if Leander had a life of his own. Now stuck in the small town of Rivenfield, his only enjoyment was the monster match app that lead him to his very own personal joke.
Ben being dragged to a nest by a Giwoggle was both hilarious and hot! Ben would've even thought twice except for only leander was a tree.. unaliver amongst other Unnamable.
Their meeting could not have been more fate involved in the most hilarious of ways. Talk about mistaken identity, all while an ungreatful Ben heaps on more of the most funniest slanderous acts.

Leander is a Giwoggle summoned to cut down Ben's tree but his summoner died when the tree fell and Leander was stuck there. Ben rightly is pissed and hates Leander and until he no longer can due to overwhelming attraction. I love how Ben pointedly and casually says to him "Hello, Murderer". I've never heard of a Giwoggle but I love this one- he's like a big overgrown puppy- innocent and naively pleasured. Ben is such a grump. It's funny to have him be the grump and the Monster the Sunshine. This was a delightful monster book that I totally enjoyed, especially the nesting. I received a copy of this book and this is my honest opinion.

Chaos is part of the multi author Monster Match series. Each book is a standalone story but why not enjoy the whole series. This book is about Leander a Giwoggle and Ben a human. This was such a fun book. I loved how opposite Ben and Leander are, Ben is all grumpy stubbornness while Leander is Sunshiny sweet. It takes a while for these two to work past their first encounter but when they do they are perfect for each other. Ki Brightly does an amazing job with the shared monster match world. It was fun to see Nox and the Portal Place dinner's owner Leon again. I truly loved this book. I would definitely recommend this book and series.

This was a fun quick story and a great addition to the Monster Match series. I've never heard of a Giwoggle before, but I loved Leander! He was such a fun character always trying to rile up Ben. Ben's a bit of a grouch but I loved his grumpiness against Leander's playfulness. While there's a bit of (maybe intentional) miscommunication at the beginning, things do end up clearing up and while it doesn't make Ben any less difficult, it does make him soften the tiniest amount. I loved the spicy scenes between these two along with the nest building. This whole series has been a lot of fun!! If you're a fan of monsters, then I think you'll definitely want to check this out!

Such a cute enemies to lovers

I really am loving the Monster Match series - I sincerely hope we get another look at this world in the future from all these authors. Ben and Leander were hilariously adorable with Ben being a total grump (in the truest sense of the word, he was a prickly little thing) and Leander being a bit of a pit stirrer but generally just happy and smiley. I liked that their enemies to lovers was light and funny; I like a darker, angstier enemies to lovers every now and then but sometimes I just want something fun and light hearted and this fit that to a tee. It’s sweet and funny and sexy - exactly what you need for a lovely pick me up!

Cute and fun

I’m not usually a fan of “I’m so pissed at you that I refuse to talk to you and get your side and everything you do and say just irritates me even more” but this author actually made it kinda fun. One MC is just grumpy and the other is so laid back and positive that he just enjoys the cute aspects of Ben’s reactions and doesn’t take it too personal. I really enjoyed this story and I’m pretty sure it’s the first time ever that I can honestly say I found their initial interactions mostly amusing. Leander is adorable and sweet, and Ben fits him so nicely! I highly recommend this book!

Interesting

Ben has had an ongoing feud with his neighbor Mr Johnson for quite a while now.
Mr Johnson just happens to be a witch who has summoned a Giwoggle who must do what is asked.
The Giwoggle is named Leander and he's a character.
When he shows up things go fubar, Mr Johnson ends up dead and now he's trapped as a result.
Ben is very grumpy and snarky because he's had terrible luck with dating and can't stand that everyone just accepts Leander's wild stories as fact.
Meanwhile, Leander's monster knows what he wants and it's Ben.
As they slowly get to know one another Ben finally realizes that Leander is his mate.
This was cute and full of hilarious hijinks.

Short enemies to lovers between a librarian, Ben, and our monster, Leander, who is a Giwoggle.

Though they started off on the wrong foot, they were very cute together once they got past the misunderstandings. Leander is so sweet while Ben sorta maintains a somewhat antagonistic attitude at times.

I wish we saw a bit more of Leander's best friend, Ajax. He seemed a bit mysterious with all his relationship problems, and then disappearing back to their hometown in Pennsylvania near the end, instead of staying in the mixed monster/human town with Leander and Ben. I felt like that small point wasn't resolved enough near the end, but maybe it leaves it open for him to get his own book?

Sweet and Spicy

This book was absolutely amazing! The spicy scenes were both spicy and sweet (a hard combo). This story made me smile, laugh, and swoon in equal measures.

Ben was snarky and prickly, but one of my favorite characters. Leander was so cheerful and sweet I think I got diabetes! And Ajax was a hot mess but deserves his own story (you'll see what I mean when you read it!)

I'm not usually a grumpy/sunshine trope fan, but this one was fabulous! I was almost a little sad that Ben became "nice" at the end of the book. Definitely pick this book up and give it a try, you won't be disappointed!
