They Always Come Back

Rate this book
Avery Kline and her best friend, Paige Jensen, relocate their entire lives from their hometown of East Tawas, Michigan to Las Vegas, Nevada. Despite going through a tumultuous breakup, Avery is open to putting her heart back on the line when she meets the apartment’s pool security guard, Kyle Kingsley. Kyle is no stranger to female attention as all the residents seem to gravitate towards him, but he has a rule against dating girls who live at the complex. This disappoints Avery, but doesn’t discourage her from pursuing him anyway. She believes that once Kyle gets to know the real her, she will be able to break his rule and make him fall in love with her. Avery is relentless in her mission to capture Kyle’s heart, but his feelings against dating residents may be more of a warning than a rule. Their differing values cause friction among their friendship until one of them finally prevails. Will Avery be able to win Kyle over, or will his dark past leave them both heartbroken?

Just finished 'They Always Come Back' by Bailey Thomas, a contemporary romance that I gave 3.5 stars.

First off, let's talk about Avery's best friend, Page. She's an absolute gem! Her loyalty, humor, and fierce protectiveness make her a standout character. I loved every scene she was in.
But on the flip side, we have Kyle. Ugh, where do I start? His behavior and choices just rubbed me the wrong way throughout the story. Definitely not a fan. Overall, if you enjoy contemporary romance with a mix of lovable and infuriating characters, give this one a shot! Just be prepared for some strong feelings about certain characters.

Avery avery avery. WOW, she stressed me out lol. But what can we expect from a young woman who’s gone through some heartbreaking situations. I WAS NOT A FAN OF MR KYLE. Not only did this book have me in giggles but it also had me wanting to yell lol! Over all i’m happy i picked this book up and i really enjoyed reading it! I found that a lot of us women have a similar way of thinking when it comes to men. We just have to learn that we are ENOUGH. <3

Great Summer Romance

They Always Come Back : Bailey Thomas
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This is author Bailey Thomas’s self-published debut novel. In this novel, Avery and her best friend Paige move to Las Vegas for a fresh start. Avery is looking to get away from the town she grew up in because of her narcissistic ex boyfriend.

The girls move to the Exe Apartments in Vegas and are ready for a summer of pool parties and fun in the sun. On their first day at the pool, Avery meets Kyle Kingsley. He is the pool security guard and she is automatically smitten. Avery is relishing in the fact that the guy everyone wants has picked her for once. Little does she know this relationship isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.

If you like romance with a little bit of spice, then this is the book for you. Show some support for this debut author and get this book! It’s so worth it! For anyone that has KU it’s also available there as well.

This is a tough story to read, but unfortunately it isn't an uncommon one for many young women. Our FMC has moved to Vegas with her best friend, after living alone for the past few years with her parents abandoning her to travel when he dad won the lottery. One of the MMCs that she meets is a security guard at the pool of her new building. He is attractive and aloof, and never dates residents. Except he keeps pulling her under giving her just enough crumbs to keep her coming back even though he is toxic AF! When an MMC of her past, her roommates brother, comes back into the picture. Will she choose the safe option or try and fix the dangerous one?

I wish I would have read this when I was younger. Everyone needs a friend like Paige. I felt a little too old reading this, as much of it in my current life I couldn’t relate to. But younger me definitely could. Kyle is a grade A loser. He is infuriating. I feel like Avery needs a hug and to realize her worth. I would love a book 2 with Paige or Hannah and for us to see Avery’s growth.

Really wanted to love this one before I adore the author and her courage for writing a whole freaking book at such a young age, but it fell short for me.

I think this book is definitely for a younger crowd. At my ripe age of 33, reading about 21-22 years olds is really hard to relate to anymore 😂

Our FMC constantly made terrible decisions and had me screaming in my head “what are you doingggg???”. Kyle was trash and she defended him until the end???
But I do know it’s valid that we make dumb choices when we are young so maybe it’s more believable than I thought.

I do feel like Bailey has a talent and I hope she continues to write!

