Blake Sinclair and Reyna Gregor are childhood best friends, but Blake’s father is dead set against a union because of an insult in the past and the fact that the Gregor clan is neither strong nor wealthy. When his father the laird dies from poisoning, the council believes that Blake did the deed, so the lad flees the clan without being able to tell Reyna rather than being accused and sentenced to death.

Ten years later, Laird Oran Murray captures Finlay Gregor, Reyna’s twin, and holds him ransome for a betrothal between the clans. Thus, Reyna is on her way to the Murray keep in exchange for her brother’s release and is escorted by Brutus Murray, a distant cousin of the laird who also was formerly known as Blake Sinclair.

Oh, my stars, Juliana Wight has outdone herself with this sweeping tale of second-chance lovers. I absolutely adore Blake and Reyna and the strong cast of secondary characters, each with a tale of their own. Also, a Scottish Highlander romance would not be complete without a villain, and Oran Murray fits that bill in spades, and while not revealing a key element, suffice to say that there is another nefarious player in this game of life and death.

Come along with our couple as they find their way back to each other, out of the darkness and into the light. Set against the backdrop of highland beauty, this story is so exciting, filled with intense battle scenes, betrayals, and dastardly deeds, all in counterpoint to true love filled with steamy romance. What a treasure!

Loved this book!

Blake Sinclair was 14 years old and in love with Reyna Gregor from an enemy clan when he received the news that his father had been poisoned and Blake was accused of killing him. His only choice was to flee the clan leaving Reyna to wonder for 10 years why she never heard from him again. Reyna’s brother has been kidnapped by Laird Murray as leverage to get Reyna’s father to turn her over to marry laird Murray to get his only son back. He had no other option. That’s when things got even more complicated. For the warrior sent to bring Reyna to Laird Murray was none other than Blake who now goes by the name of Brutus Murray. I won’t spoil the rest. Needless to say, there are secrets still to unfold. Great book.

I was thrilled when the Laird received his comeuppance!! 😂😂 Being separated for so many years didn’t diminish the love they had for each other. Interesting story about family, trust and love. I liked the bit of mystery to it as it adds suspense and keeps your interest. The characters were well developed and added to the story along with the theme that ran through it. When you “feel” for the characters that’s a good sign of a good read.