I have never enjoyed struggling with an MC as much as I did Avery. Were her choices questionable? Undoubtedly so. Did it make the book that much more entertaining? 100%. Imagine Devi from Never Have I Ever mixed with Bianca from the DUFF and Belly from TSITP and you’re in for one heck of a book. It was a fresh take on a romance and I would 100% recommend it.

I have chatted with Bailey on Instagram a bit and she is so nice and passionate about her debut novella, so I was super excited to read this!

First and foremost, this book includes discussions and instances of DV, so if you’re sensitive to books that describe these scenarios, I would suggest you pass on this one and come back to her second book!

I was particularly impressed with Bailey’s writing skills for her debut book. Independent authors usually don’t have anyone on their team but themselves, which means they write, edit, and market their books all on their own. You can definitely tell she took a lot of time and put in WORK for this book.

Some critiques for this book exclusively for the author to improve later and for readers thinking about picking this up:

1. The main character is very hard to root for. She compares herself to her friends constantly and doesn’t see red flags in men who give her attention. She continues to hang out with a man who attempts to SA her multiple times. She is just very insecure, and I wish we saw some confidence building throughout the novella.
2. There is a big cheating trope in this book. Again, Avery is a very insecure girl who seeks attention from men. Her and the guy weren’t technically together, but it just made me sad to see because of their history.
3. There is a lot of insta-love happening here, which is often the case for novellas. But, it felt like both of her romantic interests in this book showed up and they were instantly in love. A little more pining and dialogue would have helped a ton here!

Overall, I think if there wasn’t a cheating trope and if the book wasn’t a novella, I think I would have loved this book! It just needed some more dialogue and time to let the characters develop. I look forward to Bailey Thomas’ next book, I can’t wait to watch her grow as a writer!

With her ex tainting her home town that her parents already left her in, Avery is glad to be living it up in Vegas. She is used to living in her best friend Paige’s shadow, and she has enjoyed it; thrives there even. Until the day they attend their first apartment pool party, and she meets the gorgeous pool security guard, Kyle. To Avery’s surprise, not only does Kyle notice her, he seeks her out day after day amongst the crowd of woman! But… Kyle has a solid rule against dating residents of the apartments…but Avery will change his mind, won’t she?

I don’t know where to start, this book had me feeling all the feels. I was laughing out loud (woke my toddler up…oops), I was getting so frustrated with Avery (come on girl!?) and then I felt like crying for her for so many reasons. As for Paige, I wasn’t sure if I liked her to start with, but she really grew on me and became a favourite! Kyle … is the most handsome and funny person… but also kind of an ass, in the best way.

The writing in this rom-com was catchier and up to par with some of the well known authors out there. The plot was all round amazing!

A perfect read with love, laughter and everything inbetween. I hope this gets the recognition it deserves out here 💞

I am super grateful that the author reached out and encouraged me to read her book. As a first book from this indie author, the story’s premise was a good idea but I would say this book is more of a coming of age or cautionary tale book than a romance.

Things I would’ve liked to see:
-Timeline spread out further. The FMC’s intense emotions felt too soon to occur. It seemed like she fell in and out of love or obsession over the course of days.
-Less major plot points and deeper dives into a few key points. There was parental death, parental abandonment, lottery winnings, anger issues, toxic previous ex, abuse and DV, attempted SA, obsession, and possible murder. I think more time was spent on Avery’s internal dialogue instead of building up why she was the way she was.
-Avery learning from previous mistakes. Overall, I think both Avery and Kyle were just way too toxic together and separately. I found myself genuinely upset with the FMC while also rooting for her to grow up along the way. I had to keep in mind that she was still very young and had a lot to learn.

I will say I think Bailey Thomas has a great writing style and do hope she continues to write! I liked the overall premise but ultimately felt like the FMC had a perspective that I didn’t mesh with.

I would say no spice.
(There is attempted but not it was more like assault than consensual so just be aware of that going into this book)

I didn’t hate this book and for her first book ever I did like it. There were some chemistry that just felt like it was missing between the main characters. I did love Paige and I think we all need a Paige in our lives.

I was not a fan of Avery she made me want to reach in the book and smack some sense into her, because while yes she was young, 22, and was dealt a shitty hand with parents she got attached to Kyle 🤢 (hate him) very quickly. I’m not a fan of insta anything so that was hard for me personally to read. She also made a lot of decisions she knew were bad, but did them anyway. She seemed very immature.

I see a ton of potential in this author, Bailey Thomas as she continues to grow as a writer herself I believe she could be very successful 🫶

———— spoiler ———-

The one thing I HATED about her was that she told Kyle when Graham was gone… she had admitted to not wanting to be with him but then goes behinds Grahams back and goes to Kyles. FFS girl NO.

“ I want to be the Graham to your S’mores “

Review : In this novel Avery and her BestFriend Paige move from Michigan to Nevada for a fresh start after Avery ex-boyfriend broke her heart and became a narcissist.

The BestFriends find a building complex they fall in love with due to their weekend pool parties . Paige beautiful confident can’t wait to get all the attention from the guys , Avery doesn’t mind just being her shadow. On their first pool party Avery meets Kyle who’s the pool security guard who she finds super attractive.

Never in a million years did Avery think Kyle would become one of her worst nightmares.

Paige was my favorite character in the story she was the BestFriend any girl would love to have and should have. She was loving , caring , overprotective and sincere with Avery .

Hannah who became Avery and Paige BestFriend was super sweet .

Graham who was Paige older brother and an amazing Chef came to Vegas to change Avery’s life for the better .

I would love a second part to this book , if you love a quick romance novel this will be one for you to read . Bailey did an amazing job writing this story . The reason why I rated it a 3.5 it’s because I was so furious with Avery defending Kyle of all his wrong doings .

This book had me so irrationally angry at the FMC, I had to see her through, but man-I wanted to throw my kindle. I spent a large portion of the book sympathizing with her and her insecurities and abandonment issues, and constantly blamed those issues on her behaviors. But eventually I was like OK GIRL, JUST STOP. She constantly took the dumbest chances and refused to see what a terrible person her crush was. She left a narcissistic ex and moved across the country but refused to acknowledge the same tendencies in Kyle. He was the worst kind of human…and sadly I saw my own stupid self in my 20s which is probably why this one hit so hard. She refused to truly give the “nice guy” a real time of day in hopes of changing the bad one. Fortunately she was blessed with the best best friend and Paige was the real MVP here. She kept it real and honest, even if what she said wasn’t what you wanted to hear. Hands down my favorite character of the story.

@authorbaileythomas is a new Indie author and absolutely worth the read. Check out her work on KU and give her a follow to show some love ❤️

OH MY GOSH. Avery had me STRESSED to the max during this. Every single time things were starting to go well, she would essentially self sabotage.

It was so hard seeing her go through all of that she did because I was the exact way when I was in high school. You get so caught up in the idea of someone that you completely lose yourself & allow them to walk all over you.

You can have it fully figured out that someone is bad for you, but you can’t help but gravitate towards them.

The audacity that Kyle possessed was actually insane. The things he said & did had my jaw on the FLOOR.

The last 10%?!?! I was SHOOK.

So glad Avery was able to come out a better & happier person. She deserved to be happy.

Also shout out to Paige!! She’s the best friend that everyone deserves. I loved her so much

A quick, entertaining read! But also super frustrating? BUT! I will say— thank you thank you for allowing the good guy to get the girl 🙌🏻🙌🏻

Avery wasn’t shown any sense of security throughout her life as her parents abruptly left to travel the world after winning the lottery. I can see how this led to her fascination with toxic relationships (Ethan and Kyle). As she kept repeatedly making excuses for kyle, I found it so frustrating! But also understood why?

Her friends were so good to her! Paige and Hannah truly showed her unconditional love here. I loved their trio.

Grahammmm 🫶🏻 Loved him to pieces! So glad he was the one in the end!

All in all, a cute read! Once you get through and understand the challenges Avery is facing when dealing with Kyle (booooo 👎🏻)

Avery, oh Avery. Girl you got on my nerves trying to keep after Kyle who clearly only wants one thing from you and nothing more. Can you not get the hint?!?! Even your friend sees his true colors. Ugh, this book got on my nerves. I was literally yelling at the FMC. I guess she didn’t listen to me because she kept after the guy that didn’t want anything more than just a fling. She even sparked up a relationship with her friend’s brother that she grew up with. They both had a crush on each other growing up and now they have their chance, but this girl Avery can’t get over stupid Kyle and his toxicity.
I wanted to throw this book across the room when I was done with it. …I’m curious, is there a book two??? I need to know more.

Stars:⭐️⭐️

Overall, I wasn’t a huge fan of the story. I felt the FMC was childish and trying to play both sides. She met a great guy and then still ran back to the guy who treated her like dirt. I was rolling my eyes at some of the comments Avery was saying and doing. She wasn’t 100% loyal to her best friend and would pick a guy over her. There were so many red flags in the guy, I couldn’t.

Tbh, I don’t even feel she deserved Graham. She was with him directly for 4 days and as soon as he left, she ran back to Kyle.

I didn’t mind the story line but a 2 for this one is all I can give. There was SA and DV mentioned throughout the book and had a cheating trope.

Some people might like it, but overall, I didn’t. If there was a second book after this, I don’t know if i’d read it.

I wish all the best to the author and I hope she builds and flourishes into her journey as an author.

Wow! This book is nothing like I have ever read before. They Always Come Back had me screaming at Avery, the main character, at not making the same mistakes over and over again, but also rooting for her to have a happy ending. I loved Paige who was so protective of Avery. And Graham, he was absolutely the best! I wish more time could have been focused on him. I truly hope this book will help women to not make the same mistakes as Avery. Truly a well-written novel by Bailey Thomas! I hope others will take the time to read this book and have the same reaction of not wanting to put it down as I did.

smashed through within 5 hrs, this book was recommended to me so thought fuck it let’s go.
This book got me in some many different feels, I was so all giddy at Kyle then wanted to punch him in the face and it was like avery couldn’t see what an arse he was... Then sweet best friends brother came along as I became all about Graham and becoming his chocolate to his smore 😍

Avery girl I’m glad you finally came to your senses…. Now I need to know wtf happens and is the Kyle keeps his promise to come back! 👀
also are we getting Hannah’s story? a little drop in the epilogue that she gets engaged I need more 👀😂

Good Lord what even was this book… The main character, Avery, was an absolute clown and Kyle was a toxic, red flag all around. Graham, Hannah, and Paige were all so wonderful and honestly, Avery didn’t deserve Graham. However, I do recognize that she was a girl traumatized and feeling bad for herself and that we all tend to act that way once in a while. I’m glad she realized she deserved better and found the right guy, and the book did have a good message. However, it was too chaotic and bad and red flag for me.

I hate Kyle. I’ll throw hands with him right now. Paige is my favorite and Avery seems so delulu and gullible I started not to like her a bit as well. Graham is the loml idc he can make me a filet mignon any day 😌(I think he deserves better)
Page 125 had me giggling and kicking my feet 🥰

Overall this book kept me entertained and I couldn’t put it down so I’d say for this being Baileys first book it’s pretty good! I didn’t see any typos and everything was well paced. I enjoyed it! I look forward to reading more of her books in the future! 😊

2.5 ⭐️ for me! I actually enjoyed the writing style and would probably read another book by her! I also didn’t mind the plot and was generally engaged. For me, there was simply too much happening too quickly to fully buy into the story. I felt like the characters didn’t have enough depth and I found Avery too toxic to relate to. I appreciated that the book was on the shorter side, but think that taking out maybe 2-3 events or making the book longer in order to build more basis and foundation would have went a long way!

Fun story!

Avery is a young woman, who makes a scary decision to move to Vegas after a bad breakup... And rebounds with the wrong guy. We've all been there! I definitely felt for Avery, her wish to see the best in people, even when they continuously let her down.
This was a fun, emotionally engaging story, and I'm glad she got her HEA with the right s'more!

Avery Avery, glad you have Paige as a friend in your life.
I may be too old for the book but nonetheless i enjoyed it. Who can blame Avery tho, she just takes whatever she thinks she deserves, with what had happened to her, i would understand. Young and lost, lucky tho, she has friends! and i love how she has someone.

love this book! it was a great read! <3
